This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identic

In accordance with CENKENELEC Internal Regulations, the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ire

This draft European Standard specifies the requirements for the chemical composition, surface condition, sampling, analysis, inspection documentation and marking for five

、grades of ingot tin. The grades of tin included in this draft European Standard are those which are traded internationally. 2 Dot initions For the purposes of this standard the following definitions apply 2.1 ingot: Cast, unwrought product in a form suitable only for remelting. 2.2 batch: Series of

、ingots produced from a single uniform melt. 2.3 bundle: Collection of ingots taken from one batch and secured by banding for the purposes of handling, shipment and storage. 3 Ordoring information The following information shall be supplied by the purchaser in the enquiry and/or order, to assist the

、supplier in providing the correct material: a) the number of this European Standard (EN 610); b) the designation of the tin grade required (see table 1); c) the individual nominal mass of the ingots; d) e) whether a specific ingot shape is required (see 4.2); f) conformity is required (see clause 7)

、; the total mass of ingots required; whether a certificate of analysis or a statement of g) the specific packaging requirements. The rounding Page 5 EN 610:1995 4.2 Sapo of ingots The shape of the ingots shall be at the discretion of the supplier, unless a specific shape is agreed between the

、purchaser and the supplier and is stated in the enquiry and/order see 3e)l. NOTE: The ingot shape should be such that the bundle of ingots remains stable when the banding is removed. 4.3 Surface condition of ingots The surface of the ingots shall be clean and free of holes and pores. 5 When analysis

、 is to be carried out to verify conformity of a batch of ingots with the composition requirements given in 4.1, the selection of the samples, and the preparation of the analysis samples, shall be in accordance with annex B. Clean the sample ingots by scratch brushing the surface, using the steel wire brush (B.2.1). Then use the soft brush (B.2

、.2) to remove any loose or detached surface contaminants. B.3.3 Sawing th8 sample ingots Saw each sample ingot individually by the following procedure. Clamp the ingot in the vice of the hacksaw (B.2.3). Make three sawcuts through the complete cross-section of the ingot at sites one-quarter, two-qua

、rters and three-quarters of the length L of the ingot, collecting all the resulting sawings (see figure B.l a). clean the sawings thoroughly in the degreasing solvent (B.2.5). Remove any free iron with the magnet (B.2.4). If any oil is likely to be present, NOTE 1: The two outer sawcuts should not b

、e made through the end lugs of the ingot. If any sample ingot has end lugs which are longer than one-quarter the length of the ingot, the two outer sawcuts should be made closer to the centre-cut, such that the full cross-section of the ingot is sampled see figure B.lb) J. NOTE 2: Do not use lubrica

、nt in making the sawcuts, except where experience shows it will not vitiate sampling. NOTE 3: If the ingots are of a size, or shape, which is such that the procedure described is not practicable, then an appropriate, systematic sawing procedure should be followed, which in cases of dispute should be

、 agreed between the disputing parties. In this procedure the pattern of sawcuts should be made through the full cross-section of each sample ingot. The sawings so produced should be sufficient to provide an aggregate analysis sample of minimum mass 100 g which is representative of the whole batch of

、 ingots. Repeat these procedures for each of the sample ingots. Combine and mix all the sawings, to give a sample of sawings representative of the whole batch of ingots.
