ANSI C136.14-2014 2014 National Electrical Manufacturers Association i AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires verification by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval ha

、ve been met by the standards developer. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanim

、ity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their resolution. The use of American National Standards is completely voluntary; their existence does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether he has approved the standard or not, from

、 manufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not conforming to the standards. The American National Standards Institute does not develop standards and will in no circumstances give an interpretation of any American National Standard. Moreover, no person shall ha

、ve the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards Institute. Requests for interpretations should be addressed to the secretariat or sponsor whose name appears on the title page of this standard. CAUTION NOTICE: This A

、merican National Standard may be revised or withdrawn at any time. The procedures of the American National Standards Institute require that action be taken to reaffirm, revise, or withdraw this standard no later than five years from the date of approval. 27、sociation ANSI C136.14-2014 2014 National Electrical Manufacturers Association 1 1 Scope This standard covers dimensional, maintenance and light distribution features that permit the interchange of enclosed side-mounted luminaires for horizontal-burning high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps and other

、 light sources used in roadway and area lighting equipment. This type of luminaire has traditionally been used for street or roadway lighting and has commonly been referred to as cobrahead-style luminaires. Luminaires of similar size, shape, and weight meeting the requirements of this standard may b

、e used interchangeably within a system with assurance that: a) They will fit the bracket arm. b) Pole strength requirements will not change. c) Light distribution will be similar. d) Similar maintenance procedures can be used. Historically, luminaires covered by this standard are elliptical in shape

、 with lenses that meet the requirements of ANSI C136.17. Luminaires other than HID may have a different unique shape as long as they meet the requirements listed above. Excluded from this standard are luminaires having rectilinear and round shapes. 2 Normative References This standard is intended fo

、tween an External Locking Type Photocontrol and Ballast or Driver ANSI/IESNA RP8-00, National Standard Practice for Roadway Lighting 3 Mounting Provisions Luminaires meeting the requirements of this standard shall: a) Accept a straight tubular section of pipe tenon in accordance with Table 2 of ANSI

、 C136.3 and section 7 of ANSI C136.13. b) Provide a shoulder or stop to limit the depth of insertion of the pipe tenon during installation. c) Permit leveling through no less than 3 degrees from the axis of the attachment. d) Prevent the entrance of wildlife by limiting openings around the pipe teno

、n mounting area to in. (6.35 mm) over the range of tenon sizes and leveling adjustment. This may be accomplished by the use of supplemental closures. e) Provide a suitable means to secure the luminaire to the pipe tenon. Consideration must be given to possible reduction in attachment strength due to

、 cold flow of materials, vibration, or other conditions. 4 Terminal Blocks A closed-back, fully insulated terminal block with a minimum of two line-side pressure-type wire connectors having slotted-head captive screws shall be securely mounted in the luminaire, so that incoming conductors will clear

、 all internal accessories. Each connector shall accept only one conductor (either solid or stranded), from 14 American Wire Gauge (AWG) to 6 AWG copper/aluminum. 5 Wiring and Grounding All internal components shall be assembled and pre-wired, so the luminaire can be energized by line connections at

、the terminal block. Internal luminaire conductors shall have insulation rated to exceed the maximum temperature inside. A means shall be provided for grounding the noncurrent-carrying metal parts of the luminaire. All wiring and electrical components (including the photocontrol receptacle), shall no

、t exceed their temperature design limits when the luminaire is operated. This includes draft-free air across the luminaire operating temperature or as otherwise specified. ANSI C136.14-2014 2014 National Electrical Manufacturers Association 3 6 Latching and Hinging The luminaire shall be equipped wi

、th a latch to secure the refractor or access door and to permit access to the luminaire. The latch shall be operable with protective gloves but without tools. The hinge shall be designed so that the access door will not accidentally disengage or cause any component to break when it is unlatched with

、out restraint. 7 Voltage Classification The luminaire shall be of the 600 V classification as defined in ANSI C136.2. 8 Socket When required, the luminaires shall be equipped with either a medium-base or mogul socket that meets requirements of ANSI C136.11. 9 Refractor or Lens Replacement If a refra

、ctor or lens is required, it shall be secured by one or more movable supports so that it remains securely in place with the access door open and may be removed from the door while it is open. The refractor or lens shall be removable without tools or with a blade-type screwdriver. The refractor shall

、 meet the requirements of ANSI C136.17. 10 Optical Assembly The optical assembly shall be effectively sealed by conforming gaskets to minimize the entrance of atmospheric contaminates. If a gasket is utilized, it shall remain securely attached to the intended surface while the luminaire is being ope

、ned. The design of the reflector, when required, shall permit operation of the lamp in accordance with ANSI C78.40 and Series C78.1300. 11 Ingress Protection The optical assembly or compartment shall be protected to a minimum rating of IP54 per ANSI C136.25. The electrical assembly or electrical compartment shall be rated a minimum of IP33 unless the individual internal electronic components are sealed to at least IP33 (or damp location). Drain holes, located exclusively under the luminaire, are excluded from the IP3x dust and particles requirements. Lumi
