A degaussing coil system is a system consistingofcontrol equipment an one or more coils of electrical cable installed at spec

    27、ific locationson board ship for the purpose of reducing the ships d.c. magnetic siqnature, In operation,these coils are energized with d.c. so that the magnetic field produced is in oppositionto,and reduces, the magnetic field of the ship. Provision is made to vary the current throughthe coils in bo

    28、th magnitude and polarity.3.2.2 Magnetic treatment. Degaus.singby magnetic treatment is a method of altering,reducing, or removing the permanent magnetic field of a ship. This is accomplishedbytemporarily rigging coils of electrical cable externally around the ship and about the ship,including the s

    29、uperstructure where necessary, and energizing the coils with a sequence ofd.c. pulses of predetermined polarities and magnitudes. Dspermingm and “flashing”aretypes of treatment.(a) Deperming: The method of reducing the permanent magnetism of a ship byenergizing coils placed vertically around the shi

    30、p.(b) Flashing: The method of altering the permanent magnetism of a ship byenergizing coils placed horizontally around the ship.3.3 E ui ment.+ Equipment, as referred to in this section, comprises those shipbcardcomponents, equ pmenta, and systems whose performance may be degraded when subjected to

    31、amagnetic field environment as specified herein.4. REQUIREMENTS4.1 Requirements. The specific interface requirements and constraintsestablishedherein are mandatory and shall be adhered to by SYSCOMS, Project Managers, contractors,andall others engaged in any aspect of shipboard design to which these

    32、 requirementsandconstraints apply including equipment design, production, and installation (seesection 4Requirements”of DOD-STD-1399).5. INTERPACE CHARACTERISTICS AND CONSTRAINTS5.1 General considerations. The shipboard magnetic field environment Is the summationof the magines of force existing in o

    33、r about the ship. l%is field is not uniform andwill vary both in location and time. If this field is of sufficient magnitude in any giveninstance, it may have a degrading influence on the performance of equipment installedin oron the ship. Detailed knowledge of the exact installation location, as we

    34、ll as a forecastof future changes, would be involved if a determination of equipment suitabilitywere to bemade on other than general environmental expectations. Equipment should be so designedandbuilt that it will not be adversely affected even in the “worst case” situationwhich cannormally be expec

    35、ted. This situation will exist when the ship undergoee magnetictreatmentor operates with degaussing coils energized and is of a magnitude of 1600 A/m.5.2 Interface characteristics. The interfaoe characteristicsof the ships d.c.magnetic feld environment are described in 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 and may be exp

    37、those sources shall be judiciouslyaonaidered.5.3.2.3 Structuraldiacontinuities. Bulkheads or other steel structuralmembers(includingewlmnt) mzY act aa a return path for the magnetic flux lines, resulting in alocalizedconcentrationof the magnetic field. If there is a discontinuity (gape,openings,etc.

    38、) in this return path, Lncreased field values maY be experienced in the vicinity ofthe discontinuity.When equipmnt is to be installed in the near vicinity of such a dis-continuity,the possible degrading effect of the enhanued magnetic field environment shallbe taken into account.or o&;”%!rc;i=t;=?;c

ThisCertain surface ships and submarineswhich do not havetreatment is accomplishedat docknidet and does not necessarily require equipment to bein an operating etatus during such treatment. The eseential requirement is that the equip-ment operate aatimfactoril

    40、ywithin equipmenk apecifiaation requirementsin the preBence ofa residual field of 400 A/m after exposure to the magnetic treatment. In oertaincircumstances,therefore, it may not be practical or cost-effective to design specializedequipment to operate in the maximum expected field. In such caees, the

    41、 need to deviatefrom the requirementof 5.3.1 shall be fully justified (see 7.L).6. PERFORMANCE TESTING6.1 Requirement. When it is considered neaensary to determinw if an equipment (see3.3) will meet the criteria of this section, performance tests shall be conducted. Suchshipboard equipment shall be

    42、teBted by exposing it to both an ambient steady state magneticfield having a maximum magnitude of 1600 A/n and a magnetic field having a maximum rate ofchange of 1600 A/m par second. The minimum exposure to the steady state field shall be 5minutes. No particular orientation of the direction of the m

    43、agnetic field may be assumed.Equipment ehall be tested in operating condition and the equipment performanceevaluated inthe preeence of the test field. Requirements for testing individualequipments shall bespecified in the individualequipment specification.6.2 Test procedure. A square or circular coi

    44、l of electrical conductors large enoughto encircle equipment shall be provided (see appendix). In lieu of e sinqle coil,lielmholtzcoils may be used to satisfy the coil requirements. (Note: The criteria containedin the appendix are not applicable to the Helmholtz coils.) The coil shall contain enough

    45、ampere-turneto develop a magnetic field of 1600 A/m at the center of the coil when thecoil iB energized by a source of power.
