    6、m This specification covers flash welded rings made of corrosion and heat-resistant austenitic steels and austenitic-type iron, nickel, or cobalt alloys, or precipitation-hardenable alloys. 1.2 Application These rings have been used typically for parts, such as flanged casing and seal rings, requiri

    7、ng both corrosion and heat resistance, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a subsequent revi

    8、sion of a document unless a specific document issue is specified. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Material Shall be as specified on the drawing. 3.2 Fabrication 3.2.1 Forming Rings sha

    12、ll be formed from rolled, extruded, or forged shapes. Grain flow in the formed rings shall be substantially circumferential. 3.2.2 Preparation for Welding Formed rings shall be clean and free from foreign materials in the area of electrode contact and at the surface to be welded. 3.2.3 Welding The e

    13、nds of the formed rings shall be flash butt-welded together with only one weld on each ring. Welding shall be performed on a machine provided with control of: Feed of the joint during flashing Rate and distance of travel of the sections to be welded Secondary voltage and current magnitude Timing and

    14、 current cut off. The flash shall be maintained during the flashing interval of the welding operation. The amount of manual flashing used for preheating shall be limited to 10% of the total flashing distance. The machine shall be capable of repeating the sequence of operations independently of the s

    15、kill of the machine operator. A record of machine settings and sequence of operations for each part number shall be maintained in accordance with purchasers requirements. 3.2.4 Solution Heat Treatment The welded rings shall be solution heat treated, unless otherwise specified by the applicable mater

    16、ial specification or part drawing. 3.2.5 Proof Testing of Welds (Sizing) Each ring, after cooling to room temperature, shall be tested to determine the quality of the weld. Each ring, before sizing, shall have flash and excess metal at the weld removed to within +0.031 inch (+0.80 mm) of parent meta

    17、l surface before or after solution heat treatment. Preliminary sizing may be done before cooling but final sizing shall be done at room temperature. Sizing shall be sufficient to provide a permanent expansion of not less than 1% across a 2 inch (50.8 mm) gage length centered on the weld. The 1% mini

    18、mum permanent expansion shall be verified by measurement on at least one ring from each welding lot. Sizing shall be performed to provide uniform stress distribution throughout the ring. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS7490Q Page 3 of 6 3.2.5.1 For rings made from product under 0.188 inch (4.78 mm) in nominal

    19、thickness, flash removal may reduce thickness below that of parent metal provided that the finished weld blends smoothly into adjacent metal and provided that thickness is not reduced below the minimum specified on the drawing for the parent metal. 3.2.6 When the drawing or applicable material speci

    20、fication requires additional heat treatment, rings shall be so heat treated after sizing in accordance with 3.2.5. 3.2.7 Restoration to Shape If necessary to restore shape of rings following sizing, or following final heat treatment when specified, such operations shall be done on suitable presses a

    21、nd not by localized blows as from a hammer. Rings may be reheated to a temperature not higher than 900 F (482 C) for such operations. 3.3 Properties Rings shall conform to the following requirements: 3.3.1 Tensile Properties Through Welded Area Shall be as follows, determined on specimens cut, after

    22、 final heat treatment of the lot, from welded rings processed as specified herein: Tensile tests shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM E 8/E 8M. 3.3.1.1 Nonprecipitation-Hardenable Austenitic Steels and AMS5665 The requirements shown in Table 1 apply only to austenitic corrosion and heat-resist

    23、ant steels having specified maximum hardness up to 187 HB, inclusive, or equivalent (See 8.2), and to AMS5665.     24、tation-Hardenable Austenitic Steels and Iron, Nickel, and Cobalt Alloys, and Nonprecipitation-Hardenable Iron, Nickel (Except AMS5665), and Cobalt Alloys The requirements shown in Table 2 apply to all precipitation-hardenable corrosion and heat-resistant steels and iron, nickel, and cobalt alloys, r

    25、egardless of condition, to nonprecipitation-hardenable austenitic corrosion and heat-resistant steels with specified maximum hardness higher than 187 HB, or equivalent (See 8.2), and to nonprecipitation-hardenable iron, nickel (except AMS5665), and cobalt alloys except those steels and alloys to whi

    26、ch 3.3.1.3 applies.     28、d Iron, Nickel, and Cobalt Alloys The requirements shown in Table 3 apply only to corrosion and heat-resistant steels and iron, nickel, and cobalt alloys which attain specified strength through cold working or hot-cold working without subsequent heat treatment other than stress-relieving. TABLE 3 -

    30、the welded area are not lower than the minimum requirements of the material specification or of the drawing. 3.3.2 Hardness Shall be as specified in the applicable material specification or on the part drawing, determined in accordance with ASTM E 10, ASTM E 18, or ASTM E 103. 3.3.3 Susceptibility t

    31、o Intergranular Attack If there is a requirement imposed in the parent metal specification, that requirement shall also apply to flash welded rings made from that material. 3.4 Quality 3.4.1 Rings, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and, condition, sound, and free from foreign mat

    32、erials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the rings. 3.4.2 Rings shall be subjected to nondestructive testing. Method of testing and standards for acceptance shall be as agreed upon by purchaser and vendor. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The vendor of r

    33、ings shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the rings conform to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests

    34、4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Proof testing (3.2.5), tensile testing (3.3.1), hardness (3.3.2), susceptibility to intergranular attack, when specified (3.3.3), and nondestructive testing (3.4.2) are acceptance tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initial shipment of rings to a purchaser, on each

    35、 heat or lot as applicable, when a change in material and/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.4.3, and when purchaser deems confirmatory testing to be required. 4.2.2 Periodic Test Grain flow (3.2.1) is a periodic test to be performed at a frequency selected by the supplier unless otherwise sp

    36、ecified by the customer. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be in accordance with AMS2371. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS7490Q Page 5 of 6 4.4 Approval 4.4.1 Sample rings shall be approved by purchaser as in 4.4.2. 4.4.2 When a new vendor is being considered, new welding equipment is being placed in operation, s

    37、ettings on an existing machine are changed, or changes in joint size or shape are made, the welding procedure shall be approved in the following manner: One or more rings from the first shipment of each size ring shall be selected at random. The ring or rings shall be subjected to tensile tests, har

    38、dness determinations, and examination of structure. If requirements of 3.3.1 and 3.3.2 are met and the structure of the weld is satisfactory, the equipment and procedure shall be considered satisfactory for making the weld. 4.4.3 Vendor shall use the same size, type, and shape of stock, type of form

    39、ing equipment, heating cycles for forming and preheating, welding schedule (except that current settings may be changed by 10%), heating and cooling procedure and atmospheres for heat treatment, cleaning operations, and methods of inspection for production rings as for approved sample rings. If nece

    40、ssary to make any change in parameters for any of the above factors, vendor shall submit for reapproval a statement of the proposed changes in processing. Production rings incorporating the revised operations shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval. 4.5 Reports The vendor of welded rings

    41、 shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the results of tests for tensile properties and hardness of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, AMS7490Q, material specification number and its rev

    42、ision letter if any, contractor or other direct supplier of product, size or part number, heat number, and quantity. When product for making rings is produced or purchased by the ring vendor, that vendor shall inspect each lot of product to determine conformance to the requirements of the applicable

    43、 material specification and shall include in the report either a statement that the product conforms, or include copies of laboratory reports showing results of tests to determine conformance. 4.6 Resampling and Retesting Shall be in accordance with AMS2371. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Packaging

    44、 Rings shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the rings to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A vendor shall mention this sp

    45、ecification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Rings not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. NOTES 8.1 A change bar (|) located in the left margin is for th
