、 5.0.0: December 1995 Foreword This Global System for Mobile communications Technical Specification (GTS) has been produced by the Special Mobile Group (SMG) Technical Committee (TC) of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). This GTS defines the interfaces and Terminal Adaptatio

、n Functions (TAF) integral to a Mobile Termination (MT) which enables the attachment of asynchronous terminals to a MT within the digital cellular telecommunications system (Phase 2/Phase 2+). This GTS is a TC-SMG approved GSM technical specification version 5, which contains GSM Phase 2+ enhancemen

、tdfeaturec to the version 4 GSM technical specification. The European Telecommunications Standard from which this Phase 2+ GTS has evolved is Phase 2 GSM ETS 300 583 (GSM 07.01 version 4.5.1). GTS are produced by TC-SMG to enable the GSM Phase 2 + specifications to become publicly available, prior t

、o submission for the formal ETSI standards approval procedure to become European Telecommunications Standards (ETS). This ensures the earliest possible access to GSM Phase 2+ specifications for all Manufacturers, Network operators and implementors of the Global System for Mobile communications. The

、contents of this GTS are subject to continuing work within TC-SMG and may change following formal TC-SMG approval. Should TC-SMG modify the contents of this GTS it will then be republished by ETSI with an identifying change of release date and an increase in version number as follows: Version 5.x.y

、where: y the third digit is incremented when editorial only changes have been incorporated in the specification; x the second digit is incremented for all other types of changes, .e. technical enhancements, corrections, updates, etc. NOTE: TC-SMG has produced documents which give the technical speci

、fications for the implementation of the digital cellular telecommunications system. Historically, these documents have been identified as GSM Technical Specifications (GSM-TSs). These TSs may have subsequently become I-ETSs (Phase i), or ETSs/ETSI Technical Reports (ETRs) (Phase 2). TC-SMG has also

、produced ETSI GSM TSs which give the technical specifications for the implementation of Phase 2+ enhancements of the digital cellular telecommunications system. These version 5.x.x GSM Technical Specifications may be referred to as GTSs. ETSI GSN*O7mOZ 75 3400855 O077545 084 Page 6 GSM 07.02 Version

、T) which enables the attachment of asynchronous terminals to a MT (see GSM 04.02). The general aspects of Terminal Adaptation Functions are contained in GSM 07.01. This specification covers support of these services for the following interfaces and procedures: (i) V.14 procedures (i) V.21 DTUDCE int

、erface (iii) V.22bis DTUDCE interface (iv) V.23 DTWDCE interface (v) V.32 DTEIDCE procedures (vi) 1.420 S interface (vii) V.25bis signalling procedures The asynchronous data rates between the MT and the TE2 are defined in GSM 02.02. 1.1 Normative references This GTS incorporates by dated and undated

、 reference, provisions from other publications. These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed hereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this GTS only when incorporated in i

Page 9 GSM 07.02 Version 5.0.0: December 1995 2 Reference configuration GSM 07.01 and GSM 04.02 describe the basic reference configurations. 2.1 Customer Access Configuratio

、n This configuration is as shown in Figure 1 of GSM 04.02. This specification specifically refers to the Mobile Terminations (MTs) which support terminals of the type TE1 and TE2 with asynchronous capabilities. The TAF is functionally a part of an MT1, MT2 or MTO with an integral asynchronous data c

、apability. 2.2 Terminal Adaptation Function The TAF provides facilities to allow manual or automatic call control functions associated with alternate speech/data, speech followed by data and circuit switched services. The following functions are also included: - Conversion of electrical, mechanical,

、 functional and procedural characteristics of the V series and ISDN type interfaces to those required by the PLMN; Bit rate adaptation of the V series data signalling rates and the ISDN 64 kbis to that provided in the PLMN: - - The mapping functions necessary to convert automatic calling and/or auto

、matic answering procedures of recommendation V.25 bis and parameters for asynchronous operation; - The mapping functions necessary to convert S interface signalling to the PLMN Dm channel signalling; - Flow control (in some cases resulting in non-transparency of data as described in section 4.3); -

、Layer 2 Relaying (see Annex A); - ln-call modification function; - Synchronization procedure, which means the task of synchronizing the entry to and the exit from the data transfer phase between two user terminals. This is described in GSM 07.01; - Filtering of channel control information as describ

、ed in GSM 07.01; - Terminal compatibility checking. GSM 03.10 refers to the rate adaptation elements to be provided in the MS. 3.1.1 This is provided as indicated in GSM 04.21. 3.1.2 The ISDN rate adapted frame format is modified to the PLMN rate adapted format as indicated in GSM 04.21. 3.2 I

The signals required at this interface are shown in Table 2. a) b) GSM 04.21 refers to the frame structure and identifies the use of the status bits for

、 the carriage of signalling information. Status bits (S1 ,S3,S4,S6,S8,S9 and X): The bits S and X are used to convey channel control information associated with the data bits in the data transfer stage as shown below. The S bits are put into two groups SA and SB to carry the condition of two interch

、ange circuits. The X bit is used to carry the condition of circuit 106. The mechanism for proper assignment of the control information from the transmitting signal rate adapter interface via these bits to the receiving signal rate adapter interface is shown below in Table 1. For the S and X bits, a
