、ge i 2016 National Electrical Manufacturers Association AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires verification by The American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI) that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met

、 by the standards developer. An American National Standard implies a consensus of those substantially concerned with its scope and provisions. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly, and materially affe

、cted interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their resolution. The existence of an American National Standard does not in any res

、the bulb and base temperatures of metal halide lamps shall be made in accordance with ANSI C78.389. 5 Lamp Specifications Lamps must meet the requirements contained within ANSI C78.62035 as well as the specifications contained in this standard. 5.1 Lamp Designations and Descriptions 5.1.1 Lamp Desig

、nations Metal halide designations are assigned in accordance with ANSI C78.380. Note that the number (two or three digits) following the first upper case letter in the designation, indicates a unique set of electrical characteristics. Following the lamp number is a slash followed by a luminaire char

、acteristic letter. Operating position limitations are indicated on the lamp marking. 5.1.2 Bulb Designation Bulb designations are defined in ANSI C78.79. Due to the long-term use of the conventional method of designation, its use will continue in this standard with the metric designation in parenthe

、sis. Note that the bulb sizes listed on the lamp data sheets are intended to correspond with the common sizes listed in ANSI C78.79. The “nominal bulb diameter“ shown on the lamp data sheets indicates the nominal dimension in SI units, with the metric equivalent in parentheses. The bulb designation

、may not correspond directly with the actual nominal dimension. 5.1.3 Lamp Drawings Lamp drawings show the locations of the dimensions that appear on the lamp data sheets. 5.1.4 Base Specifications Requirements for electrical lamp bases are specified in ANSI C81.61. 5.2 Lamp Physical Characteristics

、5.2.1 Physical and Dimensional Requirements Lamps shall satisfy the requirements on the relevant lamp data sheet. The critical lamp dimensions are given in SI units, with equivalent inches in parentheses. ANSI C78.44-2016 Page 4 2016 National Electrical Manufacturers Association 5.2.2 Luminaire and

、Temperature Requirements The luminaire characteristic (open, enclosed), maximum permissible bulb temperature, and maximum permissible base temperature for each lamp type is listed in the individual lamp data sheets. Concerning the maximum temperature limits for the lamp bulb and base, note that luminaire design must be such that these maximum temperatures are not exceeded. 5.3 Operating Requirements at 100 Hours The lamp o
