5、e switch housings when bothhousings are mounted on a 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) thick mild steel plate as intended in service.19.2.1.1 Level 1 and Level 2 high security switches shall have an operational gap of 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) inaddition to complying with the applicable requirements specified in Sections 49
6、 65.19.2.2 As the maximum acceptable gap of separation is based upon the parameters of field installation,the gap of separation of unmounted samples of each magnetically actuated switch construction is to bemeasured on nonmagnetic material for informational purposes. The gap of separation is the dis

8、djusted to its maximum distance in accordance with the manufacturinginstructions. 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) operating gap (also reference 19.2.1).RATIONALE FOR DECISION:UL 634 performance tests are intended to be incremental in security with all switches meeting the generalrequirements of section 19, and in
9、cremental in performance to Level 1 then Level 2 (High SecurityBalanced Magnet Switches). These clarifications show that 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) operating gap applies to allswitches covered by this standard and manufacturers instructions are not allowed exceptions to the basicrequirements of the standard.
