、the UK implementation of EN 8158:2018. It supersedes BS EN 8158:2003, which will be withdrawn on 31 October 2019.This standard forms part of a series of standards concerning the safe design of passenger and goods passenger lifts. As such, it is intended to be read in conjunction with the other stand
、ards in the series: in particular, BS EN 8120, the base standard for the design of new lifts.During the transition period between publication of BS EN 8158:2018 and the withdrawal of BS EN 8158:2003, there are two possible applications of BS EN 8158 to the design of a new lift: 1 BS EN 8158:2018 can
、 be used in conjunction with BS EN 8120:2014.2 BS EN 8158:2003 can be used with BS EN 8120:2014 until 31 August 2019. BS EN 8158:2003 references BS EN 811 and BS EN 812 which are withdrawn. See Annex A of PD CEN/TR 8112:2014 for a correlation between the clauses of BS EN 811:1998+A3:2009 and BS EN 8
、12:1998+A3:2009 with the clauses in BS EN 8120:2014 and EN 8150:2014. Attention is drawn to the need for additional approval for the lift from a Notified Body.Attention is also drawn to the following statement published on the UK Building Regulations website (www.gov.uk/government/policies/building-
、regulation) as a frequently asked question (FAQ) about Approved Document B of the Building Regulations: “Are lift landing doors which have been tested and classified in accordance with the European standard EN 8158 an adequate alternative to doors tested and classified to BS 476-22?The Department ha
、s commissioned some comparative testing of doors using these two standards. The conclusions of this work are that for the purposes of Item 2.d of Table B1 (provisions for fire doors) of Approved Document B (Vol2), results from EN 8158 tests can be accepted as equivalent to BS 47622.”The UK committee
、 draws users attention to the Lifts Regulations 2016 and the need for approval from a Notified Body (e.g. Design Examination Certificate) for the use of lift landing doors to BS 476-22:1987 in new lifts. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee MHE/4, Lifts, hoists

When provisions of this type C standard are different from those which are stated in type A or B standards, the provisions of this type C standard take precedence ov
、er the provisions of the other standards for lift landing doors that have been designed and built according to the provisions of this type C standard. EN 81-20 has identified the need for lift doors to act as fire barriers against the transfer of a fire via the lift well. This European Standard spec
、ifies a procedure for this purpose. It follows the general principle of EN 1363-1 and where appropriate the procedure of EN 1634-1. Additionally a tracer gas technique for establishing the integrity of a lift landing door is used. Lift landing doors are not included in the scope of EN 1634-1. BS EN
、81-58:2018EN 81-58:2018 (E) 6 1 Scope This European Standard specifies the method of test for determining the fire resistance of lift landing doors which may be exposed to a fire from the landing side. The procedure applies to all types of lift landing doors used as a means of access to lifts in bui
、ldings and which are intended to provide a fire barrier to the spread of fire via the lift well. The procedure allows for the measurement of integrity and if required the measurement of radiation and thermal insulation. No requirements other than the verification that the specimen is operational are
、 included for mechanical conditioning before the test as these are included in the relevant product standard. 2 Normative references The following documents, in whole or in part, are normatively referenced in this document and are indispensable for its application.
