10、nk SANS 10188:2008 Edition 2.1 3 Standard methods of garment measurement 1 Scope This standard defines the various measuring points used to determine the dimensions of various categories of garments. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this t
11、ext, constitute provisions of this standard. All standards are subject to revision, and since any reference to a standard is deemed to be a reference to the latest edition of that standard, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to take steps to ensure the use of the most recent

SANS 10004, Terms and definitions for textiles and textile merchandise. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the relevant definitions given in SANS 10004 apply. 4 Garment categories For the purposes of this standard, the garments covered are divided into the following
14、categories: Category A Coats and similar items of outerwear that cover the whole or only the upper part of the body, e.g. overcoats, jackets, raincoats, blazers, uniform tunics. Category B Trousers and similar garments that cover only the lower part of the body, e.g. shorts,slacks, long underpants a
15、nd tracksuit pants. Category C Sleeveless tailored garments of the waistcoat type that cover only the upper part of thebody. Category D Shirts and similar items of outerwear for men, women and children that cover only theupper part of the body. Category E Dresses, gowns and similar items of outerwea
16、r for women and girls that cover the whole body. Category P Headgear, e.g. baseball caps, beanie caps and flight caps. 5 Procedure 5.1 General When appropriate, so lay the garment out (with buttons fastened and slide fasteners c
20、losed, unless otherwise stated) on a smooth flat surface that it is free from folds, wrinkles and creases and, using a tape measure graduated in centimetres and millimetres, measure the appropriate dimensions in accordance with categories A to P.
