    2、 standards, and handbooks. The following specifications, standards, and handbooks form a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. Unless otherwise specified, the issues of the documents are those listed in the issue of the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards

    3、 (DoDISS) cited in the solicitation. Unless otherwise specified, the issues of documents not listed in the DoDISS are the issues of the documents cited in the solicitation (see 6.2). STANDARDS DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE MIL-STD-810 - Environmental Test Methods and Engineering Guidelines. MIL-PRF-32023 -

    4、Adapter Kit - Gravity Feed, for 5-Gallon Military Fuel Can. (Unless otherwise indicated, copies of the above standard are available from the Standardization Document Order Desk, 700 Robbins Avenue, Building 4D, Philadelphia, PA 19111-5094). 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First Article. When specified (see 6.2)

    5、, a sample shall be subjected to a first article inspection in accordance with 4.1. 3.2 Conformance. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to conformance inspection in accordance with 4.1. 3.3 Operating Requirements. Each heater shall satisfy the following user-oriented requirements:

    6、 3.3.1 Operation. The heaters shall operate safely with all specified fuels, listed in Table I, and under all specified conditions herein with no electrical power. 3.3.2 Burner. There shall be no exposure of flame during any mode of operation. There shall be no pool of raw liquid fuel in the burner

    7、area during operation or in the case of accidental flame loss. 3.3.3 Ignition. The heaters shall not require any electrical power for ignition. Ignition shall be accomplished safely in ten minutes or less with the use of a match. 3.3.4 Monitoring. The heaters shall incorporate a sight glass or other

    8、 means for viewing the entire combustion flame during operation. The heaters shall incorporate a captive cover, which can be removed and replaced over the viewing area for black out conditions with out the use of tools.     9、ense from IHS-,-,-MIL-PRF-32111 33.3.5 Liquid Fuel . The heater shall be safely operated with all of the fuels listed in Table I. TABLE I. The heaters shall have a fuel control that maintains a constant flow rate to the burner from a gravity feed fuel supply. The fuel control shall have a metering knob to control flow rate incrementally and shall have a m

    11、inimum of seven settings. The fuel control shall have a fuel type selector knob (3 positions maximum), if necessary, which allows the operator to accommodate for varying ambient temperatures and for the different fuels listed in Table I. The fuel control shall be adjustable during operation while we

    12、aring cold weather gloves NSN 8415-00-227-1220. The fuel control shall provide sufficient fuel flow to achieve the full range of required heat outputs corresponding to Table II. The fuel control shall be permanently labeled to identify settings and corresponding fuel types. The fuel control shall co

    13、ntrol fuel flow to the burner to eliminate any possibility of an unsafe over fire condition when operated at the proper settings for the prevailing ambient temperatures and fuel types. The fuel control shall control the firing rate in conjunction with the heaters, such that, smoke levels do not exce

    14、ed a #4 on the Bacharach smoke scale, for over 40% of the full range of settings. The fuel control shall have a heat shield if necessary to prevent excessive warming of the valve (above 110F for JP8 with and ambient of 40F) and consequent changes in the flow rate to the heater. 3.3.7 Automatic Fuel

    15、Shut Off Capability. Fuel flow shall stop entering the combustion area during accidental flame loss. Fuel flow shall also not enter the combustion area if a full inverted fuel can is connected to the heater with the fuel control in the on position. At no time shall there be a puddle of raw fuel insi

    16、de the burner area. 3.3.8 On/Off Switch. A single on/off switch shall be located on the fuel control and shall start and stop fuel flow to the burner. 3.3.9 Fuel Filter. The filter shall eliminate foreign particles from obstructing fuel flow. The filter shall be located within a protected area on th

    17、e fuel control and shall be located to allow for 15-minute removal, cleaning and installation of filter element using only common hand tools. The filter element shall not rust. 3.3.10 Solid Fuel Operation. 3.3.10.1 Type II Heater. Type II heater shall contain all components and accessories required for combustion

    19、 of solid fuel (wood or coal). All required components shall be packable inside the heater body. Firing rate shall be controllable through manual regulation of combustion air. The solid fuel burning area shall allow for placement of at least .35 cubic feet of solid fuel with an opening large enough

    20、to accumulate a 16 long by 4 diameter pieces of wood. The Type II heater shall be capable of conversion to liquid fuel operation with the addition of a liquid fuel burner kit. 3.3.10.2 Type I Heater. Type I heater shall be capable of conversion to solid fuel operation with the addition of a solid fu

    21、el burning kit. The requirement for a solid fuel burning kit will be called out in acquisition documents (see 6.2) 3.3.11 Combustion Efficiency. Type I heater shall have a combustion efficiency greater than 50% when operated at 60,000 BTU/hr or higher, with liquid fuels. 3.3.12 Smoke Readings. The s

    22、moke reading of the heaters shall not be greater than a # 4 on the Bacharach smoke scale when operated between the ranges listed in Table II. 3.3.13 Heat Output. The heaters shall provide the minimum BTU ranges listed in Table II 5 KBTU. TABLE II Heat Output Requirements Ambient Temp (F) Fuel Type I

The exhaust pipe shall be nestable for storage inside the heater body. Each section shall be permanently numbered sequentially corresponding to order of assembly. The diam

    24、eter of the exhaust pipe shall be sized to fit through the 5 inch diameter stove pipe openings of the Military tents. The exhaust pipe shall be between 150 inches and 170 inches when assembled on the heater. The exhaust pipe seams shall be permanent and shall not require operator assembly. All heate

    25、r exhaust gases shall be discharged vertically to exit through the stovepipe opening on the tents.     26、nd to prevent down drafts. The exhaust pipe and stack cap exterior shall have a surface finish that reduces reflective glare. 3.3.15 Tilt During Operation. The heater shall operate at 5 degrees tilted in any direction without causing safety hazard or performance degradation. 3.3.16 Fuel Lines And Fi

    27、ttings. A gravity feed fuel supply line (MIL-PRF-32023) shall be supplied and shall be easily connected and disconnected to the heater fuel control and gravity feed adapter on the 5-gallon fuel can. The gravity feed adapter uses a Parker Hannifin, Inc. female hose coupler part number B20-5BP-690, wh

    28、ich the fuel supply line shall mate with. The gravity feed fuel supply line shall not leak fuel when disconnected from the fuel control while connected to a full inverted 5-gallon fuel can. The short fuel line from the fuel control to the burner shall be easily connected for operation with cold weat

    29、her gloves. Fuel lines, fittings, and controls shall be sufficiently isolated from the combustion chamber and high heat areas to prevent being adversely affected from heat. Fittings shall not leak and shall be compatible with all fuels and environmental extremes specified herein. 3.3.17 Gaskets And

    30、Seals. All gaskets, seals, etc., shall be suitable for use with specified fuels under all climatic categories specified herein. 3.3.18 Accessories. The Type I heater shall include the following accessories as required to meet this performance specification: Exhaust pipe assembly, fuel control, plast

    31、ic gravity feed adapter kit (NSN 4520-01-466-0415), a fuel can stand which supports two full plastic fuel cans (NSN 4520-01-465-4430) in an inverted position with the outlet a minimum of 25 inches from the ground, gravity fuel feed hose with inline valve for priming, y-adapter, overflow hose, stack

    32、cap, solid fuel burning components, manual, priming cup (secured to fuel hose), burner cleaning device, fuel spill containment mats for heater and fuel cans, and heater stand to elevate heater off the tent floor. All accessories shall be storable inside the heater body. All accessories for Type I he

    33、ater, except for the solid fuel burning components, shall be required unless otherwise specified in the acquisition documents (see 6.2). The Type II heater shall contain all accessory components required to burn solid fuel. 3.3.18.1 Fuel Spill Containment Mats. Fuel spill containment mats shall be p

    34、rovided for placement under the fuel cans and heater. The fuel spill containment mats shall be fuel resistant, non-flammable, and non-wicking/non-absorbent. They should be functional in a continuous temperature range of -65F to 500F and should be foldable for storage inside the heater body for trans

    35、port. The fuel mat under the heater shall be a minimum of 21.5 by 27.5 and shall be able to retain approximately 0.25 liters of fuel. The fuel mat under the tri-pod fuel can stand shall be at least 31 by 35 by 5 and shall contain 4 liters of fuel. 3.3.19 Heater Body Surface. The heater body outside

    36、surface shall inhibit rust and flaking either through material selection or surface treatment with a high temperature paint or coating.     37、ions (feet or base stand) to allow for operation on a snow packed surface without degrading performance or safety. Both heaters shall have provisions to reduce sliding when operated on a packed snow or ice surface and shall have provisions to prevent tearing of fabric tent floors. Any surface on the

    38、 heater bottom, which comes in contact with the tent floor, shall not get hotter than 150 F during operation. 3.3.21 Safety. The heater and its components shall perform in all modes of operation in a safe manner. All equipment shall include fail-safe features for safety of personnel during installat

    39、ion, operation, maintenance, and repair activities. The heater configuration shall eliminate the possibility of improper assembly of components (i.e. burner assembly, fuel control) which may lead to a hazardous condition. 3.3.21.1 Breathable Air. Products of combustion shall remain separated from th

    40、e breathable heated air. Heated air inside the tent shall be within the American Conference of Governmental Hygienists (ACGIH) 8-hour Threshold Limit Values-Time Weighted Average (TLV-TWA) for carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbon based combustible gases. 3.3.21.2 Sharp Edges. Non-functio

    41、nal sharp edges and projections shall be eliminated. 3.3.21.3 Noise. Noise levels, as measured from 3 feet from the heater, shall not exceed 60 dB. 3.4 Support Or Ownership Requirements. 3.4.1 Weight. The weight of the heater without accessories shall be less than 50 pounds for the Type I any leakag

    42、e of fuel from the fuel line shall constitute a failure. Determine that the gravity feed fuel supply line mates with the standard gravity feed adapter during severe cold weather manipulation per 4.6.4 and the fuel source is the standard five gallon fuel can during durability testing per 4.4.3. Inabi

    43、lity of the fuel line to mate with the standard gravity feed adapter and the heater to operate with the standard 5-gallon fuel can as a fuel source shall constitute a failure. Inability to connect the short fuel line from the fuel control to the burner with cold weather gloves shall constitute a fai

    44、lure. Inability of any fuel lines or fittings to provide positive connections with no fuel leakage during any environmental condition specified herein shall constitute a failure. 4.3.17 Gaskets and Seals. Visually inspect gaskets and seals during operation testing per 4.3 every 100 hours and at the

    45、end of testing. Any signs of degradation or lose of performance shall constitute a test failure. 4.3.18 Accessories. Inspect the Type I heater for the exhaust pipe and cap, (plastic) gravity feed adapter kit, fuel feed hose, Y- adapter, burner cleaning device, overflow hose, fuel control, technical

    46、manual, fuel can stand, fuel spill containment mats for heater and fuel cans, and heater stand. Inspect fuel can stand for ability to support a full 5-gallon military plastic fuel can in an inverted position with the outlet a minimum of 25 inches from the ground. Absence of any of the accessory item

    47、s required for liquid fuel operation shall constitute a failure unless otherwise specified in the acquisition documents (see 6.2). Inability to store all required accessories for solid and liquid fuel operation inside the heater body shall constitute a failure. 4.3.18.1 Fuel Spill Containment Mats. Verify that the fuel mats are the required size and retain the required amount of fuel.

    49、Inspect the fuel spill containment mats for fuel resistance, non-flammability, and non-wicking/non-absorbency. Pour 0.25 liters of fuel onto mat and allow to remain on mat for 4 to 5 hours. Verify the fuel is contained on the mat and not absorbed into the mat material. Obtain an 8 by 8 paper towel. Pour a fuel-measuring cup of fuel on mat. Wipe cup with paper towel. Place paper towel into fuel on mat and light. Verify that the fire consumes onl
