Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Fi
18、rst article. When specified in the contract or purchase order, a sample of bellows actuators shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.4 and 6.3) 3.2 Materials. All materials used in the manufacture of the initiators shall conform to the specifications referred to on the respective drawi
19、ngs unless specific approval in writing covering a departure therefrom has been obtained from the cognizant Navy design activity prior to manufacture. When alternate materials or methods of manufacture are specified on the drawings, the bidders selections shall be clearly stated in the proposal. 3.3
20、 Primary components. For the purpose of this specification, the delay element (Drawing 11738753) and the M104 Propellant Actuated Initiator (Drawing 10551446) are defined as primary components. Only primary components from a single lot shall be used in a production lot of initiators. One primary com
21、ponent production lot may be used in more than one initiator production lot. 3.4 Ignition device. The ignition device shall conform to the applicable drawing and referenced specification. Prior to assembly into a retainer, the ignition device shall be visually examined and X-rayed. 3.4.1 Sensitivity
22、 test. The PVU-1/A Ignition Device, when assembled and crimped into an ignition device retainer, part no. 11731620, shall fire when drop tested at an energy level of 26.0 inch ounces and shall not fire when drop tested at an energy level of 4.0 inch ounces. 3.5 Breakaway torque. Each threaded joint
23、of the assembled initiator shall withstand a breakaway torque application of 400 inch pounds without loosening or deformation using the procedure of 4.5.3. 3.6 Residual magnetism. The initiator shall not deflect the indicator of the compass more than five degrees in either direction using the proced

Initiators loaded with accepted pyrotechnic components (II-A pellets, PVU-1/A Ignition Device, and delay element) and temperature co

The initiator shall be fired by a source delivering an output energy equal to that of an M3A2 Initiator at the end of 15 feet of aircraft hose, size no. 4 in accordance with MS28741 at 70 5F. 3.7.2 No-fire. The initiator shall not fail to fire. 3.7.3 Mechanical failure.
27、 The initiator shall function without mechanical failure (see 6.2). 3.8 Leak rate. The assembled initiator, less the firing mechanism assembly (part no. 11731492) and the mounting bracket (part no. 11731624), shall withstand a 14 psi internal-external pressure differential with a maximum permissible
28、 leak rate of 1 x 105 cubic centimeters per second. 3.9 Workmanship. Workmanship shall be as specified on the applicable drawings, referenced specifications, and the following: 3.9.1 Metal defects. All components shall be free from cracks, splits, cold shuts, inclusions, porosity, or any other metal
29、 defect. 3.9.2 Burr. No part shall have a burr which might interfere with the assembly or function of the item or which might be injurious to personnel handling the item. 3.9.3 Foreign matter. No part or assembly shall contain chips, dirt, grease, oil, rust, corrosion, or other foreign matter. 3.10
30、Mechanical properties. Mechanical properties required by the drawing shall be uniform throughout the part within specified tolerances. 3.11 Shear pin strength. The shear pin, after application of protective finish, shall shear when a load of 41 5 pounds is applied at the steady rate of 0.125 inch pe

Protective finish shall be in accordance with the applicable specifications and drawings and shall apply to all surfaces of the component regardle
32、ss of contour. 3.13 Radiographic examination. Each ignition devic e assembly, retainer, each retainer and ignition device assembly, and each initiator assembly shall be radiographically examined for defects as specified in 4.4.3.8. 4. VERIFICATION 4.1 Classification of inspections. a. First article
33、inspection (see 4.3) b. Conformance inspection (see 4.4) 4.2 Inspection conditions. Inspections shall be in accordance with MIL-A-2550. 4.3 First article sample. 4.3.1 Initial production sample. At the beginning of regular production, a sample shall be submitted in accordance with contract requireme
34、nts and shall consist of 21 assembled initiators for ballistic tests, a quantity of ignition devices in accordance with 4.3.2 assembled and crimped into the retainer, 9 sets of unassembled components, one set of unplated components and 50 shear pins from the same lot of shear pins tested by the cont
35、ractor. The sample shall be subjected to the tests of 4.4.3. Test procedures shall be in accordance with 4.5. The sample shall be manufactured using the same materials, equipment, processes, and procedures as used in regular production. All parts and materials, including packaging and packing, shall
36、 be the same as used for regular production and shall be obtained from the same source of supply. 4.3.1.1 Submission. First article samples and ballistic acceptance test samples of ballistic assemblies shall be in accordance with their applicable specification. 4.3.1.2 Examinations and tests. After
37、examination and provisional acceptance at the source, the sample shall be inspected for all requirements of the drawings and specifications at a Government laboratory or such other facility specified in the contract. 4.3.1.3 Initial production failure. Failure of the sample to comply with the requir
38、ements of the drawings and specifications shall result in sample disapproval. 4.3.2 Sample size for sensitivity tests. The number of ignition devices, when assembled and crimped into the retainer, submitted for ignition device sensitivity tests shall be in accordance with table II. 4.4 Inspection pr

Unless otherwise specified by the contracting activity, formation and identification of lots shall be in accordance with ANSI/AS

A lot shall consist of an identifiable
41、group of assembled units containing metal parts assemblies produced by a homogeneous process and loaded with acceptable explosive and pyrotechnic components. 4.4.2 Examination. One hundred percent examination shall be performed for all critical defects. Examination for major and minor defects shall
42、be performed in accordance with the classification of defects. Four power (4x) magnification may be used for inspection of such defects as burrs and foreign matter. When compliance with the applicable requirement is in doubt as a result of visual examination, the characteristic shall be measured or
