Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.INTRODUCTIONThis Portions of this test method

    3、 can be used by any properly equipped laboratory without outsideassistance. However, the are written for use by laboratories that make use of ASTM Test MonitoringCenter (TMC)3 provides reference oils and assessment of the test results obtained on those oils by thelaboratory services (see Annex A1).

    4、By this means, the laboratory will know whether their use of thistest method gives results statistically similar to those obtained by other laboratories. Furthermore,various agencies require that a laboratory utilize the TMC services in seeking qualification of oilsagainst specifications. For exampl

    5、e, the American Petroleum Institute (API) imposes such arequirement, in connection with several U.S. Army engine lubricating oil specifications. Accordingly,this test method is written for use by laboratories that utilize the TMC services. Laboratories thatchoose not to use those services may simply

    6、 ignore those portions of this test method that refer to theTMC. This test method may be modified by means of Information Letters issued by the TMC. Inaddition, the TMC may issue supplementary memoranda related to this test method. Users of this testmethod shall contact theTMC,Attention:Administrato

    7、r, to obtain the most recent of these informationletters.The TMC provides reference oils, and engineering and statistical services to laboratories that desireto produce test results that are statistically similar to those produced by laboratories previouslycalibrated by the TMC.In general, the Test

    8、Purchaser decides if a calibrated test stand is to be used. Organizations such astheAmerican Chemistry Council require that a laboratory utilize the TMC services as part of their testregistration process. In addition, the American Petroleum Institute and the Gear Lubricant ReviewCommittee of the Lub

    9、ricant Review Institute (SAE International) require that a laboratory use theTMC services in seeking qualification of oils against their specifications.The advantage of using the TMC services to calibrate test stands is that the test laboratory (andhence the Test Purchaser) has an assurance that the

    10、 test stand was operating at the proper level of testseverity. It should also be borne in mind that results obtained in a non-calibrated test stand may notbe the same as those obtained in a test stand participating in the ASTM TMC services process.Laboratories that choose not to use the TMC services

    11、 may simply disregard these portions.1.
