This Outline of Investigation contains basic requirements for products covered by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) under its Follow-Up Service for this catego

4、ry within the limitations given below and in the Scope section of this Outline of Investigation. They are subject to revision as further experience and investigation may show is necessary or desirable. B. The observance of these requirements by a manufacturer is one of the conditions of the continue

5、d coverage of the manufacturers product. C. A product which complies with the text of this Outline of Investigation will not necessarily be judged to comply with the Outline of Investigation if, when examined and tested, it is found to have other features which impair the level of safety contemplate

6、d by these requirements. D. A product employing materials or having forms of construction which conflict with specific requirements of the Outline of Investigation cannot be judged to comply with the Outline of Investigation. A product employing materials or having forms of construction not addresse

E. UL, in performing its functions in accordance with its objectives

8、, does not assume or undertake to discharge any responsibility of the manufacturer or any other party. The opinions and findings of UL represent its professional judgement given with due consideration to the necessary limitations of practical operation and state of the art at the time the Outline of

Many tests required by the Outline of Investigations of UL are inherently hazardous and adequate safeguards for personnel and property shall be employed in conducting such tests. FEBRUARY 2,2001 SUBJECT 1263 5 INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These cables are

11、 rated 600V, 75C and are for use in wet locations. The insulated-conductor sizes are Nos. 18 - 4/0 AWG stranded copper. The cables are intended to be used in irrigation machines that are electrically driven or electrically controlled in accordance with Article 675 of the National Electrical Code. 2

12、Construction 2.1 Conductor 2.1.1 Annealed stranded copper, bare or coated, in size Nos. 18 - 4/0 AWG. 2.2 Insulation 2.2.1 Listed insulated conductors shall be Types THW-2, THWN-2, XHHW-2, RHW-2, THHW, THW, THWN, RHW, XHHW; or Types TFN, TFFN, RFH-2, or FFH-2 using a wet-locations insulating compoun

13、d rated for at least 75C (167F) (QMlT2 in the case of PVC). 2.2.2 Insulated conductors other than those described in 2.2.1 shall have materials in thicknesses and with temperature ratings appropriate for the specific construction of the irrigation cable in which they are to be used. The materials sh

14、all be evaluated for the requested temperature rating as described in Long-Term Aging, Section 481 of the UL 1581 Reference Standard for Electric Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords. Investigation of the electrical, mechanical, and physical characteristics of these insulated conductors shall show thes

15、e conductors to be comparable to the conductors described in 2.2.1. The investigation shall include tests such as crushing, impact, abrasion, deformation, heat shock, insulation resistance, and dielectric voltage-withstand. 2.3 Conductor assembly 2.3.1 Conductors of different sizes may be used in th

16、e same cable. The insulated conductors shall be cabled. The length of lay is not specified. The cables shall be provided with fillers where needed to make the finished cable round. 2.3.2 The assembly may be enclosed in a nonmetallic braid, tape, or wrap. 6 SUBJECT 1263 FEBRUARY 2,2001 inches Not ove

The ink printing shall be investigated for durability as specified in Durability of Indelible-Ink Printing, Section 1690 of the Reference Standard for Electrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible C

30、ords, UL 1581. The sequence is not specified. A marker tape is appropriate in addition to the surface printing. Other information, where added, shall not confuse or mislead and shall not conflict with these requirements. See 3.3.1 for date marking. a) Listee and Factory Identification- The name of t

31、he Listee, the Listees trade name for the product, or both, or any other appropriate distinctive marking by means of which the organization responsible for the product is readily identifiable. Where the organization that is responsible for the product is different from the actual manufacturer, both

32、the responsible organization and the actual manufacturer shall be identified by name or by appropriate coding such as by trade name, trademark, the assigned electrical reference number, or the assigned combination of colored marker threads. The meaning of any coded identification shall be made avail

However, where the cable is coi

35、led on a reel or is in a carton, it is appropriate for the tag to be glued, tied, stapled, or otherwise attached to the reel or carton instead of to the cable, or for the tag to be eliminated and the information printed or stenciled directly onto the reel or carton. Other information, where added, s

Straight stripes are to be placed a nominal 120“ apart. Where multi

43、ple grounded circuit conductors are used in a cable, no more than one shall employ white stripes. Additional conductors intended to be grounded circuit conductors shall be finished white or natural grey and shall have any one of the following throughout the length of the wire or cable in a color or

44、combination of colors other than and in contrast with, white, natural grey, or green: (1) An unbroken series of identical numbers or hash marks or other symbols with dimensions as specified for stripes and with regular spacing. (2) Numerals, letters and/or words that comply with this outline, repeat

45、ed at intervals no longer than 3 inches or 76 mm. (3) One or more broken (non-continuous) or unbroken straight or helical stripes. See 4.1.2 for details on stripes. 4.1.1 revised February 2, 2001 4.1.2 Stripes as specified in 4.1.1 and 4.2.3 shall be of even or varying width and shall occupy a total

47、ndividual width less than 5 percent of that same circumference. The width shall be measured perpendicular to each stripe. Where broken stripes are appropriate, they shall consist of a series of identical marks and spaces, the length of each mark shall be at least 1/8 inch or 3 mm and the linear spac

48、ing between marks shall not be greater than 3/4 inch or 19 mm. 4.1.2 added February 2, 2001 10 SUBJECT 1263 FEBRUARY 2,2001 4.2 Grounding conductor 4.2.1 A grounding conductor, if provided, shall be equal in size to the largest circuit conductor in the cable, but not smaller than No. 14 AWG copper.

49、4.2.2 A metallic shield or drain wire or sheath or armor does not take the place of a grounding conductor. 4.2.3 The grounding conductor shall be bare or fully insulated. Where insulated, it shall be green for its entire length and circumference with or without one or more straight or helical, broken (non-continuous) or unbroken yellow stripes. See 4.1.2 for details on stripes.
