    8、THER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 Infrared (IR) Viewports are a fixed aperture, consisting of one or more openings or a solid infraredtransmitting media, surrounded by a mounting bezel or frame, that provide a means for the passage ofinfrared radiation

Infrared viewports are intended for factory installation in doors or walls of electricalenclosures for installation in ordinary (non-hazardous) locations to allow the use of IR scanners formonitoring temperatures of the enclosed equipment on which the viewport is installed, withoutcompromising the

    10、 integrity of the enclosure with respect to access to live parts. Viewports may beinvestigated for installation in Type 1 enclosures or enclosures with other environmental ratings.1.2 Compliance with these requirements does not assure that the infrared viewport is suitable for use asa component of a

    11、n end product. For example, accessibility of live parts is investigated with respect toindustrial products rated 600 V and below, and additional investigation may be required for products ratedover 600 V.1.3 The acceptability of an infrared viewport in any particular application depends upon its sui

    12、tability forcontinued use under the conditions that prevail in actual service. Accordingly, for a particular applicationan infrared viewport may be affected by the requirements for the equipment in which it is used, and it maybe necessary to additionally evaluate that infrared viewport for features

    13、or performance characteristicsthat are not specified in this Outline of Investigation.1.4 These requirements do not cover the field installation of infrared viewports on enclosures of electricalequipment already in service.1.5 These requirements do not cover viewports made from glass or translucent

    14、polymeric materialsintended for passage of visible light for observation of internal electrical equipment by operators or servicepersonnel.2 Units of Measurement2.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement.     16、 for that component.3.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline of investigation, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline of inves

    17、tigation.3.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.3.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities.Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as cer

    18、tain temperatures notexceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.4 Undated References4.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this outline ofinvestigation shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that co

    19、de or standard.CONSTRUCTION5 General5.1 An infrared viewport that forms part of the enclosure shall be reliably secured by hardware suppliedwith the viewport in such a manner that it cannot be readily displaced in service, and shall providemechanical protection for the enclosed parts.5.2 An adhesive

    20、 relied upon as the sole means for securing a part closing an opening in an enclosureshall comply with the requirements for adhesives in the Standard for Polymeric Materials Use inElectrical Equipment Evaluations, UL 746C when applied to the materials to be secured.5.3 A sealing compound relied upon

    21、 as the sole means for securing a part closing an opening in anenclosure shall comply with 5.2 or the Accelerated Aging Test for sealing compounds described in theStandard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.5.4 All hardware, gaskets, or other parts needed to complete the installation shall be

    23、equirements for Accessibility of Live Parts as described in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment,UL 508, with the cover in the removed or in the open position.7 Covers7.1 A cover is permitted to be supplied with an infrared viewport to protect the infrared transmitting mediafrom external da

    24、mage or to maintain the environmental rating of the enclosure when the viewport is notin use.7.2 When provided, a cover shall be provided with fastening means, such as latches, hinges, locks,screws or equivalent means, for firmly securing it in place.7.3 The cover fastening means shall be operable b

    25、y hand or by means of a simple hand tool, such as ascrewdriver, and shall remain captive to either the cover or frame when the cover or door is in the openposition.7.4 When the cover is relied upon to comply with the requirements of this Outline as in 20.2(b), theinfrared viewport shall be marked in

    26、 accordance with 21.2, and the cover shall:a) Comply with the requirements of 12.2 when made from a polymeric material;b) Comply with the requirements in 8.1 when made from metal; andc) Comply with (1) or (2) below:1) A movable viewport cover (a cover that remains attached to the viewport whenopened

    27、) and the means for securing the cover to the viewport shall remain attached tothe viewport when in the open position by hinges, multi-turn captive fasteners, orequivalent means;2) A removable viewport cover (a cover that is completely removed from the viewport)shall have captive means for securing

    28、the cover in place, such as latches or screwsthat remain attached to the viewport or the cover when the cover is removed.7.5 Infrared viewports that incorporate a movable or removable cover shall comply with 7.1, 7.4 and alsowith the requirements of Sections 11, 12 and 13, as applicable, with the co

    38、 enclosuresshall be protected against corrosion by enameling, galvanizing, plating, or other equivalent means.9.2 Iron and steel parts of infrared viewports for installation on Type 3, 3R, 3RX, 3S, 3SX, 3X, 4, 4X, 6,or 6P enclosures shall comply with the requirements for Protection Against Corrosion

    40、d-use equipment withinfrared viewports installed. Compliance with these requirements can only be determined during aninvestigation of the completed assembly, but they are noted here for reference purposes.10.2 When installed in the end-use equipment, conductive parts of the viewport shall comply wit

    41、h theelectrical spacing requirements of the end-use equipment standard.10.3 Conductive parts of a viewport are considered as part of the enclosure with respect to uninsulatedlive parts contained within the end use electrical enclosure.10.4 For equipment rated over 600V, the viewport shall comply wit

    42、h the dielectric tests, including impulsewithstand tests, specified in the end product equipment standard while the viewport is installed in theend-use equipment.11 Crystal Viewing Panes11.1 A crystal viewing pane covering an opening of not more than 4 inches (102 mm) in any dimensionshall be no les

    43、s than 0.055 inch (1.40 mm) thick.11.2 A crystal viewing pane covering an opening of not more than 12 inches (305 mm) in any dimensionshall be no less than 0.115 inch (2.92 mm) thick.11.3 A crystal viewing pane covering an opening with any dimension greater than 12 inches (305 mm) orthat does not co

    44、mply with 11.1 or 11.2 shall comply with the Crush Resistance Test, Section 19, andResistance to Impact Tests, Section 18.12 Polymeric Materials for Frames, Covers or Viewing Panes12.1 Polymeric materials closing an opening not more than 1.2 square inches (775 mm2)12.1.1 Polymeric materials shall be

    47、1, V-2, or HB, and shall comply with the Resistance to Impact Test, Section 18. Materialsrated other than 5VA shall also comply with the Flammability 127 mm (5 inch) Flame Test, Section 17.12.2.2 Polymeric materials which close an opening in the enclosure having any dimension greater than12 inches (

    48、304.8 mm), shall comply with the flammability and impact requirements in 12.2.1 above andalso comply with requirements for the crush resistance test, Section 19.13 Metallic Mesh or Grill Type Viewing Panes13.1 A metallic mesh or grill covering an opening shall not exceed 200 square inches (0.129 m2)

    49、 and shallcomply with 13.2 or 13.3.13.2 The diameter of the wires of a screen shall be at least 0.051 inch (1.30 mm) if the screen openingsare 0.500 square inch (32.3 mm2) or less in area, and shall be at least 0.081 inch (2.06 mm) for largerscreen openings.13.3 Perforated sheet steel and sheet steel employed for expanded-metal mesh shall be at least 0.042inch (1.07 mm) thick uncoated steel for mesh openings or perforations 0.500 square inch (32.3 mm2)orless in area, and shall be at least 0.080 inch (2.03 mm) thick u
