This document is part of the series of fiber optic connector intermate

    20、ability standards included within TIA/EIA-604, Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standards (FOCIS). 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Scope FOCIS 7 presents the intermateability standard for connectors designated Type SG, and is issued as an addendum to TIA/EIA 604, Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Sta

    21、ndards. The provisions of TIA/EIA 604 apply to this document. 1.2 Objective The requirements in FOCIS 7 have been selected with the objective of ensuring that any combination of Plugs and Sockets conforming to the requirements of FOCIS 7 will mechanically intermate, and that intermated connector ass

    22、emblies will meet their common level of performance. Intermateability standards define the minimum physical attributes of mating connector components. Fully dimensioned components are not within the scope or intent of FOCIS 7. The common level of performance of an intermated connector assembly is th

    23、e least demanding set of performance requirements in the separate performance specifications of each of the products in the assembly; see TIA/EIA 604. The following factors, however, shall be considered in the application of common performance: 1. Common performance does not account for intrinsic lo

    24、ss between the fibers being joined; see TIA/EIA 604, section 6. There are also limitations based on the options that are available. 1. Fiber Diameter - Single-mode fibers have an established diameter tolerance conforming to a TIA product specification. Multimode fibers have an established diameter t

    25、olerance conforming to a TIA product specification. Both plug and socket fiber shall be in the same diameter tolerance category. TIA-604-7A 2 2. Keying - The keying arrangement for the plugs in a connector assembly shall be compatible with the keying arrangement for the socket. 3. Contact Angle - Bo

    26、th fibers in a connector assembly shall have the same contact angle. Cases of combinations of plugs and sockets where mechanical intermateability or the common level of performance is not achieved should be resolved through the cooperation of the user and the connector plug and socket manufacturer(s

    27、). 1.3 Drawing practices To be in compliance with ANSI and ISO Engineering Drawing Practices, the following shall apply: 1. Where a tolerance of form is not specified, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the form as well as the size. The combined effects of size and form variations ma

    28、y not exceed the envelope of perfect form at the maximum material condition (MMC). 2. Where interrelated features of size (features shown with a common axis or center plane) have no geometric tolerance of location or runout specified, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the location t

    29、olerance as well as the size. When interrelated features are at the MMC they shall be perfectly located to each other as indicated by the drawing. 3. Where perpendicular features (features shown at right angles) have no geometric tolerance or orientation or runout specified, the limits of the dimens

    30、ions for a feature control the orientation tolerance as well as the size. When perpendicular features are at the MMC they shall be perfectly oriented to each other as indicated by the drawing. 4. As the size of a feature departs from the MMC, variations in form, location and orientation are permissi

PLUG STANDARD 2.1 Plug designation The complete designation for a FOCIS 7 connector plug is: FOCIS 7 P n k f a where P designates that it is the Plug n is the number of fibers k defines the keying arrangement f defines the optical fiber diameter a is the angle of contact 2.2 Plu

    32、g requirements FOCIS 7 Plugs shall meet the requirements of this section. 2.2.1 Plug interface dimensions The dimensional requirements for FOCIS 7 Plug intermateability are defined as follows: n = 2, figure 2.2.1, Duplex Plug Interface 2.2.2 Plug keying options Keying refers to differences in the in

    33、terface between FOCIS 7 Plugs and Sockets that affect the ability of Plugs and Sockets to be connected. Only a single keying option for FOCIS 7 Plugs has been defined, k = 1. 2.2.3 Optical Fiber Diameter Specify the Plug optical fiber diameter “f” from Table 1. A single optical fiber diameter has be

    34、en defined, f = 1 2.2.4 Angle of Contact The contact angle is the angle between the plane of contact between mating fibers and a plane perpendicular to the optical axis of the Plug fiber. A single contact angle of 8 for FOCIS 7 Plugs has been defined, a = 8. The requirements for a = 8 Plugs are defi

    35、ned in Figure 2.2.4. TIA-604-7A 4 3.     37、.1, Duplex Socket Interface 3.2.2 Socket interface option There are two socket interface options defined for FOCIS 7 Sockets. The requirements for these interfaces are: d=0 The design requirement on the elements of the socket that control the interface with the plug, for sockets offered under this o

    38、ption, is that the sockets function with all plugs that meet the requirements for FOCIS 7, and incorporate the same number and diameters of optical fibers. d=1 The elements of the socket that control the interface with the plug, for sockets offered under this option, must meet the dimensional requir

    39、ements of figure 3.2.1, Socket interface (d=1). 3.2.3 Socket keying options Keying refers to differences in the interface between FOCIS 7 plugs and sockets that affect the ability of plugs and sockets to be connected or that alter the performance of the resulting connector assembly. Only a single ke

    40、ying option for FOCIS 7 Sockets has been defined, k = 1. TIA-604-7A 5 3.2.4 Socket mounting options Mounting options define dimensional requirements and attributes for external socket surfaces to ensure intermateability with mounting panel provisions and cutouts for each defined mounting design. The Socket mounting options are: m = 0 Unspecified mounting m = 1 Modular Snap-In Faceplate mounting (Fig. 3.2.4) 3.2.5 Optical Fiber Diameter Specify the Socket optical fiber diameter “f” from Table 1.     44、ations. 4.1 Receptacles A receptacle provides an optical connection to a device such as an optical source or detector. A receptacle for FOCIS 7 plugs may be based on socket dimensions from figure 3.2.1 for n = 2. 4.2 Hybrid components A hybrid component provides a mechanical and optical connection b

Minimum optical fiber strip length shall be 7.4 mm. Uncoated optical fibers shall not extend into flex region of the mated interface.
