2、tments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for blue or white boat cloths fabricated from wool broadcloth or cotton twill, as applicable. 1.2 Classification. The boat cloths shall be of one type with black stripes and in the follow
3、ing classes and styles. Class 1 - Blue Cloth Class 2 - White Cloth Style A - For Fleet Admiral Style B - For Admirals Style C - For Vice-Admirals Style D - For Rear Admirals Style E - For Commodores Style F - For Commanding Officers Style G - For Wardroom Officers 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Governm

8、edence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document shall take precedence. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1. Guide sampl. Samples, when furnished, are solely for guidance and information to the contractor (see 6.3). Variation from this s
9、pecification may appear in the sample, in which case this specification shall govern. 3.2. First article. When specified, the contractor shall furnish sample boat cloths for first article inspection and approval (see 4.3 and 6.2.). 3.3 Materials. 3.3.1 Cloth, Blue. The basic cloth for the class 1 bo
10、at cloth shall be shade Blue 3346 wool broadcloth conforming to Type I, class 1, 3 or 5 of MIL-C-82252. As an alternate a shade Blue 3346 wool melton conforming to Type I, class 2 of MIL-C-16290 may be used. 3.3.2 Cloth, White. The basic cloth for the class 2 boat cloth shall be shade White 3006 cot
11、ton twill conforming to Type III or IV of CCC-C-461. As an alternate a shade White 3053, polyester and cotton twill conforming to class 2 of MIL-C-29127 may be used. 3.3.3. Braid, Textile (flat). The material used for the stripes on the class 1 boat cloth shall be mohair, dyed black conforming to ty
12、pe I, class 3 - of MIL-B-593. The widths shall be 1 inch and 2-1/2 inches. flat textile braid conforming to requirements stated in 3.3.3.1 may be used. As an alternate a 3.3.3.1 Braid, Textile (flat) Alternate. As an alternate to the braid used on the class 1 boat cloth and cotton tape used on the c

The cotton
14、 tape used for the stripe on the class 2 boat cloth shall be black, conforming to type III, class 3 of DDD-T-86 except that the widths shall be 1 inch and 2 1/2 inch. The total warp yarns for the 2 1/2 inch tape shall be 164. As an alternate a flat textile braid conforming to the requirements stated
15、 in 3.3.3.1 may be used. 3.3.5 Thread. 3.3.5.1 Thread, Polyester, Covered. The thread used for stitching the class 1 boat cloth and braid shall be black AA, CA 66043. The thread for stitching class 2 boat cloth shall be white AH, CA 66050 and for stitching the tape or braid the thread shall be black
16、 AA, CA 66043. The above threads shall conform to ticket Nos. 24 through 70, 2 or 3 ply of MIL-T-43548. As an alternate to the polyester covered thread, a cotton thread conforming to type lA3 or 1A2, ticket Nos. 20 through 70 (minimum 33g/Km), 3 ply of V-T-276, in respective color may be used. 3.4 D
17、esign. The boat cloth shall have a black stripe on a blue or white background as applicable. The class 1 boat cloth shall have a blue background and the class 2 boat cloth shall have a white background. The type and arrangement of the stripes shall be as specified in 3.6 and figure 1. 3.4.1 Figure.
18、Figure 1 is furnished for information purposes only. To the extent of any inconsistencies between the written specification and the figure, the written specification shall govern. 3.5 Stitches, seams and stitching. The stitch, seam and stitching types for the boat cloths shall conform to FED-STD-751
19、. Stitch type 301 shall be used with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 14 stitches per inch. 3.501 Seams. The finished boat cloths shall contain one overlap seam. The seam type shall be LSa-2 with a 1/2 to 9/16 inch gauge, each row being 1/16 inch from each edge. The seam shall be parallel with the w
20、arp direction of the fabric. The seam for the blue boat cloth may contain either selvage or cut edges and shall be a minimum of 13 inches from and parallel to one edge. The seam for the white boat cloth shall contain only selvage edges and be 36 (2 1) inches from and parallel to one edge. 3.5.2 Stri
21、pes. The stripes shall be made with the braid or tape as applicable. The braid or tape shall be of one piece and shall be sewn to the background material using seam type LSa-1 (each edge) with each row of stitching approximately 1/16 inch from the edge. Each stripe shall start and end at the same co
22、rner and the ends of the stripe shall be concealed within the folded corner. 23、 72 m 7777906 0238765 7 m MIL-B-287 3D (NU) 3.5.3 Border. A finished border of 3 (+1/4) inches shall be left beyond the outside edge of the braid or tape. Thecloths shall have a 1/2 to 5/8 inch turned under hem around the entire periphery. The hem for the blue boat cloth shall be made with stitching
24、 type EFa-1 with the line of stitching approximately 1/16 inch from the raw edge. The hem for the white boat cloth shall be made with stitching type EFb-1 with the line of stitching approximately 1/16 inch from the folded edge. 3.5.4 Thread breaks and ends of seams. Ends of all seams and stitchings
25、when not caught in other seams or stitching shall be backtacked not less than 3/8 inch. Thread breaks shall be repaired by stitching not less than 1/2 inch at each end of the break. 3.6 Manufacturing operations requirements. The boat cloths shall be manufactured using the stitches, seams and stitchi
26、ngs as specified in 3.5. The number, widths and arrangement of the stripes shall be as specified in the following paragraphs. The arrangement of the stripes in the following paragraphs all commence at the left hand border. A - +3/32 inch tolerance is allowed between adjacent stripes. 3.6.1 Style A -
27、 Fleet Admiral. The cloths shall have three stripes, i.e., two stripes 2 1/2 inches wide and one stripe 1 inch wide between the two wide stripes, with a 1 inch wide space between the adjacent stripes (see figure i. 3.6.2 Style A - Fleet Admiral. The cloths shall have four stripes, i.e., one stripe 2
28、 1/2 inches wide and three stripes 1 inch wide respectively, with a 1 inch wide space between the adjacent stripes (see figure i.) 3.6.3 Style C - For Vice Admirals. The cloths shall have three stripes, i.e., one stripe 2 1/2 inch wide and two stripes 1 inch wide respectively, with a 1 inch wide spa
29、ce between the adjacent stripes (see figure 1). 3.6.4 Style D - For Rear Admirals. The cloths shall have two stripes, i.e., one stripe 2 1/2 inches wide and one stripe 1 inch wide, respectively, with a 1 inch wide space between the stripes (see figure 1). 3.6.5 Style E - For Commodores. The cloths s
30、hall have one stripe 2 1/2 inches wide (see figure i). 3.6.6 Style F - For Commanders and Captains. The cloths shall have three stripes for Commanders or four stripes for .Captains, each 1 inch wide, with a 3/4 inch wide space between the adjacent stripes (see figure 1). 3.6.7 Style G - For Wardroom
31、 Officers. The cloths shall have two stripes, each 1 inch wide with a 3/4 inch wide space between the stripes (see figure i). 3.7 Dimensions. The boat cloth shall be 72 ( 2/21 inches in length by 72 (51/2) inches in width. 3.8 Workmanship. The finished boat cloth shall conform to the quality of prod
32、uct established by this specification. QUALITY ASSURANCE
33、 PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as other wise specified in the contract, the contractor may utilize his own or any other facilities
34、suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform t
35、o prescribed requirements. 4.1.1 Certificate of compliance. Where certificates of compliance are submitted, the Government reserves the right to check test such items to determine the validity of the certification. 4.2 Classification of inspection. The inspection requirements specified herein are cl

Inspection shall be in accordance with the provisions set forth in MIL-STD-105, except where otherwise indicated herein. 4.4.1 Component and material inspection. In accordance with 4.1, components and materials shall be inspected and tested in accord
38、ance with all the requirements of referenced specifications, drawings, and standards unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified, or qualified in this specification or applicable purchase document. 4.4.2 Examination of the end item. Examination of the end item shall be in accordance with 4.4.2.1 an
39、d 4,4.2.2. The applicable inspection levels and acceptable quality levels (AQLs) shall be -as indicated- in 4.4.2.3.
