A turning or twisting force, usually expressed in foot-pounds, pound-feet, inch-pounds or Newton meters. 3.4 break torque: the torque required to initiate movement of the valve closure member (e.g., ball, disc, or plug) from closed to open position or open to close 3.4

    24、.1 starting torque: the torque at the beginning of the vanes rotation (opening or closing) 3.4.2 run torque: the lowest torque value available to continue movement of the actuator from one position to another. The below diagram is a typical torque curve of a double-acting vane actuator. ANSI/ISA-96.

    26、ne complete cycle of a single acting vane actuator 3.4.3 end of travel torque: the amount of output torque available at the end of stroke 3.5 sizing torques: torque values, supplied by valve manufacturer are maximums for the service conditions specified. The sizing torques are based upon a variety o

    27、f factors including, but not limited to, the following factors: service conditions (e.g., maximum differential shutoff pressure, fluid media, frequency of operation, etc.), valve type, valve seating type (soft seat or metal seat). Safety factors, supplied by user, shall be applied to these values re

    28、sulting in torques to be used for actuator selection. 3.6 seating torque: the maximum torque required to fully seat a valve, supplied by valve manufacturer 3.7 Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP): the pressure, below which an actuator will operate normally, producing torque according to the

    29、published tables and torque curves. Above this pressure and below the MAWP, the actuator may experience deformation of components which could lead to a shorter life and less efficient creation of torque. 3.8 Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP): the maximum pressure allowed at full stroke ANSI/

    30、ISA-96.03.03-2013 - - 14 - - 3.9 Maximum Allowable Stem Torque (MAST): the maximum allowable torque that can be applied to specific valve stem material prior to physical permanent damage 3.10 Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP): the maximum pressure that will be supplied to stroke an actuator (which mu

    31、st be compared to actuator MAOP) 4 Design requirements 4.1 General requirements The main components of a pneumatic vane type actuator are as follows: a) Vane and shaft b) Case halves c) Single seal or double opposed lip seals d) O-ring shaft seals if required by specific manufacturers design e) Vane

    32、 actuators should have adjustable travel position stops to limit travel (typically 10 degrees at each end for a total travel range between 80 and 100 degrees). Jam nuts or lock nuts shall be utilized to prevent accidental adjustment of the travel stops. f) Spring return cartridges shall be of a tota

    33、lly enclosed design utilizing a spring mechanism and should be packed with grease and sealed from atmosphere. Spring return models shall incorporate an inherently safe spring design that allows the actuator to be safely assembled and disassembled in the field (caution tags must be included to identi

    34、fy spring enclosed mechanism). g) Fail safe units may include accumulator tank and trip valves in lieu of springs. h) The actuator shall be capable of being mounted in any position. i) Fail safe spring direction shall be indicated by clearly visible arrow to indicate spring action (CW or CCW). 5 Con

    35、struction 5.1 Aluminum materials used shall be low copper content (0.4% or less) and be acceptable for marine applications when specified by the user. 5.2 The vane and shaft shall be one piece construction, and shall be made of a suitable corrosion resistant material (e.g., zinc plated ductile iron,

    36、 ENP coated alloy steel, aluminum, 316 SS). 5.3 All springs shall be corrosion resistant or coated for corrosion resistance. 5.4 Consult the actuator manufacturer/automator before using air assist to ensure that using air pressure on the spring side will not overload the valve shaft or actuator, res

    37、ulting in damage. 5.5 Actuators powered by sour gas shall comply with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 5.6 O-ring paddle seals should be assembled with integral bearings to equalize o-ring compression. The lip seals should be supported by stiffeners to ensure constant seal/case contact when not under - - 15

    38、- - ANSI/ISA-96.03.03-2013 pressure. The lip seals and stiffeners shall be held in by reinforced composite or metallic side plates. Side plates should be made of corrosion resistant materials or coated with a corrosion resistant finish. 6 Manual overrides Gearbox overrides are acceptable methods for

    39、 manual operation when specified. The manufacturer is responsible to ensure that operation of either type can be accomplished safely. The user shall examine ergonomics for suitability. The gearbox shall be permanently sealed against atmospheric conditions or be provided with a means for periodic lub

    40、rication. Figure 4 Typical example of a declutchable manual gear over-ride/handwheel 7 Corrosion protection 7.1 Actuators shall be protected against external corrosion by proper material selection and/or surface treatment as well as be acceptable for use in a marine environment when specified by the

    41、 user. If extreme or harsh environmental service conditions exist, the user shall communicate the existence of these conditions, to enable the supplier to properly select corrosion protection. If the actuator is installed in a harsh environment that could result in possible internal corrosion, then

    42、the user should consider a closed loop air supply system that will eliminate the ingress of ambient air into the cylinder that may cause corrosion to internal parts of the actuator. ANSI/ISA-96.03.03-2013 - - 16 - - 8 Testing 8.1 As a minimum, each assembled vane actuator shall be tested for externa

    43、l leakage at the MAOP. No detectable leakage shall be permitted. 8.2 As a minimum, each actuator shall be fully cycled by the manufacturer for at least three (3) consecutive times to verify proper operation from zero to 90 degrees rotation. 8.3 As a minimum, the manufacturer of the actuator shall ha

    44、ve a test record that shall be traceable and be maintained for a minimum of seven (7) years. This information shall be made available to the purchaser upon request. 8.4 Third party witness inspection at the manufacturers facility shall be agreed to prior to order placement. 9 Actuator selection (siz

    45、ing) The actuator shall be sized to assure proper operation of the device at the specified process conditions (i.e., maximum shutoff differential pressure). 9.1 Ideally a plot of valve required torque would be available in both the opening and closing directions of travel to properly size an actuato

    46、r. These data are not typically available; therefore, actuator manufacturers will utilize two main points along the actuator torque curve that in the case of a vane actuator corresponds to the end points of travel. Starting with the beginning of travel, these are referred to as “break” and “end” tor

    47、ques. In the case of double acting actuators these torques are equal in the closing and opening directions. Where a single break torque is referenced in output charts it is normally the lesser of the two (2) pressure strokes. In the case of single acting actuators the opening and closing torque curv

    48、es are different for the opening and closing directions. For this reason, they are designated as: BTO Break Torque to Open ETO End Torque to Open BTC Break Torque to Close ETC End Torque to Close These four torques are matched against the corresponding valve torques after a safety factor is applied

    49、to ensure the actuator torque exceeds the valve torque by a designated margin and to ensure the actuator torque does not exceed the maximum allowable stem torque (MAST). 9.2 Safety factor A multiplier used to provide increased torque in order to compensate for variations in actual versus design valve torque (often between 1.25 to 1.75). It is the responsibility of the actuator manufacturer (or supplier) to provide operating torque values throughout the actuator stroke in each direction.
