、-standing of the TIA/EIA-136 packet MAC.Document OrganizationThe document is divided into two separate parts, viz. a text part and an SDL part:Text:The textual part of the document consists of chapters 1 through 5 (normative), Annex A (normative) and Appendices A through E (informative). These can b

、e read independent of the SDL part of the document (chapters 6, 7 and Annex B). They provide the first level of detail of the MAC by providing a functional-level description without going into the details of the internal entities of the MAC. Specifically, they cover the MAC internal/external archite

The Fixed Coding (FCM) and Incremen-tal Redundancy (IRM) specific text are presented in independent sections with headings that clearly indicate the applicable mode. Therefore readers may focus effort on the

、sections with content relevant to their interestsSDL:The SDL part of the document consists - in its entirety - of chapters 6 (MS), 7 (BS) and Annex B (all normative). The SDLs are provided in addition to the text as a second level of detail by elaborating on the internals of the MAC. Each SDL corres

、ponds to one of the internal functional entities of the MAC and is a separate section. It is not necessary to read the SDLs to understand the text part of the document. Each SDL section contains an overview of the SDL, a list (with descriptions) of the variables used in the SDL and finally the SDL f

The Fixed Coding (FCM) and TIA/EIA-136-332iiIncremental Redundancy (IRM) specific SDLs are presented independent of each other with headings that clearly indicate the applicable mode. Therefore readers may focus effort on the SDLs with content relevant to their interests.Suggested Approac

、h to Reading the Document1. The text part of the document should be read first to get a thorough functional-level understanding of theMAC (chapters 1-5 except section 5.10, Annex A and Appendices A-E). Readers may focus effort on thesections with content relevant to their interests. 2. The SDLs may

、be read next for additional in-depth understanding of the MAC and for comprehensive refer-ence purposes (chapters 6 and 7 and section 5.10). In the first pass, it is sufficient to read the text overview atthe beginning of each SDL section and then to roughly verify the SDL for correspondence with th

、e over-view. Variable names are self-explanatory so the variable list may be used as a reference. Subsequent passesmay be performed in progressively greater detail as required.Note that there are substantial similarities between the corresponding MS and BS functional entities and also between the FC

、M and IRM modes (the IRM-specific SDLs appear in the Transmission Controller and PDU Encoder/Decoder entities only). In addition, low-level details such as ARQ table management can be skipped in the initial passes through the SDLs.TIA/EIA-136-332iiiContents1 Introduction . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
