    10、em contaminanted.1.2 These requirements cover electrically operated parts cleaners rated up to 600 V, or manual type partscleaners with no electrical connection.1.3 These units are intended for use with flammable/combustible liquids or non-flammable/non-combustible cleaning solutions as detailed in

    11、the instruction manual provided with the unit and labels onthe unit.1.4 Requirements for the installation and use of parts cleaners are included in the National ElectricalCode, NFPA 70, the Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30, the Uniform Fire Code, NFPA1, and the International Fire Code

    12、, IFC.1.5 These requirements do not apply to units intended to be installed outdoors, intended for use withsolvents or cleaning solutions that are considered unstable, or the physiological effects of using theequipment with solvents, cleaning solutions or hazardous waste.2 General2.1 Components2.1.1

    13、 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this outline shall comply with therequirements for that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards covering components used in theproducts covered by this outline.2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific req

    14、uirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline.2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofus

    15、e.2.1.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performancecapabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certaintemperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.OCTOBER

    17、 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this outline shall beinterpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.3 Glossary3.1 For the purposes of this outline, the following definitions apply.3.2 AUTO-IGNITION TEMPERATURE The minimum tempera

    18、ture at which fuel-air mixtures will ignitespontaneously. This temperature is to be determined either at atmospheric pressure (14.7 psig), or at themaximum pressure present in the area of the fuel-air mixture, whichever is higher. At atmosphericpressure, the auto-ignition temperature of a solvent sh

    19、all be determined in accordance with the StandardTest Method for Auto-Ignition Temperature of Liquid Chemicals, ASTM E 659.3.3 COMBUSTIBLE LIQUID A material that has a fluidity greater than 300 penetration asphalt whentested in accordance with the Standard Test Method for Penetration for Bituminous

    20、Materials, ASTM D 5,and that has a closed cup flash point at or above 37.8C (100F). Combustible liquids are subdivided asfollows:a) Class II liquids include those having flash points at or above 37.8C and below 60C(140F);b) Class IIIA liquids include those having flash points at or above 60C and bel

    21、ow 93C(200F); andc) Class IIIB liquids include those having flash points at or above 93C.3.4 FLAMMABLE LIQUID A material that has a fluidity greater than 300 penetration asphalt whentested in accordance with the Standard Test Method for Penetration for Bituminous Materials, ASTM D 5,and that has a c

    22、losed cup flash point below 37.8C (100F) and a vapor pressure not exceeding 2068 mmHg (40 psia). Flammable liquids are Class I liquids, and are subdivided as follows:a) Class IA liquids include those having flash points below 22.8C (73F) and having a boilingpoint below 37.8C (100F);b) Class IB liqui

    24、DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL3.5 FLASH POINT The minimum temperature at which a liquid gives off vapor in sufficient concentrationto form an ignitable mixture with air near the surface of the liquid within the vessel as specified by theappropriate test procedure and apparatus as follows:a)

    25、 The flash point of a liquid having a viscosity less than 45 Saybold Universal Seconds (SUS)at 37.8C (100F) and a flash point below 93C (200F) as determined in accordance with theStandard Test Method for Flash Point by Tag Closed Cup Tester, ANSI/ASTM D 56 Rev A.b) The flash point of a liquid having

    26、 a viscosity of 45 SUS or more at 37.8C or a flash point of93C or higher as determined in accordance with the Standard Test Methods for Flash Point bythe Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester IP Designation: 34/99, ANSI/ASTM D 93 Rev A.c) The Standard Test Methods for Flash Point of Liquids by Small Scal

    27、e Closed-CupApparatus, ASTM D 3278, may be used for paints, enamels, lacquers, varnishes, and relatedunits and their components having flash points between 0C (32F) and 110C (230F) andhaving a viscosity lower than 150 centistokes at 25C (77F).d) The Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Small Sca

    28、le Closed Tester IP Designation:303/83 (88), ANSI/ASTM D 3828, may be used for materials other than those for which specificsetaflash methods exist.3.6 IGNITABLE MIXTURE A vapor-air, gas-air, dust-air mixture or combinations of these mixtures thatcan be ignited by a static spark.3.7 LINE VOLTAGE CIR

    29、CUIT A circuit involving a potential of not more than 600 V and having circuitcharacteristics in excess of those of a low voltage circuit.3.8 LOW VOLAGE CIRCUIT A circuit involving a potential of not more than 30 V (42.4 volts peak) andsupplied by a primary battery, by a standard Class 2 transformer

    30、, or by an impedance which, as a unit,complies with all of the performance requirements for a Class 2 transformer.3.9 LOWER FLAMMABILITY LIMIT (LFL) The minimum concentration of vapor in air at whichpropagation of flame will occur in the presence of an ignition source. LFL is sometimes referred to a

    31、s LEL,or lower explosive limit.3.10 SOLUTION a non-flammable/non-combustible cleaning liquid which has water as its primarycontent.3.11 SOLVENT A flammable or combustible liquid capable of dissolving another substance to form auniformly dispersed mixture at the molecular or ionic level.3.12 UNSTABLE

    32、 LIQUID A liquid that, in the pure state or as commercially produced or transported,will vigorously polymerize, decompose, undergo condensation reaction, or become self-reactive underconditions of shock, pressure, or temperature.3.13 VESSEL A container, tank, or other receptacle intended to contain

    34、m thickness of 1.0 mm (0.04 in). The lid shall comply with the Lid Impact Test, Section29.4.2 Flammable/combustible liquids washers shall be provided with a fusible link assembly that will allowthe lid to close in the event of a fire. See the Fusible Link Operation Test, Section 27.4.3 Non-flammable

    35、/non-combustible cleaning solutions washers vats and lids may be constructed of apolymeric material or metal. The lid shall comply with the Lid Impact Test, Section 29.4.4 Non-flammable/non-combustible cleaning solutions washers do not require a fusible link.5 Solvents5.1 The flammable/combustible s

    36、olvents and non-flammable/non-combustible cleaning solutions intendedfor use with the equipment are to be described in the instruction manual and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)supplied with the equipment. See 34.3 and 35.3.6 Pumps6.1 General6.1.1 Submersible Pumps shall comply with 6.2 or 6.3.6.1.2 Non-su

    37、bmersible electrical pumps motors shall be installed not less than 460 mm (18 inches) abovefloor level.Exception: A motor evaluated for use in Class 1, Division 1, Hazardous Locations as defined in theNational Electrical Code, NFPA 70, is not required to comply with this requirement.6.2 Water based

    38、solution pumps6.2.1 Pumps for use with water based solution shall be evaluated to the Standard for Motor-OperatedWater Pumps, UL 778.Exception: Pumps for use with water based solutions and complying with 6.3 are acceptable.6.2.2 Pumps for use with water based solutions shall be permanently sealed.OC

    40、-Operated Pumps for Petroleum Dispensing Products, UL 79.7 Supply Connections7.1 General7.1.1 Electrically powered parts cleaners shall be connected to a source of supply by either a powersupply cord or a permanent connection.7.1.2 Electrically powered parts cleaners connected by a supply cord shall

    41、 comply with cord connectedproducts, 7.2. Electrically powered parts cleaners that are permanently connected shall comply withpermanently connected products, 7.3.7.1.3 Electrically powered parts cleaners shall be provided with a connection to ground that complies withGrounding, Section 8.7.2 Cord co

    42、nnected products7.2.1 General7.2.1.1 A cord connected unit shall be provided with a non-detachable cord and a grounding typeattachment plug for connection to the supply circuit.7.2.1.2 The power supply cord shall comply with the requirements of the Standard for Cord Sets andPower Supply Cords, UL 81

    43、7.7.2.1.3 The power supply cord shall be at least as serviceable as Type SJ cord and be evaluated forexposure to oil.7.2.1.4 The power supply cord shall not be rated less than the rated voltage and current of the unit. Inaddition, the attachment plug shall be rated not less than 125 percent of the r

    44、ated current of the unit.7.2.1.5 The maximum length of the power supply cord shall be 2.44 m (8 ft).OCTOBER 23, 2017 UL 1204 9UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL7.2.2 Strain relief7.2.2.1 Strain relief shall be provided to reduce

    45、the risk of a mechanical stress on an attached powersupply cord from being transmitted to terminals, splices, or interior wiring. See Strain Relief Test, Section22. A knot in the flexible cord is not considered an acceptable form of strain relief.7.2.2.2 Means shall be provided to restrict an attach

    46、ed power supply cord from being pushed into theenclosure of a unit through the cord entry hole if such displacement is likely to:a) Subject the cord to mechanical damage;b) Expose the cord to a temperature higher than that for which it is acceptable; orc) Reduce spacings, such as to a metal strain r

    47、elief clamp, below the minimum required values.7.2.3 Bushings7.2.3.1 At a point where a flexible cord passes through an opening in a wall, barrier, or enclosing case,there shall be a bushing or similar device that shall be secured in place, and shall have a smooth,well-rounded surface against which

    48、the cord may bear. The heat and moisture resistant properties of thebushing material shall be such that the bushing is acceptable for the particular application.7.2.3.2 If the cord hole is in porcelain, phenolic composition, or other nonconducting material, a smooth,well-rounded surface is considere

    49、d to be equivalent to a bushing.7.2.3.3 Ceramic materials and some molded compositions are acceptable generally for insulatingbushing, but rubber material (other than in a motor) is not acceptable. Vulcanized fiber may be used if thebushing is not less than 1.2 mm (3/64 inch) thick and if it is formed and secured in place so that it will notbe affected adversely by moist conditions.7.2.3.4 A separate soft rubber, neoprene, or polyvinyl chloride bushing may be used in the frame of amotor or in the enclosure of a capaci
