    19、II SPECIFICATiON C22.2 No. 881958 CONSTRUCTION AND TEST OF INDUSTRIAL HEATING EQUIPMENT 1. SCOPE 1.1 This Specification applies to portable and stationary, industrial type heating equipment for potentials of 600 volts and less, designed to be used in ordinary (i.e. non-hazardous) locations in accord

    20、ance with the rules of Part I of this Code. 1.2 This Specification applies to heat treating and other special-use furnaces, infrared mobile and stationary drying ovens, steam boilers and distilling equipment of the electrode or resistance-element type, liquid-heaters, electrically-heated presses, an

    21、d similar equipment. 1.3 This Specification does not apply to: (a) Equipment utilizing high-frequency alternating currents; (b) Soldering irons, tube vulcanizers, and similar small devices which, although often used in industrial premises, normally have enclosures, spacings, and other constructional

    22、 features similar to appliances; or (c) Air-heaters for industrial establishments, which are covered in the latest issue of CSA Specification C22.2 No. 46, Electric Air-Heaters. 2. DEFINITIONS 2.1 The following definitions apply in this Specification: Extra-low potential means any potential up to an

    23、d including 30 volts; Low potential means any potential from 31 to 750 volts inclusive. 3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General requirements applicable to this Specification are given in the latest issue of CSA Specification C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements. 3.2 Reference Specifications

    24、. Throughout this Specification refer- ence is made to certain other Specifications which should be consulted. A list of these Specifications appears on Page 5. 4. CONSTRUCTION 4.1 General 4.1.1 Component parts shall be types specifically approved for the use intended or shall be investigated as an

    25、integral part of, and with industrial heating equipment. 8 CSA SPECIFICATION C22.2 No. 88 4.1.2 Thermostats, switches, etc., in addition to conforming to the intent of the particular Specification covering that type of device, shall also be investigated with respect to their suitability for use in i

    26、ndustrial heating equipment. 4.1.3 Field Assembly. Industrial heating equipment which must be assembled on installation because of its size shall be designed so that a minimum of assembly is necessary and that in completing the assembly in the field, wiring and other electric parts are unlikely to b

    27、e damaged. 4.2 Enclosures For Live Parts 4.2.1 General. Enclosures for live parts shall be so formed and assembled that they will: (a) Have the strength and rigidity necessary to resist the abuses to which they may be subjected, without increasing the fire or accident hazard due to deformation of th

    28、e enclosure with resulting reduction of spacing, loosening or displace- ment of parts, etc.; (b) Afford protection against accidental contact with live parts, except in the case of recessed open-wire heating elements; and (c) Afford protection for electrical components against the dele- terious effe

    29、cts of excessive moisture, steam, chemicals, or other injurious material which may be encountered in operation of the equipment. 4.2.2 Material. Enclosures shall be of incombustible material and shall be judged with respect to size, shape, thickness of material, extent of framing and suitability for

    30、 the particular application. In general, enclosure material shall be of such thickness or so reinforced as to give stiffness and protection equivalent to that obtained if blank, flat steel not less than 0.0309 inch (No. 20 MSG) thick were used, except for glass, glass cloth, or similarly enclosed he

    31、ating elements (e.g. infra-red lamps) which are acceptable if they comply with Clause 4.10.3. 4.2.3 Openings in Enclosures 4.2.3.1 Openings for ventilation in external enclosures, unless suitably baffled, shall not he located directly below live parts, in order to prevent molten metal etc. from fall

    32、ing through to the support- ing surface. NOTE: Louvres may be accepted as baffled openings subject to special investigation. 4.2.3.2 Openings for ventilation and other purposes in external enclosures shall be constructed, located, or baffled so as to prevent a straight rod of circular cross-section,

    33、 3 inch in diameter, from being inserted to touch live parts. (See also Clause 4.2.3.7.) 4.2.3.3 The diameter of steel wires of a screen shall be not less than No. 18 Imperial wire gauge* (0.048 inch)* when the screen openings are square inch or less in area, and shall be not less than No. 14 Imperi

    34、al wire gauge* (0.080 inch)* for larger openings. *Or the nearest thickness thereto in some other gauge. - *Two per cent variation from the adopted standard of weight is permitted. INDUSTRIAL HEATING EQUIPMENT 9 4.2.3.4 The thickness of sheet steel employed for expanded metal and for perforated shee

    35、t metal shall be not less than 0.0418 inch (No. 18 MSG) thick when the mesh openings or perforations are 3 square inch or less in area, and shall be not less than 0.0797 inch (No. 13 MSG) thick for larger openings. 4.2.3.5 Openings in enclosures shall be located or protected so that chemicals or oth

    36、er injurious material are not liable to enter in the normal use of the equipment. 4.2.3.6. The necessity for providing openings for ventilation to prevent accumulation of vapours or gases shall be the subject of special investigation. 4.2.3.7 Openings that do not meet the requirements of Clauses 4.2

    37、.3.2 to 4.2.3.5 in enclosures of equipment isolated by their location shall be the subject of special investigation. 4.2.4 Safety Doors. If ovens are sufficiently large that persons may enter either to arrange the charge or to make repairs, the safety of such persons shall be provided for as follows

    38、: (a) A door that is manually closed shall be capable of being opened from the inside. (b) A door that is machine-operated shall be capable of being locked open (as by a key-operated switch) so that the door may not be inadvertently closed, unless a separate or integral manually-operated door comply

    39、ing with paragraph (a) is provided. 4.3 Protection against Rusting and Corrosion 4.3.1 Iron and steel parts shall be suitably protected against rust and corrosion as required by the latest issue of CSA Specification C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements. 4.3.2 The surfaces of metal parts

    40、 shall be protected, if necessary, against scaling, flaking, or other effects of corrosive action which might cause reduction in the dielectric strength of industrial heating equip- ment. 4.4 Mechanical Assembly 4.4.1 Parts used in the construction of industrial heating equip- ment shall have adequa

    41、te strength and shall be assembled and secured in position to ensure proper functioning under both normal and ab- normal conditions which may be met in service. 4.4.2 Switches, lampholders, thermostats, etc., shall be fastened securely and rigidly to maintain the required clearances. A suitable lock

    42、washer, properly applied, is acceptable as a means to prevent turning of a stem-mounted control. 4.4.3 The operating mechanism of switches or controls shall not subject electrical parts to undue strain. 4.4.4 Lamps shall be protected from damage, either by their location, or by the provision of a su

    43、itable guard. 10 CSA SPECIFICATION C22.2 No. 88 4.4.5 Screws or other fastenings of fragile insulating parts shall not be so tight as to result in cracking or breaking of such parts due to expansion and contraction, unless the insulating material is completely retained. Generally, such parts shall,

    44、be slightly loose or shall be pro- vided with cushioning material, e.g., asbestos washers. 4.4.6 Soldered connections shall be such that mechanical security will be ensured. If the nature and location of a soldered connection be such that loosening of the solder is liable to occur, and if such loose

    45、n- ing might result in grounding or short-circuiting of live parts or other unsafe condition, the connection shall be made mechanically secure before soldering. 4.4.7 The necessity of providing mechanical protection for moving parts such as pulleys, belts, gears, etc. shall be the subject of special

    46、 investigation which shall consider the speed and accessibility. (See also the latest issue of CSA Specification C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements.) 4.5 Supply Connections 4.5.1 Stationary Equipment 4.5.1.1 Stationary equipment shall have provision for the connection of armoured cabl

    47、e or conduit to the source of supply as required by the latest issue of CSA Specification C22.2 No. 0, Defini- tiOns and General Requirements. Terminal boxes may be attached to the outside, or the equipment enclosure may serve to enclose the supply connections provided it meets the conditions of Cla

    48、uses 4.5.1.2 to 4.5.1.5. 4.5.1.2 Knockouts or openings for conduit connection shall be located in flat surfaces in order that locknuts, etc., will lie flat. 4.5.1.3 Knockouts or openings for conduit connection shall have adequate diameter to accommodate the corresponding trade sizes of rigid or flex

    49、ible conduit, or cable connectors. 4.5.1.4 Component parts shall not be mounted on covers giving access to supply connections unless the covers are hinged. 4.5.1.5 The location of terminal boxes or compartments in which supply connections are made shall be such that connections will be readily accessible for inspection after the equipment is installed as intended, but not without opening a cov
