ANSI C136.11-2011(R2016) Page i AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires verification by The American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI) that the requirements for due process, consensus, and oth

、er criteria for approval have been met by the standards developer. An American National Standard implies a consensus of those substantially concerned with its scope and provisions. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been re

、ached by directly, and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their resolution. The existence of an American

、 National Standard does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether s/he has approved the standard or not, from manufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not conforming to the standards. It is intended as a guide to aid the manufacturer, the consumer, and the

、general public. The American National Standards Institute, Inc., does not develop standards and will in no circumstances give an interpretation of any American National Standard. Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the

CAUTION NOTICE: This American National Standard may be revised or withdrawn at any time. The procedures of the American Nation

、ded to prevent accidental contact with metal parts during their installation, removal, or adjustment. 6.2 Lamp insertion Sockets shall be designed so as to allow full insertion of all lamps that meet the requirements given in the ANSI C78 Series. 6.3 Insertion and removal torquemogul Sockets shall b

、e designed so as to maintain contact pressure and retain the lamp without loosening under normal conditions of vibration. The torque required to insert and remove mogul-base lamps shall be in accordance with Table 1. The torque test shall be performed in the sequence given on Standard Sheet 2-210-1

、of ANSI C81.62 and with the gauges given on Standard Sheets 3-212-1 and 3-213 of ANSI C81.63. 34、Torque values are taken from Standard Sheet 2-210-1 of ANSI C81.62. 6.4 Insert and removal torquemedium Currently, there are no insertion and removal torque requirements for medium-base sockets in ANSI C81.62. 7 Screw shells 7.1 Conformance Socket screw shells shall be in conformance with the applic

、able portions of ANSI C81.62 and its supplements, except that threads may be deformed, cut, or partially replaced by springs to meet the removal torque requirements of clause 6.3. The screw-shell height and center contact placement shall be such as to ensure proper electrical contact with lamp bases

、 meeting the requirements of ANSI C81.62 and ANSI C81.63 and their supplements. 7.2 Metal parts Socket screw shells and other lamp-gripping metal parts shall be of copper or copper alloy and shall be plated with nickel or an equivalent corrosion-resistant metal. All other socket parts shall also be

、plated with nickel or an equivalent corrosion-resistant metal. 8 Terminals and leads Socket terminals or permanently mounted leads shall be provided in accordance with the following: a) Terminals for line connections shall be suitable for both copper and aluminum conductors from 14 AWG to 6 AWG, eit

、her solid or stranded. ANSI C136.11-2011(R2016) Page 3 2017 National Electrical Manufacturers Association b) Terminals, leads, and associated insulation for internal luminaire wiring (with a separate terminal block provided for line connections) shall be adequate for the wattage rating of the socket

、. 9 Operating temperature The socket shall be capable of operating continuously when heated by a lamp whose operating base temperature is 210C for mogul sockets or 190C for medium sockets if electrical porcelain or other ceramic material is used. Other socket skirt materials may be used only if the

、operating temperature in the luminaire does not exceed the thermal limits of the material. 10 Insulating material Sockets shall include a body of porcelain or other suitable insulating material that encloses the sides and bottom of the screw shell sufficiently to meet the requirements of clause 6.1

、and that extends beyond the depressed center contact in accordance with Table 2. Table 2 Distance insulation is to extend beyond the depressed center contact Type of socket Minimum distance in inches (mm) Mogul 1-5/8 (41.3) Medium 15/16 (23.8) 11 Alignment Sockets shall be so designed that a deviati

、on from the lamp base axis in any direction from the centerline (measured perpendicular to the socket mounting surface) will not exceed 3 degrees. The deviation shall be checked in all directions immediately after applying and slowly releasing a minimum moment load of 100 lbs.-in. (11.3 N-m) to a fu

、lly inserted lamp-base screw-shell gauge meeting the requirements of ANSI C81.63 and its supplements. 12 Fatigue tests Sockets shall be so designed that, when used in conjunction with the maximum weight lamp (or dummy lamp) for which they are intended and when subjected to a 1 G (9.8 m-s2) vibration

、 stress in all planes, the material used in the socket construction shall not exceed the fatigue limit stress values for those materials as determined by ASTM E1823. Fatigue tests shall be run at or below the resonant frequency of the socket and lamp (or dummy lamp), but the frequency shall not exceed 25 Hz.
