、OR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines the performance and product requirements for automotive buffing and polishing pads. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used for compounding service repair lacquer finishes, buffing out enamel finishes, and for appl
、ication of cleaning and polishing compounds to automotive vehicles. This specification is not intended to limit the buffing and polishing pads to any specific material or material system but rather defines the performance of the entire system. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Shall be of such composition that th
、ey meet all the requirements of this specification. They shall be capable of use with equipment normally available. 3.2 Shall be applicable for use on all types of automotive painted surfaces such as alkyd and acrylic finishes. 3.3 Shall withstand cleaning in order to extend their usable life. As a
、result of washing or cleaning, there shall be minimal shrinkage, minimal loss of pile and no separation from the backing material. 3.4 To reduce the danger of burning work surfaces with the edge of the backing material, the pile shall overlap the backing material edge and shield the entire rim of th
、e pad. 3.5 Shall be so constructed to allow buffing and polishing operations on all types of body contours and curves with ease and safety. 3.6 The pile shall be so constructed to maintain a cool, well balanced, snarlfree pad head. 3.7 Buffing and polishing pads having an arbor hole shall be balance
、d rotationally and the arbor hole shall be effectively reinforced for longer use and wear. Cleaning the pads shall have a negligible effect on balance and rotation. 3.8 Adhesive used to lock the pile to the backing material, must withstand the action of rubbing compounds, cleaners, heat build up, wa
、shing, and cleaning operations. 3.9 Shall not leave objectionable swirl marks, cut or burn, or leave other surface defects on the surface to which it is applied when used in the proper manner.
