、 IDENTIFICATION & MATERIAL CODE PARTS MARKING 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 All parts are produced using materials that interface with other parts, installers and service technicians. Materials and processes used to manufacture the design intent of the part are identified on Product and manufacturing drawings,

、 providing Ford a complete understanding of the goods it is purchasing and manufacturing. 1.2 For Product Engineering drawings, notes or drawing callouts containing the part or an assemblys vehicle usage is not permitted on the field of the drawing. 2 DEFINITIONS 2.1 BUILD-TO-PRINT, see Standard A-3

、, para. 2.7. 2.2 GRAY BOX, see Standard A-3, para. 2.8. 2.3 BLACK BOX, see Standard A-3, para. 2.9. 2.4 INTERFACES, see Standard A-3, para. 2.10. 2.5 FINISHES are defined as any material or material modification applied to the surface of a part. Examples include paints, coatings, electroplatings, ph

、osphate treatments, and nitriding. 2.6 MATERIAL CODES are industry standard symbols for chemical names that describe the basic materials used for components fabricated from polymeric or metallic materials. These codes may also include information on the type and percent of alloying materials, filler

、s, and reinforcing elements. 3 REQUIREMENTS 3.1 LAYOUT 3.1.1 SINGLE COMPONENT DRAWINGS 3.1.1.1 All materials on a single component part drawing are placed in a material list located in the lower right-hand corner of the drawing to the left of the Title Block below the General Notes. Each material an

、d finish (platings, paints, etc.) shall be identified separately. Format of the material list is as follows: LINE1: Description of component, material or finish LINE 2: Ford material specification / industry standard / material trade name, optional material specifications LINE 3+: Additional materia

Examples include el

、emental composition restrictions, heat treatment, anodizing, impregnation, shot peening, and plasma treating along with quantification of the effect (e.g. hardness, case depth, Almen strip arc height or surface activity). OPTIONAL: The entire material list may be surrounded by a box. 3.1.2 ASSEMBLY

、AND SUB-ASSEMBLY DRAWINGS 3.1.2.1 For multi-component drawings, materials shall be listed in the Bill of Materials (BOM), see Standard A-3 for requirements and proper format. Materials, finishes, heat treatment, and material codes shall be listed for each item of the assembly or sub-assembly. 3.2 ID

、ENTIFICATION OF MATERIALS AND NOTES NOTE: It is the responsibility of the Design Engineer and Materials Engineer to define which type of component definition (Build-to-Print, Gray Box, or Black Box) applies to each item on the drawing, see Definitions. Assembly drawings may contain both Build to Pri

、nt and Gray/Black Box components. 3.2.1 BUILD-TO-PRINT COMPONENTS, MATERIAL IDENTIFICATION 3.2.1.1 For single component drawings, the material, finish, and additional material information shall be included on the drawing. 3.2.1.2 Ford Engineering Material Specifications or industry standards (i.e. A

、STM, EN, ISO, JIS, or SAE) are the preferred methods of describing the materials used. If no Ford or industry standard exists to describe the material, the name of the material supplier and their trade name / product code shall be listed. Additional material information (see note in 3.1.1.1) should

、also be included. Generic terms such as: “steel“, “oil“, “plastic“ or “rubber“ are not acceptable. 3.2.2 GRAY BOX COMPONENTS, MATERIAL IDENTIFICATION 3.2.2.1 For single component drawings, the material, finish, and additional material information shall be included on the drawing. 3.2.2.2 For assembl

、y and sub-assembly drawings, this standard and Standard A-3, para. 3.1.3.6.1 requires the material, finish, heat treatment, and material codes be listed for each component in the bill of material. Supplier specifications that are more stringent than Ford or i

、ndustry standards, as determined by Ford, may also be used (see Standard E-1 para 3.5.1). When listing a supplier specification for a material, finish, or secondary operation, a material or process description shall be included with the suppliers specification. If is no Ford, supplier, or industry s
