SCOPE This specification defines immersion lead coating on aluminum alloy parts. 2 APPLICATION This coating is generally used where resistance to scuff and wear during engine break in is required such as aluminum alloy pistons. 3. REQUIREM

    3、ENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 SURFACE QUALITY T

    4、he coating on the finish part shall have a dull and unpolished appearance. The coating shall be uninterrupted. Imperfections such as peels, flakes and blisters are not permissible. The visual examination shall be performed on the finish part at magnification of 10 - 20 times. The parts shall be clea

    5、ned and washed in a suitable manner. They shall not be machined with abrasive materials or wire brushes after surface treatment. Optionally, the lead coat in the bolt bores is smoothed. 3.2 THICKNESS 0.0008 - 0.0030 mm A thin film of lead with complete coverage of significant surfaces is required. M

    6、easurement of Thickness: The coat thickness shall be determined by a usual measuring instrument or by the metallographic method. 3.3 ADHESION The coat shall adhere to the base metal and shall show no separations when tested as follows: The finish part to be tested shall be stored for a minimum of 24

    7、 hours after coating. Test Method: Cut an “X“ in the coated surface of the base metal with a blade in several places. Press tape 3M-710 or 898 onto the area, which shall be free of grease and cleaned up firmly and remove it, pulling direction, being perpendicular to the coated surface with an upward motion at a medium uniform speed after approx. 3 minutes. No coating shall adhere to the tape. In case of dispute a repeat examination of thickness according to Point 3.2. should be carried out.
