    4、nge Notice: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method for determining the suitability of paint for application at an elevated temperature. 2.0 APPARATUS 2.1 Nordson Versa Pump 2.2 Nordson HA-1 Paint Heater 2.3 Nord

    5、son Versa Airless Gun 2.4 Air-tight Container 2.5 No. 4 Ford Cup per ASTM D 1200 3.0 MATERIAL Solvent compatible with the grade of paint being tested. 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Thoroughly clean the apparatus with solvent. Visually examine the pump filter to insure its cleanliness. 4.2 Charge paint which has

    6、 been prepared for testing according to the steps outlined in CEMS G-5, Part I, Section B, under “Sampling Procedure”, to the system in such a manner that any excess solvent remaining in the system after cleaning is collected in a separate container. 4.3 Circulate the paint for five minutes accordin

    7、g to instructions in the Nordson Pump manual 4.4 Circulate the paint through the heater and the spray gun hoses. Adjust the pressure to 4.8 MPa (700 psi) 4.5 With the nozzle removed, draw off sufficient paint sample to conduct a viscosity test as measured with a No. 4 Ford Cup per ASTM D 1200. Deter

    8、mine and record the initial viscosity at 21 to 27 C (70 to 80 F).     10、nt to a temperature of 82 + 3C (180 + 5F) in approximately 10 minutes 4.7 Circulate the paint through the system for 6 hours while maintaining this temperature. 4.8 Remove sufficient paint sample for a viscosity test, place in an air-tight container and cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). Using the No. 4

    11、 Ford Cup per ASTM D 1200, determine and record the viscosity of the paint after heating. 4.9 Drain the paint from the system and examine the pump filter with the unaided eye for evidence of conglomerates or jelling. 5.0 REPORT Report the following information: 5.1 The change in viscosity after the

    12、6 hour circulation period. 5.2 Filter appearance: the paint will pass if no evidence of conglomerates, jelling or other deposits is observed on the filter pump.
