、 September 2005PrefaceThis is the third edition of CSA A123.3, Asphalt saturated organic roofing felt. It supersedes the second edition, published in 1998, and the first edition, Asphalt or Tar Saturated Organic Roofing Felt, published in 1979. It is one of a series of CSA Standards on bituminous ro

、ofing materials (CSA A123.1 to A123.5). The CSA A123 series of Standards are written in SI (metric) units, which are in conformance with CAN/CSA-Z234.1.CSA A123.3 covers asphalt saturated organic roofing felt for use in waterproofing and constructing built-up roofs, and as underlayments beneath stee

、p sloped roof coverings. It incorporates requirements previously contained in CSA A123.6-1953, Asphalt Saturated Roofing Felt for Use in Waterproofing and in Constructing Built-up Roofs; A123.8-1953, Coal-Tar Saturated Roofing Felt for Use in Waterproofing and in Constructing Built-up Roofs; and A12

、3.9-1953, Asphalt-Saturated Asbestos Felts for Use in Waterproofing and Constructing Built-up Roofs. It therefore replaces these three Standards.CSA A123.10-1953, Coal-Tar Saturated Asbestos Felts for Use in Waterproofing and Constructing Built-up Roofs, which previously dealt with this subject, has

、 been withdrawn since the product is no longer produced. This edition of CSA A123.3 eliminates the use of coal tar as a saturant and asbestos fibre as a felt material. This Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Bituminous Roofing Materials, under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steeri

、ng Committee on Building Materials and Products, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee.September 2005Notes: (1) Use of the singular does not exclude the plural (and vice versa) when the sense allows.(2) Although the intended primary application of this Standard is stated in its S

、cope, it is important to note that it remains the responsibility of the users of the Standard to judge its suitability for their particular purpose.(3) This publication was developed by consensus, which is defined by CSA Policy governing standardization Code of good practice for standardization as “

、substantial agreement. Consensus implies much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity”. It is consistent with this definition that a member may be included in the Technical Committee list and yet not be in full agreement with all clauses of this publication.(4) CSA Standards are s

、ubject to periodic review, and suggestions for their improvement will be referred to the appropriate committee.(5) All enquiries regarding this Standard, including requests for interpretation, should be addressed to Canadian Standards Association, 5060 Spectrum Way, Suite 100, Mississauga, Ontario,

、Canada L4W 5N6. Requests for interpretation should(a) define the problem, making reference to the specific clause, and, where appropriate, include an illustrative sketch;(b) provide an explanation of circumstances surrounding the actual field condition; and(c) be phrased where possible to permit a s

、pecific “yes” or “no” answer.Committee interpretations are processed in accordance with the CSA Directives and guidelines governingstandardization and are published in CSAs periodical Info Update, which is available on the CSA Web site atwww.csa.ca.
