、 Module Functional Characteristics O Foreword This foreword is not part of this Telecommunications Systems Bulletin. This Telecommunications Systems Bulletin has been developed by Subcommittee TR-45.6, and contains information which may be useful to implementors of systems compliant with TSB-87, “Ce

、llular Digital Packet Data System Specification,” or its derivatives. This document contains significant portions of material originally submitted by the Cellular Digital Packet Data Forum Inc. CDPD is a technology intended to provide packet data networking services to mobile hosts. The media used t

、o provide these services consists of radio channels typically used for Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) cellular service. o. 1 Document Structure This Telecommunications Systems Bulletin is published as a series of Parts. Each Part contains information pertaining to one aspect of the system. The

、functional structure of this TSB is as follows: o Part 1000 to Part 1999-Guidelines for Service Providers These Parts are informative and discuss non-CDPD specific entities (such as Intermediate Systems), support services (such as directory .- 2015-iii Subscriber identity Module Functional Character

、istics services, accounting summary and settlement procedures, authentication, etc.), value-added services (such as subscriber location) and Service Provider issues (such as an interoperability test plan overview and parameter configuration). Part 1000 contains the detailed listing of ail Parts of t

、his TSB. Part 2000 to Part 2999-Guidelines for Manufacturers of CDPD equipment These Parts are informative and discuss such concerns as CDPD-specific entities (such as Mobile End Systems (M-ESs), Mobile Data Base Stations (MDBSs) and Mobile Data Intermediate Systems (MD-ISS), external interfaces (su

、ch as that between the Subscriber Unit (SU) and the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) and multicasts from the perspective of each of the participating entities. Part 3000 to Part 3999-Guidelines for the CDPD Network Information Center (NIC). These Parts are informative and describe the issues and pro

、cedures which must be addressed by an agency serving as a NIC on behaif of the CDPD community. e o 201 Siv STD-EIA TSBB7-2015-ENGL 1997 W 3234b00 b015L8 58T M TIA/EIA/TSB-87-2015 Introduction .- PART 2015 Subscriber Identity Module Functional Characteristics 1 Introduction Part 2010 describes how th

、e Mobile End System (M-ES) consists of three functional subsystems: a Mobile Application Subsystem (MAS), a Subscriber Unit (SU) and a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM). A removable SIM is optional; however, its function must be supported by all M-ESs. This Part describes the functional characteristi

、cs of the SIM, the contents of the SIM and the interface between the SIM and the SU. This recommendation was originally based on those sections of the GSM specification that defines a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), a form of “smart card,” for use in the GSM system ETSI-GSM-O.2.1.7-V.4.3.1. It is

、a requirement that all SIMs are logically and functionally standardized for all CDPD M-ESs, and it is a requirement that removable SIMs are electrically and physically standardized for those CDPD M-ESs that provide this option. The removable SIM shall contain an active CPU element to provide access

、security to the contents of the SIM. CDPD service may be one of the applications of a multi-service removable SIM. All specifications of the SIM in this recommendation refer to the part of the SIM that is specific for CDPD mobile services. - 201 5-1 STD-EIA TSB87-2015-ENGL 1777 3234b00 ObOL5L7 4Lb T

、IAJEIAlTSB-87-2015 Subscriber Identity Module Functional Characteristics SIM functions will be updated over time. Forward compatibility shall be assured with regard to the standardization of the network interface functions of the SIM via the SU and with regard to the user-related SIM functions on th

、e SIM-SU interface. 2 General 2.1 Description 2.2 The removable SIMis a module that is meant to be inserted whenever the subscriber wants to use the M-ES (and may be removed when the M-ES is unattended) or at subscription time. The SIM shall provide storage of subscriber-related temporary data. The

、SIM contains one or more Network Entity Identifiers (NEIs) and their associated authentication parameters as described in IS-732-4061. The removable SIM has a clearIy defined physical and logical interface with the outside world. A Personal Identification Number (PIN) must be used to provide protect

、ion against unauthorized use of the SIM. For security reasons, the PIN must be stored and checked within the removable SIM. Definitions 2.2.1 SIM refers to the functional characteristics which are common to all the types of SIMs. The SIM function may exist as a logical element in the SU and cannot be physically removed separately from the SU. Removable SIMs may be physically removed as a separate unit from the SU. There are three t.ypes of removable SIM: o PCMCIASIM o CardSIM o Embedded SIM. PCMCIA SIM This is a module whose interface to the outside world
