    2、s approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This document covers two types of panel mounted, mechanical, refrigeration units having a capacity of 10,000 British thermal units (Btu) per hour and used with the prefabricated, panel type refiigera

    3、tor (see 6.1). 1.2 Classification. The refrigeration units shall be of the following types as specified (see 6.2): Type I - Diesel Engine Driven Type II - Electric Motor Driven 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General. The documents listed in this section are specified in sections 3 and 4 of this specifi

This section does not include documents cited in other sections of this specification or Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which may be of use in improving this document should be addressed to: Commander, U.S. Army Natick Research, Development

In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in t

    15、his document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained, 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.1.1. 3.2 Design. materials. and manufacturing pro

    16、cesses. Unless otherwise specified, the design, materials, and manufacturing process selection is the prerogative of the contractor as long as all articles submitted to the Government fully meet the requirements specified. 3.3 ODerating reauirements. Refrigeration units shall satis the following fun

    17、ctional, operational and performance requirements. 3.3.1 $:hour oDeration. Refrigeration units shall operate properly with suction and discharge pressures safely controlled. 3.3.2 72-hour operation. Refrigeration units shall operate properly and maintain noted conditions at thermostat settings of OF

Refrigeration units shall have minimum net capacities of 10,000 BtLJ/hr at a thermostat setting of OF and

    19、 18,000 Btu/hr at a thermostat setting of 359. 3.3.4 Defrost svstem. Refrigeration units shall have a defrost cycle automatically initiated by a time control adjustable between 6 and 24 hours and producing not less than 1 O pounds of condensate within 30 minutes. 3.3.5 Moisture content. The moisture

    20、 content of the refrigeration system shall be kept at a minimum to maintain proper operation of the refrigeration unit. 3.3.6 Refirrerant leakage. Refrigerant containing components shall be gastight. 3.3.7 Operation time. Type I refrigeration units shall operate for a minimum of 44 hours without ref

    21、ueling. 3.3.8 Design reliability. Refrigeration units shall operate properly for 2500 hours. 3.3.9 Ozone-depleting substances. The refrigerant shall be commercially available nonozone- depleting, and environmentally safe. Class I ozone-depleting substances, as determined by the Environmental Protect

    22、ion Agency, shall not be contained in, and shall be prohibited fiom use during the fabrication of, the refrigeration units (see 6.6). 3.3.1 O TemDerature control. The selected temperature of the refrigeration units shall be controlled automatically. The temperature control shall allow an incremental

    23、 selection of normal refrigerator temperatures. 3.3.1 1 Diesel engine. Unless otherwise specified for type I refrigeration units (see 6.2), the diesel engines electrical system shall operate on 12-volt direct current (DC). The engine shall operate on diesel and JP-8 fuels. 3.3.12 Compressor. Unless

    24、otherwise specified for type II refrigeration units (see 6.2), the compressor shall operate on 208/230 volt, 3-phase, 60-hertz (Hz) and 3-phase, 50-Hz power on the voltage specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). 3.3.13 Sdety. The refrigeration units shall minimize flammability, operational, to

    25、xic and personnel hazards. 3.4 Ownership and suport requirements. The net w

    26、eight of the refiigeration units, including oil and refrigerant, shall be not more than 1300 pounds for type I units, excluding the battery and fuel, and not more than 1100 pounds for type II units. 3.4.2 Transnortability. Refiigeration units shall be able to be lifted at the top of the unit to allo

    27、w loading and unloading for transport and operational setup. 3.4.3 Control panel. The refigeration units shall have a control panel for the operator having, but not limited to, the following items: 1. Start, run, stop switch 2. Operation indicator 3. Refiigerator temperature control 4. Refiigeration

    28、 unit running time indicator 5. Pressure reading indicators 6. Refrigerator interior temperature indicator 7. Defrost operation indicator 8. Fuel capacity indicator for type I units 9. Battery charging circuit voltage indicator for type I units 3.4.4 Service and maintenance. All major components sha

    29、ll be accessible for adjustment, maintenance, servicing, and replacement without removing any other major component. All other components and assemblies shall be designed for ease of installation and replacement and shall be accessible for maintenance, repair, service and replacement with minimum di

    30、sturbance to adjacent components. No special tools shall be needed for any maintenance, repair, service, installation or replacement action. Operator personnel shall be able to visually check the moisture content of the refrigeration system on all refiigeration units and the compressor crankcase oil

    31、 level on type I units. 3.4.5 Finish. The refiigeration units except where detrimental to proper operation shall have a nontoxic chemical agent resistant green finish (see 6.7.1). The word “CARC“, together with the month and year of finishing, shall be stencilled near the identification plate in blo

    32、ck letters not less than 1 inch high using lusterless black chemical agent resistant paint (see 6.7.2) All paint shall be properly applied . 3.4.6 Marking. Identification, instruction, control and gage plates shall be of corrosion-resistant material permanently attached to the outside of the refiige

    33、ration unit. Numbering and lettering shall be legible and permanently inscribed and shall be no less than 1/16 inch in height. Refrigerant used 3.4.6.2 Instruction plates. Instruction plates shall contain the wiring and refrigeration cycle diagrams

    36、, instructions for start-up, operation, shutdown and preventive maintenance. 3.4.6.2.1 Electrical instruction plate. Type II refrigeration units shall have an electrical instruction plate conforming to all requirements of 3.4.6, except it shall be located near the electrical supply junction box. The

    37、 plate shall be visible from outside the refrigeration unit and shall contain the wording “For 60-hertz operation use 208230 volt, 3-phase power source only. For 50-hertz operation use “XI volt, 3-phase power source only.“ The voltage specified in the contract or order (see 6.2) for 50-hertz operati

    38、on shall be marked in the “x“ location. 3.4.6.3 Control and gage nameplates. All controls and gages shall have identieing nameplates. 3.4.6.4 -wiring. Electrical wiring shall be marked to allow identification with the wiring diagram. 3.4.7 Interchangeability. All component parts of the refrigeration

    39、 Unit shall be interchangeable with the same parts of other units furnished under the same contract. 3.5 Operating environment requirements. Refrigeration units shall operate under the following environmental conditions. 3.5.1 Ambient temperature. The refrigeration units shall operate in ambient tem

    40、peratures fi-om OF to 125F. 3.5.2 Rainfall. The refrigeration unit shall operate in rainfall of not less than 3 inches per hour. 3.5.3 Shock and vibration. When specified (see 6.2), the type I and type II refrigeration units shall not exceed radiated emission El 02) limits for ground applications (Navy fixed and AF) over a

    42、 range of 2 megahertz (Mh) to 400 Mh. When specified (see 6.2), type II refrigeration units shall not exceed conducted emission (CE1 02) limits. 3.5.5 Storage conditions. The refrigeration units shall remain operable after storage in temperatures of minus 659 to plus 155F. 3.5.6 Noise level. The noi

    43、se levels at personnel “operators and “servicing“ positions shall not damage personnel hearing. 3.5.7 Corrosion resistance. The refrigeration units shall operate after exposure to a salt fog atmosphere. 3.6 Interface requirements. The refrigeration units shall be designed for use with prefabricated

    44、refrigerators (NSN 41 10-00-73 1-3247) (see 6.1) and shall have overall dimensions no greater than those shown on figure 1. 4. VERIFICATION 4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a. First article inspection (see 4.1.1) b. Conformanc
