When selecting material for vacuum ovens, the mechanical stability towards the vacuum to be produced at the

、maximum temperature in the inner chamber is to be taken into account. DIN 12880:2007-05 6 6 Requirements 6.1 Common requirements 6.1.1 Shelves, plates Removable shelves, perforated plates or wire mesh trays for samples shall be provided by the manufacturer together with an indication of how much wei

、ght they can support. The platforms connected to the shaking mechanism of shaking incubators shall be capable of securely fixing the sample to be agitated under all possible shaking conditions. 6.1.2 Temperature indicator and operating controls To indicate the temperature in the usable space, heatin

、g ovens and incubators shall be equipped with a temperature measuring device that can be read from the outside. The temperature shall be indicated in increments of at least 1 C for heating ovens 0,2 C for shaking incubators, and 0,1 C for incubators. The operating controls should be designed and arr

、anged so as to prevent any unintentional alteration of the selected setting. 6.1.3 Safety requirements As specified in DIN EN 61010-2-010 (VDE 0411-2-010); for shaking incubators the specifications given in DIN EN ISO 12100-2 also apply. 6.1.4 Electromagnetic compatibility As in DIN EN 61326-1 (VDE

、0843-20-1). 6.1.5 Sound power level Built-in devices such as fans, pumps, motors or switching devices shall not exceed a sound power level of 85 dB(A). The sound power level produced by the heating ovens and incubators covered by this standard should not exceed 65 dB(A). This requirement does not ap

、ply to the noise level produced by the sample in shaking incubators. NOTE Where the sound power level or emission sound pressure level are to be determined, refer to guidelines for suitable methods of measurement given in DIN EN ISO 3740 or in DIN EN ISO 11200. 6.1.6 Cleanability The inner chamber o

、f heating ovens and incubators shall not have any inaccessible areas, cavities, corners or edges, except where these are unavoidable, for example in the case of circulation fans, devices for air conduction or the driving mechanism of shaking incubators. DIN 12880:2007-05 7 6.1.7 Usable space The usa

、ble space (see 3.8) of heating ovens and incubators shall be within the volume defined by the temperature sensors within the inner chamber (see 7.3.1). The maximum usable space shall be specified and documented by the manufacturer following testing for temperature homogeneity. 6.2 Requirements for h

、eating ovens Where required, heating ovens should be provided with suitably dimensioned vent connections capable of being shut and connected to an exhaust air duct. 6.3 Requirements for incubators and shaking incubators 6.3.1 Visibility of samples It shall be possible to observe the samples over the

、 whole usable space without opening the inner chamber. To this end, incubators may be fitted with a double door system provided with a glazed transparent inner door, for example. 6.3.2 Germ reduction The inner chamber of incubators and shaking incubators shall be designed for germ reduction. The ger

、m reduction method shall be specified by the manufacturer and described in the operating manual. Where integrated methods such as thermal methods are offered by the manufacturer, examples of the effectiveness of the integrated method should be given. 7 Testing temperatures 7.1 General test condition

、s The tests specified below are type tests. During these tests, the ambient test conditions should be as similar as possible to those prevailing in a laboratory. The ambient temperature during the test shall be (22 3) C. The ambient conditions should be maintained as constant as possible, for exampl

、e, the heating oven or incubator should be protected from large heat emitting areas (e.g. windows), direct solar irradiation, strong air currents (e.g. space heating, ventilation). NOTE When type testing, temperature homogeneity and temperature stability are determined in an empty heating oven or in

、cubator, but including the accessories, such as shelves. The temperature characteristics of a loaded heating oven may vary substantially, especially when the oven is densely loaded or is loaded with exothermal samples. 7.2 Test equipment The measuring equipment used for the temperature tests, consis

、ting of temperature sensors and recorders or indicators, shall be capable of determining the temperature differences between the measuring points with an DIN 12880:2007-05 8 expanded uncertainty of not more than 33 % of the resolution of the temperature indication of the heating oven or incubator (s

、ee 6.1.2). The maximum response time (t0,9) should be five seconds. Recommended temperature sensors capable of meeting these requirements are platinum resistance thermometers or, for incubators, thermistors. Other temperature measurement methods may be used, provided they yield equivalent measuremen

、t results. 7.3 Testing for temperature homogeneity and temperature stability 7.3.1 Arrangement of measuring points The temperature shall be measured in three horizontal measuring planes equally distributed over the inner chamber (see Figure 1). This requirement also applies if the position of a meas

、uring plane is affected by assemblies in the inner chamber of the heating oven. Key 1 Inner chamber of the heating oven 2 Measuring plane Figure 1 Measuring planes In each measuring plane the temperature shall be measured at nine measuring points (see Figure 2). For smaller heating ovens/incubators

、with an inner chamber smaller than 50 litres two measuring planes with four measuring points each (measuring points 2 to 5 in Figure 2) and an additional measuring point in the centre of the usable space are sufficient. DIN 12880:2007-05 9 Key Measuring points 1 to 9 Figure 2 Arrangement of measurin

、g points The temperature measuring points shall be located at least 15 mm above the shelves and touch neither the shelves nor the chamber walls (see Figure 3). When testing vacuum ovens, the temperature measuring points shall be in direct contact with the shelves, since heating of the samples in vac

、uum ovens is largely due to thermal conduction via the shelves. The temperature should be measured at five measuring points (measuring points 1 to 5 in Figure 2) in each measuring plane. The individual measuring planes may be measured sequentially. NOTE In vacuum ovens the temperature homogeneity me

、asured in this manner relates only to unloaded shelves. Key 1 Measuring point 2 Shelf a Distance between measuring point and shelf Figure 3 Distance between measuring point and shelf The distance between the temperature measuring points and the walls shall be about one tenth of the width, height or

、depth of the inner chamber (see b in Figure 4). This distance determines the position of the measuring planes (see Figure 1). DIN 12880:2007-05 10 Figure 4 Distance between temperature measuring points and chamber walls When testing shaking incubators, the temperature is to be measured at five measu

、ring points as shown in Figure 2 in a measuring plane at least 15 mm above the inserted empty plate. 7.3.2 Test temperatures The test shall be carried out at the following three temperatures: within the lower fifth of the working temperature range, but at a maximum of 20 C above the minimum working temperature; within the upper fifth of the working temperature range, but at a maximum of 20 C below the nominal temperature; at a temperature in the middle of the working temperature range. As a departure from the above-mentioned
