    2、 ESB-M4G151-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE: The material defined by this specification is a soft, open cell polyurethane foam saturated with a nonbitumen resin. This material can have a bead of hot melt rubber applied to one surface if necessary to provide a satisfactory water seal and, al

    3、so, a pressure sensitive adhesive to aid in assembly. 2. APPLICATION: This specification was released originally for material used as a filler between exterior moldings and enameled metal to seal against air leaks and wind noise. 3. REQUIREMENTS: 3.1 COLOR Dark brown or black 3.2 DENSITY (ASTM D 156

    4、4) 3.2.1 Unsaturated Foam 1-2 lb/ft3 (16-32 kg/m3) 3.2.2 Saturated Foam 4.0-13.5 lb/ft3 (64-217 kg/m3) 3.3 TENSILE STRENGTH, min 9.0 psi (62 kPa) (ASTM D 1564) Elongation, min 80% 3.4 COLD FLEXIBILITY No cracking Test Method: Condition a sample 12 in (300 mm) x width up to 1 in (25 mm) x thickness u

    5、p to 1 in (25 mm) at -29 +/- 1 C for 16 h. Bend sample 180 around a temperature conditioned 1 in (25 mm) diameter mandrel. 3.5 SATURANT CONTENT 75 - 85% (Based on total weight) Test Method: Extract the saturant from a 5 - 7 g sample in the Soxhlet extraction apparatus described in ASTM D 1574 with M

    6、-5B58 (1, 1, 1 - trichloroethane). The extraction shall be continued for 1/2 h after the solvent in the siphon has become clear. 3.6 HEAT RESISTANCE The saturant shall not flow or drip when exposed to the following temperature conditions: . 30 min at 121 +/- 3 C . 72 h at 88 +/- 1 C ENGINEERING MATE

    7、RIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M4G151-A WP 3948-b Page 2 of 3 Test Method: Compress a 6 in (150 mm) length of sealant to 25% of its original thickness between two 3 x 9 in (75 x 225 mm) steel panels coated with ESB-M32J100 quality enamel. Clamp in this position for 4 h at 23 +/- 2 C, then expose the assembl

    8、y to the specified temperature. Separate assemblies shall be used for each test. 3.7 PAINT STAINING No migration stain (FLTM BO 15-1) Test Method: Securely attach a 6 in (150 mm) sample of the material to a 3 x 9 in (75 x 225 mm) steel panel coated with ESB-M32J100 quality enamel. Expose the assembl

    9、y for 48 h in the fluorescent sunlamp cabinet. Examine for any evidence of staining beyond the boundaries of the test specimen. 3.8 PRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVE As specified on engineering drawing Certain releases of this material may require the application of a pressure sensitive adhesive to aid in

    10、 production assembly. This adhesive shall have a minimum peel strength of 12 oz/in (132 N/m) of width minimum (as received) when applied to ESB-M32J100 quality enameled steel and tested per ASTM D 1000. 3.9 WATER SEAL No leaks permitted after 1 h under a 2.0 in (50 mm) static head of water. Test Met

    11、hod: Prepare 2 test assemblies as follows: Shape a 9 in (225 mm) length of sealant into a “U“ configuration and compress it to 25% of its original thickness between two 4 x 6 in (100 x 150 mm) steel panels coated with ESB-M32J100 quality enamel. Clamp securely in this position. Condition one assembl

    12、y for 30 min at 23+/- 2 C and bake the remaining assembly for 30 min at 121 +/- 3 C. After the second assembly cools to room temperature, fill both assemblies with water to a height of 2 in (50 mm) above the bottom of the “U“. Allow the two assemblies to stand in a vertical position for 1 h and exam

    13、ine. 3.10 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY Material supplied to this specification must be equivalent to that originally approved. Changes in formulation or processing shall not be made without prior approval as described in Supplier Procedure I-A. 4. APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERS: Suppliers to this specification m

    14、ust be approved by the affected product engineering office. Procedure for gaining approval of a specific material to a new/existing ES-M specification is contained in Supplier Procedure I-A. Approved new suppliers will be added to the Engineering Materials Approved Source List. ENGINEERING MATERIAL

GENERAL INFORMATION: This information is for direction of the user and is not a requirement for the supplier. 5.1 SOLVENTS The saturant resin used in this material is soluble in ESB-M14J147 (naphtha), M5B58 (1, 1, 1 - trichlorethane), and gasoline.
