SCOPE The material defined by these specifications is a needled, nonwoven glass fiber batt, of uniform thickness and density, with no resin or organic fibers adde

    3、d for bonding. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally for material used as a thermal insulator for 1975 floor pans in the area of the thermactor thermal switch and over the catalytic converter. ESB-M12G69-B was released originally as a thermal insulator for the luggage compartm

    4、ent floor pan area. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99

    5、P1111-A). 3.2 CONSTRUCTION The fibers shall be garnetted and the batt mechanically needled. The fibers used shall not be less than 1.0 in (25 mm) in length. The fiber diameter shall be 0.00035 in (8.9 m) average, with 90% under 0.00040 in (10.2 m) 3.3 COMPOSITION 3.3.1 Fiber 97 - 99% glass fiber (Ty

    6、pe “E“ or equivalent) 3.3.2 Organic Materials 1 - 3% organic weaving lubricant 3.4 THICKNESS (FLTM BN 023-02) As specified on engineering drawing. (Tolerances: +20%, -10%.) 3.5 DENSITY, min 8 lb/ft3 (128 kg/m3) (ASTM C 167, except compute thickness as described in para 3.4) ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPEC

    8、MPRESSION & RECOVERY Compression, max 10% Recovery, min 90% Test Method: Cut five, 12 x 12 in (305 x 305 mm) samples. (Thickness as specified on engineering drawings) Apply a 12 x 12 in (305 x 305 mm) platen weighing 1/2 lb (0.23 kg) to the five plied samples. Measure the height of the pile, at the

    9、center of the vertical sides. (The average of these readings is the initial thickness of the pile (T1). Apply a 5 lb (2.3 kg) load to the center of the pile and measure again for average thickness of the pile with load (T2). % Compression = T1 - T2x 100 T1 Remove the load and allow pile (with platen

    10、) to recover thickness for 30 min. Measure again for average thickness of the pile (T3) % Recovery = T3 - T2 x 100 T1 - T2 3.9 ESB-M12G69-A FLAMMABILITY 3.9.1 In order to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 302, the materials, portions of components, and composites shall not burn,

    11、or transmit a flame across its surface, at a rate of more than 4 in (101 mm) per min. To demonstrate compliance, the sample size and method of testing shall be in accordance with FLTM BN 024-02. 3.9.2 Performance - Environmental Aging All materials, portions of components, and composites defined by

    12、this specification that have not been treated, modified or reformulated and exceed a max burn rate of 3.0 in (76 mm) per min as specified by the Flammability Lot Sampling Plan of FLTM BN 024-02, must be evaluated for permanency of the materials flame retardant properties per ESB-M25P3-A according to

    13、 the accelerated environmental aging requirements applicable to the basic material category of this particular specification. Any material, portions of components, and composites defined by this specification that have been treated, modified or reformulated to conform to Flammability Lot Sampling Pl

    14、an of FLTM BN 024-02, regardless of max burn rate, must be evaluated for both permanency of materials flame retardant properties and changes in mechanical, chemical and physical properties per ESB-M25P3-A applicable to the basic materials category of this particular specification.     16、LITY, max 4 in (101 mm)/min (FLTM BN 024-02, without the lot sampling plan) In addition, the test specimen shall not exhibit any flashing or sudden flaming on either surface in excess of the above maximum value. 3.11 DYNAMIC FLEX FATIGUE (FLTM BO 012-04, Method “B“, 150 cycles) No separation or dest

    17、ruction by breakage of the glass fibers along the rubbing track of the simulated heel both before and after heat aging. Test Method: Prepare two, 10 x 10 in (250 x 250 mm) samples of the glass fiber batt. Heat age one sample for 2 h at 205 C and condition at 23 +/- 2 C for 4 h. Staple both samples a

    18、djacent to each other on a 10 x 20 in (250 x 500 mm) medium to lightweight pile carpet, (ESB-M3H15 or ESB-M3H20 type). Conduct the test per Method “B“ of FLTM BO 012-04 for 150 cycles, making sure the simulated heel passes over both paddings in the same stroke. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of these specifications.
