、 Cable Engineers Association I- i FOREWORD ,. X i ICEA publications are adopted in the public interest and are intended to promote product uniformity and quality throughout the industry. They are designed to eliminate misunderstanding between the manufacturer and user and to assist the user in selec

、ting and obtaining proper products for the particular application. Existence of an ICEA publication does - not in any respect preclude the manufacture or use of products not in conformance with this Guide. Suggestions for improvements in this publication are welcome and should be sent to ICEA, This

The coding format given in Section 3.1 of this document should be used to relate cable specifications to the proper cable code

、. When a manufacturer requires a new code and no existing code can be identified, a written code request, with detailed cable information, should be submitted to the Insulated Cable Engineers Association, P.O. 440, South Yarmouth, Massachusetts 02664, Telephone (508) 394-4424. 3. CODING FORMAT 3.1 C

、OPPER CABLE IDENTIFICATION CODING SEQUENCE A four-letter coding sequence designates copper telecommunications cables. Use of this coding simplifies cable identification in ordering, manufacturing, identifying, and record- keeping. After these four letters, if required, is a two-letter code known as

、the outer- protection-covering designation. The numeric pair count of the cablewould normally follow. An example of the coding format typically used for metallic cable is shown below for a 200 pair, 24 gauge solid insulated filled cable utilizing an 80C filling compound with a bonded ASP sheath and

、es the gauge and the type of conductor material. Conductors are solid wires of commercially pure annealed copper. Conductor sizes may be 16,19,22,24,26 or 28 American Wire Gauge (AWG). 3.1.4 Fourth Cable Code LetterCheath Designation The fourth letter in the 4-letter coding sequence identifies the t

、ype of sheath materials used. Plastic-jacketed cables often have an acronym that describes the sheath constniction. 3.1.5 Outer Protection Code The standard types of outer protection are designated by a two-letter code that follows the four-letter coding sequence. 3.1.6 Pair Count The numerical desi

、gnation indicates the nominal pair count (the number of spare pairs is not included in the stated pair count). It typically follows the four letter code unless there is an outer protection code. (See Paragraph 3.1) 3.2 CURRENT CODE DESIGNATIONS FOR CABLE DESIGN, CONDUCTOR INSULATION, CONDUCTORS, AND
