2、: “The European Conference of Posts and Telecommunications Administrations, Considering - that the use of more complex terminals may involve the use of the hands for operations other than those of - that there is a growing demand for teleconferencing where hands-free operation functions are of great
3、 value; - that hands-free operation in lots of applications leads to higher effectiveness of work, creates more comfort to - that hands-free operation minimizes the risk of physical discomfort, which can be the result if handset is used - that hands-free operation makes it possible for handicapped p
4、eople to communicate over the telephone network; - that the new micro-technology will stimulate the provision of better and cheaper terminal equipments, and telecommunications; the user and may provide safer operation; frequently; O therefore also stimulate users demand. Recommends that hands-free o
5、peration terminals including terminals with loudspeaking function should be developed on the basis of the following operational requirements. 1. INTRODUCTION The operational requirements on terminal equipment concerning “hands-free operation”, in this document relate to telephone equipment to be att
6、ached to Administrations networks. The operational requirements are mainly restricted to the call phase. Special needs and requirements for the disabled are not included. The basic requirements should as far as possible include handicap aspects. 2. FUNCTION CATEGORIZATION Q Hands-free operation can
7、be divided into the following sub-groups of functions: 1 Head set function. 2 Loudspeaking function. 3 One-way loudspeaking function. 3. HEAD SET FUNCTION Definition: A head set is used instead of or as an alternative to a hand set and is worn on the head or on one ear and has both earphone and micr
8、ophone units. The head set function can be useful in the following situations: - to get both hands free when - operating other terminal equipment for data, etc., - using typewriter, making notes by hand, etc., - searching for information in papers, etc., - working in information desks, etc.; - to in
9、crease the physical comfort of people using the telephone frequently; for the handicapped people who cannot hold a hand set. Edition of June 15, 1986 TfSF 35 E Page 2 The following requirements can be relevant: - it should be possible to use a head set and a hand set alternatively in the same termin
10、al; - during a call it should be possible to change between head set and hand set functions; - an adjustable earphone volume should be included; - a microphone switch to make it possible to disconnect the outgoing speech should be included (this function is for secrecy and to make it possible to lis
11、ten in noisy rooms). In the default position e.g. when accepting or starting a call the microphone switch should be in the on position; - the head set should be connected to the terminal with a plug and socket in such a way that disconnection and reconnection should be possible during a call; - it c
12、ould be useful to have a quick disconnector on the cord to allow the operator to move to and fro without taking off the head set; - it could also be useful to have a clip on the cord to be ked to the operators clothes. This may prevent damage if the operator moves away quickly; - it should be possib
13、le to use the head sets earphone on either the left of right-hand ear and in some applications dual earphones may be desired; - the head set should be comfortable to wear, have low weight and should be simple to put on and take off; - it should rest securely on the head and should not change positio
14、n when the head or body is moved normally; - if the head set has a head band, it should be easy to adjust the band; - there should be no problems using the head set for operators wearing spectacles; - the cord should be spiralized to a certain length nearest to the plug; - protection against acousti
15、c shock must be guaranteed; - parts touching the skin must not contain allergy developing or skin irritating components; - the design should be robust. 4. LOUDSPEAKING FUNCTION Definition: The loudspeaking function is used for totally hands-free operation during the call phase thanks to a built-in l
16、oudspeaker and microphone. The loudspeaking function can be useful in the following situations : - to get both hands free when - operating other terminal equipment for data, etc., - making notes by hand, etc, - searching for information in papers, etc., - making long calls comfortable; - for telepho
17、ne conferencing ; - when used as a waiting loudspeaker; - waiting for answer from the called number, - listening on one way information (phone lectures, etc.), - during set up of call phase; - to increase the physical comfort of people using the telephone frequently; - for handicapped people who can
18、not hold a hand set. The following requirements can be relevant: - it should be possible to use the loudspeaking function and the hand set alternatively in the same terminal - during a call it should be possible to change between the loudspeaking function and the hand set; - if the loudspeaking func
19、tion is integrated with the telephone, it should be possible to set up the call when - if, however, the loudspeaking function is designed as a separate device, set up of the call may be accepted - an adjustable loudspeaker volume should be included; - a microphone switch-lockable during a call-to ma
20、ke it possible to disconnect the outgoing speech should - a satisfactory indication should be included to secure disconnection of the loudspeaking functions of the (in some applications loudspeaking function only can be of interest); the loudspeaker is connected to the line; before the loudspeaker i

23、 should be required to give an acceptable speech - if possible, the loudspeaking function should not be interrupted in a room of noise of 60 dB(A); - if possible, a loudspeaking call should not necessarily need a call discipline, i.e. it should be possible to talk desired) ; quality; in full duplex.
24、 5. ONE WAY LOUDSPEAKING FUNCTION Definition: One was loudspeaking function is used only for loudspeaking listening and when talking the hand set must be used. One way loudspeaking function can be useful in the following situations: - as parallel loudspeaker, i.e. one or more persons listen to the c
25、all; - as a waiting loudspeaker when - waiting for answer from the called number, - listening on one way information (phone lectures, etc); The following requirements can be relevant: - it should be possible to switch the loudspeaker on/off; - if the loudspeaker is integrated with the telephone, it
26、should be possible to set up the call when the loudspeaker - an adjustable loudspeaker volume should be included; - the reliability requirements should be in line with those set for the basic telephone equipments and therefore - the connection of external loudspeakers should be possible in some applications. is connected to the line; the power feeding should be preferably telephone line based; Edition of June 15, 1986
