10、d use 1 Scope This specification covers the material, dimensional, and hardness requirements relating to four types of metal-working chisels for hand use. NOTE a) The titles of standards referred to by number in the specification are given in appendix A. b) Requirements that must be specified by the
11、 purchaser and a requirement that may be agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer are given in appendix B. c) The drawings are illustrative only and are not intended to preclude chisels which differ in appearance but are otherwise in accordance with the requirements of the specificatio
12、n. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this specification the following definitions apply: acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase contract, as relevant Amdt 2; amdt 3 defective a chisel that fails in one or more respects to com
13、ply with the appropriate requirements of the specification lot not less than 10 and not more than 500 chisels of the same type, size, and form of section, from one manufacturer, submitted at any one time for inspection and testing 3 Requirements 3.1 Type Chisels shall be of one of the following type

21、ial Chisels shall be made of steel. Amdt 2 3.4 Dimensions 3.4.1 The dimensions of a chisel shall conform to the nominal values or, in the case of the length and when relevant, to one of the nominal values, given in table 1, 2, 3, or 4, appropriate to the type and the size of the chisel. 3.4.2 The di
22、stance across the flats of a chisel of octagonal section shall conform to the appropriate value given in table 1, 2, 3, or 4, as relevant. SANS 1152:2008 Edition 1.3 8 3.5 Form of section Chisels shall be of octagonal section or of any other section agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufact
23、urer. 3.6 Forgings Chisels shall be cleanly forged, well shaped, and free from flaws, seams, and other defects. 3.7 Finish The shanks of chisels shall have a black oiled, plated, painted, or other acceptable finish. The taper portions at the cutting end and at the striking end shall have an acceptab
24、le ground finish. 3.8 Hardness1)The Rockwell C hardness of a chisel, determined in accordance with 6.2, shall be as follows: a) Cutting end, for a distance from the point (in millimetres), equal to at least the nominal size of the chisel: 52-58 HRC; b) Striking face and the surface of the shank for
25、a distance from the edge of the striking face of at least 25 mm: 22-32 HRC. Amdt 1 3.9 Soundness When tested in accordance with 6.3, chisels shall show no sign of cracks or seams. 4 Packing and marking 4.1 Packing Chisels shall be so packed that they are acceptably protected from damage during trans
26、portation and handling. Except when chisels are supplied in sets, only chisels of the same type, size, and form of section shall be packed together in a bundle or container. 4.2 Marking Each chisel shall be legibly and permanently marked with the manufacturers name or trade name or trade mark. 5 Sam
27、pling and compliance with the specification2)5.1 Sampling The following sampling procedure shall be applied in determining whether a lot complies with the relevant requirements of the specification. The samples so taken shall be deemed to represent the lot for the respective properties. 1) Chisels a
28、re prone to work-hardening and the specified values apply only at the time of delivery. 2) This section applies to the sampling for inspection and testing before acceptance or rejection of single lots (consignments) in cases where no information about the implementation of quality control or testing
29、 during manufacture is available to help in assessing the quality of the lot. It is also used as the procedure for adjudicating in cases of dispute. SANS 1152:2008 Edition 1.3 9 5.1.1 Sample for inspection From the lot take at random the number of chisels shown in column 2 of table 5 relative to the
30、 appropriate lot size shown in column 1. 31、ppropriate number of chisels shown in column 3 of table 5. 5.2 Compliance with the specification The lot shall be deemed to comply with the requirements of the specification if, after inspection and testing of the samples taken in accordance with 5.1, no defective is found. 6 Inspection and methods
32、of test 6.1 Inspection Examine and measure each chisel in the sample taken in accordance with 5.1.1 for compliance with all the applicable requirements of the specification other than those given in 3.8 and 3.9. 6.2 Hardness test Using the relevant procedure described in SANS 6506-1 and a calibrated
33、 hardness testing machine, check each chisel in the sample taken in accordance with 5.1.2 for compliance with the requirements of 3.8. Ensure that the surface under test is at right angles to the axis of the penetrator of the testing machine. Amdt 3 6.3 Soundness test By using a magnetic, penetrant,
34、 or other acceptable method, test each chisel in the sample taken in accordance with 5.1.2 for compliance with the requirements of 3.9.
