    2、e auspices this National Standard of Canada has been developed is a government agency within Public Works and Government Services Canada. CGSB is engaged in the production of voluntary standards in a wide range of subject areas through the media of standards committees and the consensus process. The

    3、 standards committees are composed of representatives of relevant interests including producers, consumers and other users, retailers, governments, educational institutions, technical, professional and trade societies, and research and testing organizations. Any given standard is developed on the co

    4、nsensus of views expressed by such representatives. CGSB has been accredited by the Standards Council of Canada as a national standards-development organization. The standards that it develops and offers as National Standards of Canada conform to the criteria and procedures established for this purp

    5、ose by the Standards Council of Canada. In addition to standards it publishes as national standards, CGSB produces standards to meet particular needs, in response to requests from a variety of sources in both the public and private sectors. Both CGSB standards and CGSB national standards are develop

    6、ed in conformance with the policies described in the CGSB Policy Manual for the Development and Review of Standards. CGSB standards are subject to review and revision to ensure that they keep abreast of technological progress. Suggestions for their improvement, which are always welcome, should be br

    7、ought to the notice of the standards committees concerned. Changes to standards are issued either as separate amendment sheets or in new editions of standards. An up-to-date listing of CGSB standards, including details on latest issues and amendments, and ordering instructions, is found in the CGSB

    8、Catalogue, which is published annually and is available without charge upon request. An electronic version, CAT, is also available. More information is available about CGSB products and services at our Web site www.ongc-cgsb.gc.ca. Although the intended primary application of this standard is stated

    9、 in its Scope, it is important to note that it remains the responsibility of the users of the standard to judge its suitability for their particular purpose. Official bilingualism, multiculturalism and the communication needs

    34、of an outward-looking economy have nurtured a strong and innovative translation sector made up of in-house language service departments, translation firms and independent translators. A number of Canadian users of translation services can be described as having an appreciation of the challenges invo

    35、lved in providing good translation. Educational institutions play a key role in supporting the development of the Canadian translation industry with Canadian universities providing specialized education in translation, terminology and interpretation.Translators, terminologists and interpreters in th

    36、e various provinces and territories have formed associations to promote their professions, professional ethics and the protection of clients and consumers. They have worked together to create and promote the professional designation of certified translator. The provincial associations of British Col

    37、umbia, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick are now recognized by provincial statutes that give them the responsibility to protect the public. Canada is playing an important role in the development of international standards for translation services. In 2006 the International Organization for Standardi

    38、zation (ISO) initiated the development of international standards for translation services under ISO technical committee ISO/TC 37, Terminology and other language and content resources. Canada is both a participating member and the convener of the Working Group developing the standards. Canadian inp

    39、ut is co-ordinated through the Canadian Advisory Committee (CAC/ISO/TC 37), which is administered by the Standards Council of Canada.     41、oviders (TSP). This standard is applicable to organizations as well as individuals providing the translation services described herein. This document was prepared with the intent to harmonize where possible with the provisions of EN 15038, Translation Services.1Variances in wording and content with

    42、EN 15038 reflect the Canadian perspective. Conformity assessment and TSP certification based on this standard are envisaged. With the recent development of national and regional standards for translation services, many translation service providers, nationally and internationally, are now in the pro

    45、process requirements for the provision of translation services by a translation service provider (TSP).1.2 This standard does not apply to interpreting or terminology services or to the professional designation of individuals as certified translators.2. DEFINITIONSThe following definitions apply in

    46、this standard:2.1 Additional Services Services provided by a TSP in addition to translation services.2.2 Client An individual or organization contracting with a TSP.2.3 Competence Demonstrated knowledge and ability to do the tasks.2.4 Computer-Assisted Translation Translation in which a variety of c

    47、omputer programs (tools) are used to support the task of human translation.2.5 Correction Action to eliminate a detected non-conformity.2.6 Corrective Action Action to eliminate the cause of a detected non-conformity or other undesirable situation. 2.7 Document Information and its supporting medium.
