、-2 : Section MG:1981 Approved by the PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN BUREAU OF STANDARDS CODE OF PRACTICE SABS 0120-2 : Section MG:1996 SABS 1200 MG : Bituminous surface treatment NOTES 1 Number the PSMG clauses in portion 2 of the project specification in the sequence in which the clauses to which t
、hey relate appear in SABS 1200 MG. 2 The clause number(s) given in brackets at the beginning or after the heading of a clause istare, unless otherwise stated, the number(s) of the relevant clause(s) of SABS 1200 MG. 1 Essential project specification clauses Set out suitable clauses in portion 2 of t
、he project specification to provide essential information as follows: a) (5.5.1) Specify whether one or two coats of bituminous binder are required. b) (5.5.1) Specify whether one or two coats of slurry seal are required. 2 Essential data The availability of certain essential data could affect the p

Except where such data have been given in the schedule or on the tender drawings, set out suitable clauses covering items such as the following in portion 2 of the project specification: a) (Clause 1) State the surface treatment required. b) (3.1) When relevant, state which prime is
、to be used. c) (3.3 and 3.5) State which types and grades of bituminous binders are to be used. d) (3.6) State whether grade 1, grade 2 or grade 3 aggregate is required. e) (3.7) State the grade or type (or both) of slurry required. f) (3.9) When relevant, state which filler is to be used. g) (5.2)
、State whether a prime coat is required and, if so, the type and, when relevant, the grade and over which parts of the works it is required. h) (5.4.1) When relevant, state the nominal sizes of aggregate to be used for double surface treatment. i) (5.4.6) State whether a fog spray is required. If so,
、 provide a schedule item. j) (5.4.7) When relevant, state whether pre-coating of the second application of aggregate is required for double surface treatment. If so, provide schedule items and, where necessary, amend the pre-coating application rate. k) (5.5.1) When relevant, state the nominal size
、of aggregate and the number of applications of bituminous binder and of slurry seal required. 1) (5.6.1) When relevant, state the nominal size of aggregate to be used for single surface treatment. m) Unless details have been set out in the drawings, provide a list of street names or road sections to
、 be surfaced and, in respect of each street or road section, state the type of base, whether a prime is required, the type of surface treatment (including the aggregate sizes) and in the case of double surface treatment, whether pre-coating of the second application of stone chips is required and wh

Where the engineer does require final rolling with a steel-tyred roller, insert a clause such as the following:
、PSMG 2.1 Fhal rolling (4.42, 4.4.3 and 5.4.5) a) Final rolling shall be done with a flat steel-tyred roller of the type specified in 4.4.3 of 8ABS 1200 MG, working parallel to the centre-line from the shoulders towards the crown of the road until, subject to the provisions of (b) below, every portio
、n of the area concerned has been covered by at least 2 passes of the roller, or a limited amount of crushing of the aggregate has taken place. b) If, in the opinion of the Engineer, excessive general crushing occurs under the roller, such rolling shall be stopped, regardless of the number of passes
