A-A-53 401 1 April 1988 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION BANDAGE ELASTIC The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Bandage, Cotton, Elastic of Military Specification MIL-B-37163
2、dated 4 June 1975. This Commercial Item Description covers- an elastic adhesive bandage capable of causing compression and suitable for binding where pressure is required. Type I: The bandage shall be a roll of elastic adhesive bandage suitable for securing large bulky wound dressings and for bindin
3、g where pressure is required. The 1 inch size is suitable as a fixation device for external catheters. Each bandage shall be one continuous piece and shall be evenly and neatly rolled with the adhesive mass to the inside, on a suitable rigid core of approximately 1-1/4 inch diameter. The bandage sha
4、ll be free of ravelings and loose threads. Each bandage shall be capable of being stretched in the warp direction without mechanical force, to a minimum length of 5 yards, and testing for stretch shall be determined by stretching manually. The bandage shall be a minimum of 3 yards unstretched. After
5、 the fabric backing has been stretched in the warp direction and then released, the fabric shall return to is a.pproximate original relaxed condition. The fabric backing shall be all virgin cotton, crimped weave, with leno or slit edges, and having a minimum thread count of 39 in the warp direction
6、and 32 in the fill direction. Both warp and fill yarns shall be combed or carded peeler cotton having a nominal staple length of 1-1/16 inch. The backing fabric shall have a minimum weight of 7 ounces per square yard and the color of the fabric shall be off-white (natural) or light tan. AMSC/NA FSC

The adhesive on the fabric backing shall be prssure- sensitive, spread on one side of the fabric and shall be a smooth homogeneous blend of new natural and synthetic rubberr plasticizers, filler and resinc. The difleience between the two weighings is the weight of adhesive mass of the sample. The adhesive quality (adhesion) shall be a minimum average o 1 Ib when test
12、ed in accordance with the Shear Adhesive Strength Test of Adhesive Tape U.S.P. test result shall be the average o the results obtained from not lem than 3 specimens from different sample rolls. 18、er inch. The fabric shall have a hinimum weight of 7 ounces per square yard, and the color of the fabric shall be off-white (natural). The adhesive coating on the roll shall be uniformly and properly applied, substantially free of breaks and shall not be toxic or irritating to t
21、he skin. The minimum weight of the adhesive mass shall be 127 gm/m2 and shall be determined in the following manner: Weigh a specimen of the finished bandage to the nearest thousandth of a gram. Remove all of the adhesive mass from the sample with a suitable solvent. Dry, then reweigh sample. The di
22、fference between the two weighings is the weight of adhesive mass of the sample. Inspection, as used herein, is defined as both examination (such as visual or auditory in
30、vestigation without the use of special laboratory appliances or procedures) and testing (determination by technical means of physical and chemical properties) of the item. Testing and examination shall be conducted to determine compliance with all specification requirements. Test methods shall be su
31、itable, accurate and reproducible. Sampling for examination. Sampling for examination shall be conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-105 and as specified herein. The unit of product for examination shall be one bandage. Unless otherwise specified, sampling for examination shall be conducted at inspec
32、tion level II, AQL 2.5 maximum percent defective. Contractor certification. - The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Govern
33、ment reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. Metric Products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using in
34、ch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of Federal Standard No. 376, and all other requirements of this document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances
35、specified in the inch/pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
