Scope1.1 The specification covers the physical properties ofself-supported s

    3、pray applied cellulosic fibers intended for useas thermal insulation or an acoustical absorbent material, orboth.1.2 This specification covers chemically treated cellulosicmaterials intended for pneumatic applications where tempera-tures do not exceed 82.2C (180F) and where temperatureswill routinel

    4、y remain below 65.6C (150F).1.2.1 Type IMaterial applied with liquid adhesive andsuitable for either exposed or enclosed applications.1.2.2 Type IIMaterials containing a dry adhesive that isactivated by water during installation and intended only forenclosed or covered applications.1.3 This is a mat

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions in Terminology C 168 shallapply in this specification.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 constant massno change in successive weighings inexcess of 0.5 % of specimen mass taken

Specimen should not be always increasingin weight or decreasing in weight.3.2.2 curedthe state of the finished product after it hasachieved constant mass.3.2.3 curingthe process in which the liquid vehicle isremoved. Normally achieved in ambient building c

    12、onditionswith forced air convection to hasten the evaporation process.3.2.4 prepared samplesamples prepared in accordancewith Section 5 and cured to constant mass prior to conductingthe specific tests. The prepared samples, after reaching constantmass, as defined in 3.2.1, shall have a density withi

    16、2959, United States.3.2.6 specimendefinition of specimen as used in thisspecification shall be the same as that for prepared sample in3.2.4.3.2.7 sprayed fiberchemically treated cellulosic materials,that are pneumatically conveyed and mixed with water oradhesive, or both, at the spray nozzle and bec

    17、ome self-supporting when cured.4. Physical Properties4.1 Materials and Manufacture:4.1.1 The basic material shall consist of virgin or recycledwood based cellulosic fiber.4.1.2 Suitable chemicals shall be introduced to provideflame resistance, improved processing, adhesive/cohesiveproperties, and ha

    18、ndling and application characteristics.4.1.3 The basic material shall be processed into a formsuitable for installation by pneumatic conveying equipmentand the simultaneous mixing with liquid at the spray nozzle.4.2 DensityType I and Type II samples shall be within610 % of the manufacturers stated v

    19、alues when tested inaccordance with 6.1.4.3 Thermal ResistanceType I and Type II samples shallbe within 610 % of the manufacturers stated values whentested in accordance with 6.4.4.4 Surface Burning CharacteristicsType I and Type IIsamples shall have a maximum flame spread rating of 25 anda maximum

    20、smoke developed rating of 50 when tested inaccordance with 6.2.4.5 Adhesive/Cohesive Strength:4.5.1 Type IThe applied material shall have a minimumadhesive/cohesive bond strength per unit area of five times theweight of the material under the test plate when tested inaccordance with Test Method E 73

    21、6.4.5.2 Type IIThe applied product shall have a minimumadhesive/cohesive bond strength per unit area of two times theweight of the material under the test plate when tested inaccordance with Test Method E 736.4.6 Smoldering CombustionType I and Type II products,when tested in accordance with 6.5, sh

    22、all have a weight loss nogreater than 15 % of the specimen weight and shall exhibit noevidence of flaming.4.7 Fungi ResistanceType I and Type II products, whentested in accordance with 6.6, shall not promote more fungalgrowth than the control in at least two of the three replicatespecimens. (See Spe

    23、cification C 739, 1986 edition, paragraph5.4.)4.8 CorrosionType I and Type II products, when tested inaccordance with 6.7, shall demonstrate no perforations in the3-mil metal coupons when observed in close proximity to a40-W appliance light bulb. Notches extending less than 3 mminto the coupon edge

    24、can be ignored.4.9 Moisture Vapor AbsorptionMoisture absorption ofType I and Type II products shall be no more than 15 % whentested in accordance with 6.8.4.10 OdorType I and Type II, applied products shall haveno strong, objectionable odor when tested in accordance with6.9.4.11 Flame Resistance Per

    25、manency:34.11.1 The importance of an insulations product to main-tain its fire retardant characteristics is recognized. A task groupis currently studying methods to ascertain if there is a long termdeterioration of fire performance characteristics of celluloseinsulation. Should the need for a perman

    26、ency test method bedetermined by this task group and a test method developed andfinalized, it will become a part of this specification.4.12 Additional Characteristics for Type I Product:4.12.1 Substrate DeflectionType I applied product shallnot spall, crack, or delaminate when tested in accordance w

    27、ith6.11 of this specification.4.12.2 Air ErosionReport the results of the air erosion testdescribed in 6.10 of this specification for Type 1 appliedproduct.5. Specimen Preparation5.1 Prepare specimens using manufacturers recommendedequipment and procedures and at manufacturers maximumrecommended thi

    28、ckness. Cure specimens to constant mass at23 6 3C (73.4 6 5.4F) and 50 6 5 % relative humidityunless otherwise specified in a specific test procedure. Allspecimens shall be within 610 % of the manufacturersrecommended installation density.6. Test Methods6.1 DensityDensity of each sample shall be det

    29、ermined inaccordance with Test Methods E 605.6.2 Surface Burning CharacteristicsThe surface burningcharacteristics of Type I and Type II products shall be deter-mined in accordance with Test Method E84.6.3 Adhesive/Cohesive StrengthThe adhesive/cohesivestrength of the spray applied fiber insulation

    30、shall be deter-mined in accordance with Test Method E 736.6.4 Thermal ResistanceSamples shall be prepared as inSection 5. The thermal resistance of the spray applied cellulo-sic fiber insulation shall be as determined by the average offour specimens tested in accordance with Test Methods C 177,C 518

    31、, or C 1363. The referee method shall be Test MethodC 177. When Test Method C 518 or C 177 is used, the surfaceirregularities will be trimmed to provide uniform thickness.When the hot box method is used, the test will be on theinsulation component only or alternatively; if tested as asystem, the res

    32、ults reported shall include all components ofsystem evaluated.6.5 Smoldering Combustion:6.5.1 ScopeThis test method determines the resistance ofthe insulation to smolder, under specific laboratory conditions.6.5.2 Significance and UseInsulation materials thatrreadily smolder could have an adverse ef

    33、fect on the surround-ing structure in the event of exposure to fire or heat sources.6.5.3 Apparatus for Smoldering Combustion Test:6.5.3.1 Specimen HolderThe specimen holder shall be anopen-top 203 6 2mm(86 0.08 in.) square box, 100 6 2mm(4 6 0.08 in.) in height, fabricated from 18 United Statesstan

    35、rest upon a pad of unfaced glass fiberboardhaving dimensions equal to the bottom of the specimen holder.The glass fiberboard shall be approximately 25 mm (0.98 in.)thick, with a density of 40 6 4 kg/m (2.5 6 0.25 lb/ft).6.5.3.3 Laboratory Scales, capable of weighing the speci-men holder and sample w

    36、ith an accuracy of 6 0.2 g (0.007 oz).6.5.3.4 Drill Press, with vertical movement capabilities inexcess of 114 mm (4.5 in.) and fitted with an 8 mm (0.315 in.)diameter drill bit with a minimum usable length of 102 mm(4.0 in.) when chucked.6.5.3.5 Ignition SourceThe ignition source shall be acigarett

    37、e without filter tip made from natural tobacco, 85 6 2mm (3.35 6 0.08 in.) long with a tobacco packing density of0.27 6 0.0020 g/cm and a total weight of 1.1 6 0.2 g (0.04 oz).6.5.4 SamplingThree specimens per sample shall betested.6.5.5 ConditioningSample shall be allowed to dry at 23 63C (73.4 6 5

    38、.4F) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity untilconstant mass is achieved.6.5.6 Test ChamberA draft-protected chamber or hoodwith a suitable exhaust system to remove products of combus-tion. Air velocities shall not exceed 0.5 m/s (1.64 ft/s) in thevicinity of the specimen surface when measured by a hot wi

    39、reanemometer.6.5.7 Procedure:6.5.7.1 Determine tare weight of specimen holder andfiberglass shim (after drilling) to nearest 0.2 g and recordweight (see 6.5.7.4).6.5.7.2 After conditioning in accordance with 6.5.5, cutspecimens 203 by 203 6 2mm(8by86 0.08 in.) square tofit snugly inside the specimen

    40、 holder.6.5.7.3 After cutting specimen to the correct size, drill ahole through the thickness of the specimen at the center. Use adrill press and steel drill bit described in 6.5.3.4.6.5.7.4 Insert drilled specimen level with top edge ofspecimen holder. If required, provide a shim of unfacedfibergla

    41、ss (approximate 0.5 lb/ft3) under the specimen that iscut to fit holder and center drilled to align with specimen.Carefully cut excess material extending above the top edge ofthe specimen holder. A reciprocating electric knife or saw hasbeen found suitable. Take care that the center drilled hole isf

    42、ree of debris and if the shim pad is used, that the hole isaligned through specimen and pad.6.5.7.5 Weigh specimen and specimen holder, subtractweight of empty specimen holder and fiberglass shim if used.Record this as the starting weight of the specimen, (W1).Calculate the density of the specimen t

    43、o the nearest 0.1 lb/ft3;density shall be within 6 10 % of the manufacturers designdensity.6.5.7.6 With the specimen in the specimen holder andplaced on the insulation pad, insert well-lighted cigarette,burned no more than 8 mm (0.32 in.), into the formed cavity,with the lighted end upward and flush

    44、 with the specimensurface. Place the specimen in the test chamber and allowburning of the cigarette to proceed undisturbed for at least 1 h,after which, allow specimen to remain until there is noevidence of heat or smoke and the bottom of the specimenholder is cool to the touch.6.5.7.7 After the spe

    45、cimen has cooled to less than 25C(77F), weigh to the nearest 0.2 g and subtract the tare weightdetermined in 6.5.7.1 to arrive at the final net weight, ( W2).6.5.8 CalculationCalculate percent weight loss as fol-lows:WL 5 $W12 W2%/W1! 3 100 (1)where:WL = weight loss, %,W1= weight of specimen before

    46、test, g (oz), andW2= final weight of specimen at completion of test, g(oz).6.5.9 RetestIf all three specimens pass, the insulationpasses. If more than one fails, the insulation is rejected. If anyone of the three specimens should fail, conduct a retestconsisting of three additional specimens. Should

    47、 one of thethree retest specimens fail, the insulation is rejected.6.5.10 Results of test: Pass/Fail.6.5.11 Precision and Bias The precision and bias of this testmethod has not been determined.6.6 Fungi Resistance:6.6.1 ScopeThis test method covers the determination ofthe amount of resistance to the

    48、 growth of fungi present inself-supported spray applied cellulosic thermal/acoustical in-sulation.6.6.2 Significance and UseIt is necessary to ensure thatspray applied cellulosic insulation materials support no greatergrowth of fungi than the surrounding materials of the structurebeing insulated. No

    49、rmally the structural materials in questionwill be wood. Excessive growth of fungi on the insulationcould result in loss of efficiency of the insulation, damage tothe structure, and possible health hazards to the occupants ofthe insulated structure. The purpose of this test method is toprovide an evaluation of the potential for fungi growth presentin the insulation material relative to common wood used forframing.6.6.3 ApparatusThe apparatus required to conduct thistest method consists of chambers or cabinets together withauxili
