Scope*1.1 This specification covers quenched-and-tempered alloysteel and high-strength lo

    3、w-alloy steel plates for piping com-ponents and welded pressure vessels.1.2 Two types are covered, which provide two differentchemical compositions with the same tensile requirements.Both types are quenched-and-tempered to enhance mechanicalproperties.1.2.1 Type A is an alloy steel intended for use

    4、at low ambienttemperatures of 80F 60C and higher.1.2.2 Type B is a high-strength low-alloy steel intended foruse at ambient temperatures of 20F 30C and higher.1.3 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by thecapacity of the chemical composition and heat treatment tomeet the specified mechan

    5、ical property requirements. Indi-vidual manufacturers should be consulted on thickness limita-tions since current industry limitations have not been ascer-tained to date.1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI unit

    6、s are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system mustbe used independently of the other. General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1 Material supplied to this material specification shallconform to the requirements of Specification A20/A20M.These requirements outline the testing and retesting methodsand procedures, permissible variations in di

    9、mensions and mass,quality, repair of defects, marking, loading, and orderinginformation.3.2 In addition to the basic requirements of thisspecification, certain supplementary requirements are availablewhen additional control, testing, or examination is required tomeet end use requirements. The purcha

    10、ser is referred to thelisted supplementary requirements in this specification and tothe detailed requirements in Specification A20/A20M.3.3 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A20/A20M, the require-ments of this specification shall prevail.

    11、4. Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement ofSpecification A20/A20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 The plates shall be heat treated by quenching andtempering. The austenitizing temperature shall be 1725F940C maximum. Tempering

    12、 temperature shall be 1150 to1300F 620 to 705C.5.2 If the purchaser elects to perform the heat treatment, thematerial shall be accepted on the basis of mill tests made fromtest coupons heat treated in accordance with the purchase orderrequirements. If the test coupon heat treatment is not indicatedo

    13、n the purchase order, the manufacturer shall heat treat the testcoupons under conditions he considers appropriate. The manu-facturer shall inform the purchaser of the heat-treat procedurefollowed in treatment of the test coupon.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on S

    17、on16. Chemical Requirements6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 1.7. Mechanical Requirements7.1 Tension TestThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall conform to the requirements in Table 2.7.1.1 For nominal plate thicknesses of34

    18、in. 20 mm andunder, the 112-in. 40-mm wide rectangular specimen may beused for the tension test, and the elongation may be determinedin a 2-in. 50-mm gage length that includes the fracture andthat shows the greatest elongation.8. Retreatment8.1 Quenched-and-tempered material that fails to meet theme

    19、chanical requirements may be re-heat treated. All requiredtests shall be repeated when material is resubmitted forinspection.9.
