、 3 O. INTRODUCTION The concept and structure of Functional Standard for information systems interconnection are laid down in the CEN/CENELEC/CEPT Memorandum M-IT-O 1. The purpose of a Functional Standard is to recommend when and how certain information technology standards should be used. This Funct

、ional Standard specifies telecommunication function T/42X as dened in the CEN/CENELEC/CEPT Memorandum M-IT-02. SCOPE AND FIELD OF APPLICATION This Functional Standard defines: - the provision of the OS1 Connection-mode Transport Service between an End System (“The Reference End System”) attached to

、a Permanent or Switched Data Circuit, and another End System (“The Compatible End System”) which is attached to the same Data Circuit, or indirectly accessible through the provided Network Service; - the provision of the OS1 Connection-mode Network Service between the Reference End System and the Co

、mpatible End System, and of a Connection-oriented subnetwork access service over the Data Circuit. This Functional Standard specifies a set of protocols to provide the function defined above. It does not specify total End System capability. The requirements placed on an End System in this Functional

、 Standard are solely those necessary for operation of the protocol set specified. Note 1. CSDN may also be used to access a Packet Switched Data Network (PSDN) in which case the Functional Standards T/31 (permanent case) and T/32X will apply. Note 2. CSDN may be used for communication between telema

、tic terminals as defined in Recommendation T.70, in this case Functional Standard T/41 will apply. 1. 2. 26、 be used on a specific network, a non-exhaustive list of contact points from which such information can be obtained is given in Annex 1 to this document. DEFINITIONS Digital Data Circuit In this Functional Standard, a Digital Data Circuit is provided through a CSDN or through a concatenation of CSDN

、s, and may be switched or permanent. Note. Some ISDNs or pre-ISDNs provide circuit switched services through an X.21 interface. Those services are equivalent to those provided by a CSDN and this Functional Standard is consequently applicable in this case. End System The term End System is taken from

、 the OS Reference Model terminology and is used to refer to the functionality of the communicating system in an abstract form, independent of the physical realisation. An End System in real world terminology may, therefore, as an example, be either a simple self-contained system or a group of interc

、onnected main frame computers acting as a whole. All End Systems contain a Transport Layer entity function. DTE The terin Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) is used by CCITT to define the users equipment that is con- nected to a Public Data Network (PDN), or a modem in the Public Switched Telephone Netwo

、rk (PSTN) case. Note. In the general case a DTE does not necessarily contain a Transport Layer entity function. Since this Functional Standard is only concerned with equipment that does contain Transport Layer entities, both terms will be used synonymously. Note. This is not intended to imply any re

、striction on the use of NSAP addresses and their relationship to the subnetwork addresses. Functional Standard Option Standards and Recommendations support a lot of options. In a Functional Standard based on these Standards and Recommendations such an option may be: - precluded, because it may limit

、 the interworking capabilities; - out of the scope, but it does not limit the interworking capabilities; - kept as an option, in this case it is called a Functional Standard Option and it is clearly referenced; or - supported, which means that its implementation is required. A Functional Standard Op

、tion which cannot operate with a mandatory mechanism OS the Functional Standard, or two or more Functional Standard Options which cannot operate simultaneously with each other, may be implemented in an End System, but in such cases, a system parameter shall be used to select and indicate the mechani

Scenario description The Reference End System communicates with the Compatible End System through a Digital Data Circuit and eventually intermediate system(s) (e.g. Relay Function, LAN .). This Digital Data Circuit is provided through a CSDN or through a concatenation of CSDNs. The Digit

、al Data Circuit is permanent if a leased circuit of a CSDN is used. In this case, Functional Standard T/421 applies. The Digital Data Circuit is switched if a switched circuit of a CSDN is used. In this case, Functional Standard T/422 applies. TI42X Tlnnn (X: 1 =Permanent Digital Data Circuit; 2=Swi
