    4、 UG-S/U, Panel Jack U accept- ance of these materials will be based upon specific advance approval of the bureau or agency concerned, and on satisfactory con- formance with the test requirements speci- fied herein. The contractors request for ap- proval shall be accompanied by shop draw- ings or dra

    5、wings clearly showing the use of the material 3.3.2 Electronic rnateriaL-Al1 parts used in the construction -of this equipment shall be selected and applied in accordance with Specification 16E7, except that high grade commercial equivalents may be substituted for preferred parts if preferred parts

    6、are unavailable, providing authorization is made by the bureau or agency concerned, or except as otherwise specified herein. No parts shall be used which require special selection from commercial production runs in order to meet equipment requirements. 3.3.2.1 Subassemblies. - Electronic parts shall

    7、 be grouped into subassemblies accord- ing to function. Subject to the approval s% the bureau or agency concerned, parts shal-ll be embedded to the extent practical, and ar- ranged to plug into the unit whwe practlcaL Construction ahall be such that ehanging pasts or subassemblies cam be accomplishe

    8、d without special tools. JAN approved electron tubes of the mme type shall be in the units to the extent practical. Where tubes are nt embedded, they shall be secured in such a way that they can be removed and replaced without disturbing other circuit wking or damaging insulation on wiring, terminfi

    9、l MIL-R-15213F strips, etc. Wiring shall be color coded a8 r- quired by Specification 16E7. 3.3.2.2 Treatmmt of parta. - Electronic circuits, parts, and insulation shall be treated in accordance with Spwifcations JAN-T-162 and MIL-V-173 to withstand high humidity conditions and fungus when the housi

    10、ng case is open for repairs. (See 3.3.2.1.) 3.3.3 Decontamination.-Parts subject t0 contamination shall be readily capable of decontamination without recourse to labora- tory methods or techniques. The radiacmeter housing shall have a smooth surface and pre- sent a minimum of crevices and sharp edge

    11、s. Rubber or felt feet will not be permitted on the case. All indication marking scales en- graved on the case shall be smooth, but plainly marked with a nonporous paint of contrasting color. 3.3.4 Corrosion. - All hakware auch as control knobs, screwdriver adjustments, screws, fastenings and pina s

    12、hall be con- structed of corrosion-resistant materid, or shall be treated to prevent corrosion during the life of the equipment in accordance with Specification 16E4. 3.4 Equipment composition.-The radiac- meter shall be equipped with an integral form fitting handle and a shoulder harness for ease i

    13、n handlhg. A counter tube GM type, radiac detector shall be carried in a well in a vertical position within the radam meter housing when not i9 use or when Bur- ueying gamma radiation alone. A lightweight carrying case shall be provided for housing Radiac Set AN/PDR-27( ) spare batteries, spare tubes-1 each of Navy

    17、 types 5979/BS-1, 5980/BS-2, and JAN type 6962 tubes, head- phones, radioactive test sample, carrying harness, special tools, instruction book, and miscellaneous charts. 3.4.1 RadZacmeter.-The radiacmeter shall (a) Stable electronic pulse rate com- puter and integrating circuit employing subminiatur

    18、e tubes where practicable. (b) !lho high sensitive radiac counter tubes. One to be installed in the radiac detector probe (see 3.5) and the other, as a spare in the carrying case (see 3.15). (c) 93-10 medium sensitive counter tubes. One to be installed within the radiac detector-computer-in- dicator

    19、 (see 3.5) and the other, as a spare in the carrying case (see 8.15). (d) Tmo corona type voltage regulator tubes. Qne to be installed in the the radiac-detector-computer-in- dicator (see 3.5) and the other, as a spare in the carrying case (see 3.15). (e) One multi-range miniaturized iiidi- eating m

    20、eter auembly (Navy tyge C-22734). (f) One combined “Off”, “Batt”, and meter range selector switch as- sembly. (8) Qne headphone connection and dust-tight cover. (9) Light switch in handle for night illumination. 3.5 Radiac detector-computer-indicator.- The pulse shaper, integrating circuit, and medium sensitive counter tube, the multi- range meter assemb

    23、ly; and the high voltage power supply shall be assembled on a light- weight metal chassis as a removable sub- assembly which shall be designed for mount- ing within the case housing. Should this as- sembly and the top panel containing the battery case or compartment be detachable, an electrical conn

    24、ection from the unit to the battery case shall be a cable permanently connected to the battery case through a watertight multi-terminal feed through in- sulator, of a type approved by the bureau or agency concerned, and connected to the main chassis through a plug and jack assembly. Length of cable

    25、shall be such that the main chassis may be removed and set on a work bench to facilitate “power-on” testing. 3.5.1 Radiac detector-contecator c.ircuit.-The radiac detector-computer-indi- cator circuit shall consist of a stable elec- tronic pulse rate computer and integrating circuit, using subminiat

    26、ure tubes and parts where practicable, The circuit shall accept pulses produced by the radiac detector, and utilize these pulses to produce an indication of a 50-microampere meter that is propor- tional to the rate of arrival of these pulses, but independent of their amplitude and dura- tion. When t

    28、s shall be required for the meter pointer to reach 90 percent of true indication. 3.5.1.1 Since a different detector is to be used on ranges 3 and 4 than on ranges 5 and 6 (see 3.6.1), the computer circuit shall be designed to accommodate the difference in detector characteristics. 3.5.2 Noise.-No r

    29、esidual noise or spurious counts shall be introduced by any of the electronic circuitry other than those result- ing from range selector switch operation. This zero background may be accomplished by proper care in design, construction, and selection of parts. 3.5.3 Counter tubes.-The counter tubes f

    30、or use in Radiac Set AN/PDR-27( ) shall be Navy approved types 5979/BS-1 and 5980/BS-2 (see 3.5.3.1). Two Geiger tubes shall be supplied for each set, one tube of high sensitivity, type 5979/BS-1, for use in meter ranges (04.5) milli-roentgen per hour and (0-5.0) miili-roentgen per hour, and one tub

    31、e, type 5980/BS-2, of medium sensitivity for use with meter ranges (0-50) milli-roentgen per hour and (0-500) milli-roentgen per hour. 3.5.3.1 The requirements for Navy types 5979/BS-1 and 6980/BS-2 counter tubes and JAN corona type 5962 regulator tube dl be supplied upon request to the bureau or ag

    32、ency concerned. 3.5.4 Counter tube shields (5979/BS-6 tube). - The Navy type 5979/BS-l tube shall be completely shielded by a 0.005-inch lead shield which shall be fastened to the radiac detector probe (see 3.8) in a manner approved by the bureau or agency concerned. 3.5.5 Coufiter tube shield , (59

    33、80/BS-2 tube).-The Navy type 5980/BS-2 tube ca- thode shall be completely shielded by a 0.008- inch lead shield which shall be mounted on st -:. 0.008-inch phosphor bronze clip in a manner approved by the bureau or agency concerned. The shield shall not interfere with access to the 5980/BS-Z tube in

    34、 any way. . 3.5.6 High voltage power supplg.-The high voltage power supply shall employ circuits of latest designs. 3.5.7 Output voltage.-The high voltage power supply shall be capable of supplying a sufficient output current to operate a type 5962 regulator tube (see 3.6.3.1). The actual voltage ap

    35、plied to the counter tubes shall be determined and controlled by the corona type voltage regulator. 3.5.8 Power comnaption.-i?ie high volt- age power supply shaii be designed to operate on the lowest practicable “A” and “B” bat- tery current. 3.5.9 High voltage regulator.-The high vol-tage power sup

    36、ply shall be electrically and mechanically designed for use of the corona type 5962 voltage regulator tube. 3.6 Meter aseembly.-The multi-range meter assembly shall be mounted beneath the top section of the watertight housing for the detector-computer-indicator. The meter assembly shall consist of a

    37、 sensitive-eh.i. The switch shaft shall be mechanically coupled to the colored scale assembIy to shift the proper coIored meter scale into position under the meter pointer 8s the intensity range is oelectod. 3.7.1 Switch positions.-The following or- der of switch positions shall be used: 3.7.1.1 Pos

    38、itzon I,-“Off” position (white). Maximum counterclockwise position. The switch shall open at least the minimum num- ber of circuits that will insure no current drain from the batteries. 3.7.1.2 Position R.-“Battery Condition”. The switch shall connect the meter into the 6 - circuit in such a say as

    39、to indicate the condi- tion of the batteries under load. The mark “BATT” located on the meter scale shall be used and indicates “end point” limits of the batteries. 3.7.1.3 Position 8.-The (MOO) milli- roentgens per hour, yellow (M-5Y-8/12) scale shall be in view on the dial. IR this posi- tion the

    40、circuitry is such that the 6980/ BS-2, GM tube is in use as the radiac de- tector. 3.7.1.4 Position (c) balance point of the instrument to occur at the center point of the handle. The metai or plastic used shall be as light as practicable consistent with the strength re- quired. All surfaces shall b

    41、e as smooth as practicable with a minimum number of crev- ices to collect contaminated material. 3.15 Carrying -.-Each Radiac Set AN/ PDR-27( ) shalI be provided with a light- weight caw designed to house (a) the radiac- meter, (b) one Headset H-48/U, (e) one set of spare batteries, (a) one radioact

    42、ive test sampIe, (e) one each 5962, 6979/Bs-1 and 6980/3s-2 tubes (6979/BS- counter tube clipshock mounted unpacked), (f) the shod- der harness, (g) special tools and (h) miswl- laneous charts. A handie or handles shall be provided for convenience in carrying which shall not interfere with vertical

    43、stacking. The surfaces of the carrying case shall be as smooth as practicable with a minimum num- -ber of crevices to collect contaminated ma- terial, The carrying case shall be finished in accordance with Specifcation 16334. Finish coats shall be in accordance with type III, class I of Specificatio

    44、n 3IL-E-16090. Space shall be provided to contain the equipment maintenance parts.     46、to determine con- formance with the eqiupment requirements, including stability, calibration (see 3,19), ac- curacy (see 3,20), and operating life (min- imum 40 hours). 4.2.3 Safety.-The equipment shall be checked to, determine compliance with the safety requiremenb of Specification 16E4. 4.2.4 Cont

    47、rols.-Equipment shall be tested to determine the suitability of controls for satisfactory operation and to determine that no objectionable mechanical or electrical noises are produced by manipulation of the controls.
