、15 National Electrical Manufacturers Association AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires verification by The American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI) that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by the

、 standards developer. An American National Standard implies a consensus of those substantially concerned with its scope and provisions. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly, and materially affected in

、terests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their resolution. The existence of an American National Standard does not in any respect pr

It is intended as a guide to aid the manufacturer, the consumer, and the general public. The American National Standar

Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards Insti

Their physical size may or may not comply with similarly rated IEC types. 2 Normative References The following standards contain provisions, which through reference in this text, const

、odes that are defined in the standards listed in Section 2, the following terms common to the industry are utilized in this standard. 3.1 MOL (Maximum Overall Length): Distance along the lamp axis from the base eyelet solder to the top of the bulb. 3.2 LCL (Light Center Length): Distance from the ba

、se eyelet solder to the center of the light-emitting filament of the lamp which is sometimes needed for luminaire design. 3.3 Class: A grouping of like lamps having the same rated wattage, bulb shape, base, MOL, and bulb finish, including two or more voltage ratings within a voltage range. Each line

、 item in Tables 1 and 2 is a class. 3.4 Voltage range: A series of rated voltages related to commonly available supply lines. Footnotes to Tables 1 and 2 list several common voltage ranges applying to classes of lamps in this standard. 3.5 Rated wattage: The wattage marked on the lamp. See IESNA LM-

、45 for measurement of lamp wattage. 3.6 Rated voltage: The voltage marked on the lamp. If lamps are marked with a voltage range, it shall be interpreted that they are appropriate for use on any line voltage within that range. Consult manufacturers catalog to determine design voltage. 3.7 Base temper

、ature rise: The surface temperature rise above ambient temperature of a standard test lampholder fitted to the lamp. Maximum base temperature rise limits apply to base-up burn position at which maximum rise occurs unless lamps are restricted to other burn positions by their manufacturers. See ANSI/I

、EC C78.60360 for method of measurement. 3.8 Service: The field of most common application for a given lighting source. Service as used in this standard is not necessarily the only application. 3.9 Group: A grouping of lamps of the same rated wattage whose rated voltages fall within the same voltage

、range (e.g.100 to 150V). 3.10 Type: Lamps identical in electrical and photometry ratings independent of base type. 3.11 Manufacturer: An organization making lamps within the scope of this standard at one or more nominated factories having a common quality management. 3.12 Production: The number of l

、amps, within the scope of this standard, manufactured in a factory within a 12-month period. 3.13 Total production: The number of lamps, within the scope of this standard, manufactured in all the nominated factories of a single manufacturer within a 12 month period. 3.14 Whole production: The produc

、tion of all types of lamps within the scope of this standard manufactured during a period of twelve months and named in a list by the manufacturer. 3.15 Inspection test quantity (I.T.Q.): The number of lamps to be tested with the intention of determining acceptability of the whole production as to d

、imensional requirements. 3.16 Rating test quantity (R.T.Q.): The number of lamps to be tested with the intention of determining acceptability, of the whole production, as related to initial readings. ANSI C78.20-2003 (R2007, R2015) Page 3 2015 National Electrical Manufacturers Association 3.17 Initi

、al readings: The electrical (wattage) measurements made at the end of the aging or seasoning period. 3.18 Test voltage: The rated voltage unless otherwise specified. If lamps are marked with a range voltage, the test voltage shall be taken as the mean of this range, unless otherwise specified. 3.19

、Lumen maintenance: The ratio of luminous flux at 70% of rated life to the initial luminous flux, expressed as a percentage. 3.20 Qualifying limit (QL): The maximum of non-confirming lamps allowed within a given test quantity to establish compliance of the requirement being tested. 4 Lamp Designation

、s This standard does not place any control over lamp designations. Incandescent lamps are generally designated by wattage, bulb type, and voltage ratings. The lamp manufacturer may apply additional codes. See the lamp manufacturers catalogs for detailed information. 5 Bulb Designations Bulb designat

、ions used in this standard are defined in ANSI C79.1. Since the traditional eighth-inch sizes have long been utilized in some lamp designations, they are used in this standard. Their metric equivalents are shown in parentheses. 6 Bulb Finish Only lamps with clear, inside frost, frost-equivalent, or

、translucent white bulb finishes are considered in this standard. However, it should not be interpreted that each of these finishes is available for each class listed in Part II. Silver bowl, enamel, transparent, and other special coatings are not covered by this standard. 7 Lamp Space Drawings For e

、ach bulb, base, and MOL category, lamp space drawings in Part III of this standard show the maximum limits of the space that may be occupied by any part of the bulb. A typical bulb shape is shown, as a dashed line, within that maximum space. The space shown shall accommodate the longest and shortest lamps with maximum bowl and neck diameters, and maximum bulb eccentricity. These drawings were prepared according to the lamp space drawing procedures in ANSI C78.30. The f
