    6、 material (3.2.2), provisions for press solution heat treatment (3.2.3), and revises Sampling and Testing (4.3.1) and Reports (4.4). 1. SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of extruded bars, rods, wire, profiles, and tubing.1.1.1 TubingTubing shall be additionally cla

    7、ssified a follows:Type DescriptionI - Seamless tubing extruded from hollow billets using die and mandrelII - Tubing extruded from solid billets using porthole or spider die or similar toolingWhen no Type is specified, Type I shall apply.1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used typically for part

    8、s requiring moderate strength, especially where such parts require brazing or welding and where distortion during machining must be minimized, but usage is not limited to such applications.2. If no temper is specifed, Temper T4511 shall be supplied.3.2.1 Temper T4511Solution heat treated and stress relieved by stretching to produce a nominal permanent set of 1-1/2%, but not less than 1% nor more than 3%.3.2.1.1

    16、Extrusions may receive minor straightening, after stretching, of an amount necessary to meet the requirements of 3.5.3.2.1.2 Extrusions shall be supplied with the as-extruded surface finish; light polishing to remove minor surface imperfections is permissible provided such imperfections can be remov

    17、ed within specified dimensional tolerances.3.2.2 Temper T4510Solution heat treated and stress relieved by stretching to produce a nominal permanent set of 1-1/2%, but not less than 1% nor more that 3%.3.2.2.1 Extrusions shall receive no additional straightening or stretching to meet requirements of

    18、3.53.2.2.2 Extrusions shall be supplied with the as-extruded surface finish; light polishing to remove minor surface imperfections is permissible provided such imperfections can be removed within specified dimensionaltolerances.3.2.3 Heat Treatment shall be classified as follows:Class Description1 F

    19、urnace solution heat treated in accordance with AMS2772.2 Extruded and press solution heat treated in accordance with ASTM B807/B807M.If no Class is specified, either Class may be provided.3.2.43.3 PropertiesExtrusions shall conform to the following requirements, determined in accordance with AMS235

    24、ree from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the extrusions.3.4.1 When specified by purchaser, extrusions shall be subjected to ultrasonic inspection in accordance with ASTM B594. Standards for acceptance shall be as agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.3.5 TolerancesShal

    25、l conform to all applicable requirements of ANSI H35.2 or ANSI H35.2M.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of extrusions shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right t

    26、o sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the extrusions conform to specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), tensile properties (3.3.1.1 and 3.3.2.1), ultrasonic inspection (3.4.1) when specified, and tolerances

    27、 (3.5) are acceptance tests and, except for composition, shall be performed on each inspection lot.SAE AMS4172F Page 5 of 64.3 Sampling and TestingShall be in accordance with AMS2355.4.3.1 Additional Sampling and Testing of Material Press Solution Heat TreatedCompliance with the requirements of Tabl

    28、e 2 shall be determined by hardness tests followed by tension tests performed on samples from the two softest extrusions in the inspection lot. The method of hardness testing shall be left to the discretion of the producer.4.4 ReportsThe vendor of extrusions shall furnish with each shipment, a repor

    29、t stating that the extrusions conform to the chemical composition and tolerances, results of ultrasonic inspection (when specified) and stating that the product conforms to the other acceptance tests. This report shall include the purchase order number, inspection lot number, AMS4172F, size or secti

    30、on identification number, extrusion type, class of heat treatment, and quantity. The report shall also include the producer, the product form and the mill produced size.4.5 Resampling and RetestingShall be in accordance with AMS2355.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 IdentificationShall be in accordance

    31、 with ASTM B 666/B 666M.5.2 PackagingExtrusions shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with ASTM B 660 and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the extrusions to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery.6. ACKNOWLED

    32、GMENTA vendor shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7. REJECTIONSExtrusions not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection.8. NOTES8.1 A change bar (|)

Change bars and (R) are not used in original publications, nor in documents that contain editorial changes only.8.2 Hardness should be not lower than 55 HB/10/500 or 60 HB/10/1000, determined in accordance with ASTM E 10. Hardness has been used to verity that product is properly processed

    35、, but an “out-of-range hardness number” is not always indicative of product with “out-of-specification tensile strength”. Further analysis including material composition verification, heat treat process parameter review, and/or tensile property measurement on product with out-of-range hardness may b

    36、e necessary.SAE AMS4172F Page 6 of 68.3 Terms used in AMS are clarified in ARP1917.8.4 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are primary; dimensions and properties in SI units and the Celsius temperatures are shown as the approximate equivalents of the primary

    37、 units and are presented only for information.8.5 Purchase documents should specify not less than the following:AMS4172FForm and size or section identification number of extrusions desiredQuantity of extrusions desiredUltrasonic inspection acceptance standards, when specified (See 3.4.1).Whether Typ
