    2、YSIS OF SURFACTANTS AND WETTING AGENTS IN CLEANERS Application This test method is used to determine the percent surfactants and wetting agents in a cleaner. The procedure is intended to be a simplified version of the applicable ASTM standard (e.g. D 501 or D 800) as well as being more appropriate f

    3、or dealing with the many formulations of cleaners that are commonly encountered in plant operations. Apparatus Required Infrared Analyzer Suitable for use with cleaners. Magnetic Stirrer Hot Plate Analytical Balance Precision +/- 0.1 mg Oven Mechanical convection; capable of maintaining 105 +/- 2 C

Materials Required Hydrochloric Acid Concentrated, Reagent grade; CAUTION: Corrosive Chloroform Reagent grade; CAUTION: Good ventilation required Methyl Alcohol Reagent grade; CAUTION: Low flash point Acetone Reagent grade; CAUTION: Low flash point; good v

    6、entilation required Distilled or Deionized Water 20 micromhos/cm at 25 C maximum conductivity (ASTM D 1125) Filter Paper Whatman No. 541 Solutions Required Hydrochloric Acid Solution 0.5 N Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a contro

    7、lled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified.     8、 of the material in a 250 mL flask. A. Powders Start extractions B. Liquids Dry at 100 C for 16 h to remove moisture prior to extractions C. If caustic is present Neutralize with 0.5 N HCl. Dry at 100 C to remove moisture. Then run the extractions. 2. Extract the sample from 1A, 1B or 1C with chloro

    9、form as follows: (A) Add 30 to 40 mL chloroform to the sample in the 250 mL flask (with reflux condenser). 1. Heat to boiling. 2. Remove from hot plate. 3. Agitate using magnetic stirrer. 4. Let settle. 5. Filter by decantation into a tared 250 mL beaker through Whatman 541 filter paper. 6. Repeat S

    10、teps 2A1 through 2A5 for a total of 4 extractions. 7. Gently wash out with residual chloroform in the beaker onto the filter. Note: Make sure that a minimum of insolubles present is washed onto the filter. 8. Wash the filter for 5 to 6 times to remove any chloroform solubles into the tared beaker. (

    11、B) Add 30 to 40 mL acetone to the residue in the 250 mL flask. 1. Repeat steps in 2A using acetone instead of chloroform. (C) Add 30 to 40 mL methyl alcohol to the residue in the 250 mL flask. 1. Repeat steps in 2A using methyl alcohol instead of chloroform. (D) Evaporate the solvents from the extra

(F) Cool in desiccator. (G) Weigh. (H) Calculate, % of recovered material in each beaker. (I) Check recovery by infrared.

    13、Combine percentage if necessary. Interferences: 1. If nitrites are present, they will usually be found in the alcohol soluble extract. 2. If chelating agents are present, they may also be soluble in the chloroform, acetone or alcohol. 3. Nitrites and chelating agents are not surfactants or wetting agents. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
