    2、commercial zinc alloys in ingot form for remelting for the manufacturing of high pressure die castings used in automotive applications and other allied industries. Zinc alloy ingots are specified by the chemical composition. 1.1 Material Description. These zinc alloy ingots are produced for use in h

    3、igh pressure die casting. Each zinc ingot grade has a composition that aligns with, but is tighter than, the respective die cast grade. The various grades of pressure die cast zinc alloys can be referenced in GMW worldwide specification GMW3341. 1.1.1 Material Identification. This specification cove

    4、rs the GMW3344 ingot grades listed below in Table 1 and the commercial alloy that each ingot will ultimately make. Appendix Table A1 provides a relationship between some of the national and international specifications and these GMW3344 alloy grades. Table 1: Ingot Grades and Commercial Alloys Ingot

Ingots furnished to this specification shall conform to the chemical composit

    9、ion limits shown in Table 2. Exceptions to GMW3344 composition requirements require agreement from purchaser (Design Responsible Engineer or delegate), and shall be explicitly documented on the GM engineering drawing and other equivalent part specification documents. Sampling of the zinc alloy ingot

    10、s for compliance with the chemical requirements shall be in accordance with ASTM B240. Each ingot shall be marked with a grade designation by a cast, stamped or color identification. In addition, each bundle or pallet of ingots shall be identified with the manufac

    14、turers name, the respective heat or lot identification and the total weight of each bundle or pallet. 3.1.3 Color Coding. The color coding for zinc ingots shall consist of a two color system with the exception of Cu10Al4Mg which use a three color code. The color coding for each ingot grade is listed

    15、 in Table 3. The shape of the ingots shall be

    16、 at the discretion of the supplier, unless a specific shape is agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. 3.1.5 Condition of Ingot. The material covered by this specification shall be free of dross, adhering foreign matter and surface oxides. Copyright General Motors Company Provided by IHS

To provide high qua

    18、lity ingots, thorough mixing of the molten bath in the furnace pot is recommended to insure homogeneity. Crucibles and furnaces that have been previously used for brass and bronze must be avoided, as lead and tin (which are commonly used in copper-based alloys) are serious contaminates. It is also r

    19、ecommended that melting and handling equipment be coated with refractory washes to prevent iron dissolution and subsequent melt contamination. 4 Manufacturing Process Not applicable. 5 Rules and Regulations 5.1 Legal Regulations. All materials must satisfy applicable laws, rules, regulations and rec

    20、ommendations valid in the country of usage. 5.2 Language. In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence. 5.3 Inspection and Rejection. Samples of components or materials released to a GM material specification shall be tested for confo

    21、rmity with the requirements of this material specification and approved by the responsible Engineering department prior to commencement of delivery of bulk supplies. A new approval must be received for any changes, e.g., properties, manufacturing process, location of manufacture, etc. If not otherwi

    22、se agreed, all testing and documentation normally required for initial release must be completed. It is the responsibility of the supplier to inform the customer in a timely manner, without solicitation, and to include documentation of all modifications of materials and/or processes and to apply for

    23、 a new release. If not otherwise agreed, all release tests shall be repeated and documented by the supplier prior to commencement of delivery of non-conforming bulk supplies. In individual cases, a shorter test can be agreed to between the responsible Engineering department and the supplier. 5.4 Ini

    24、tial Source Approval. No shipments shall be made by any supplier until representative initial production samples have been approved by the appropriate Materials Engineering department(s) as meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.5 Material Safety Data Sheets/Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS).

    25、 For new product submissions, or when a change in chemical composition of an existing product has occurred, a complete copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet must be submitted in compliance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) requir

    26、ements or other country-specific MSDS/SDS requirements. In addition, product MSDS/SDS submissions must be in compliance with specific country General Motors TMC003 Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet guidance documents where available. 5.6 All materials supplied to this standard must comply

    27、 with the requirements of GMW3059, Restricted and Reportable Substances for Parts. 6 Approved Sources Engineering qualifications of an approved source are required for this standard. Only sources listed in the GM Materials File GM Supply Power under this standard number have been qualified by Engine
