    2、y within Public Services and Procurement Canada. CGSB is engaged in the production of voluntary standards in a wide range of subject areas through the media of standards committees and the consensus process. The standards committees are composed of representatives of relevant interests including pro

    3、ducers, consumers and other users, retailers, governments, educational institutions, technical, professional and trade societies, and research and testing organizations. Any given standard is developed on the consensus of views expressed by such representatives.CGSB has been accredited by the Standa

    4、rds Council of Canada as a national standards-development organization. The standards that it develops and offers as National Standards of Canada conform to the criteria and procedures established for this purpose by the Standards Council of Canada. In addition to standards it publishes as National

    5、Standards of Canada, CGSB produces standards to meet particular needs, in response to requests from a variety of sources in both the public and private sectors. Both CGSB standards and CGSB national standards are developed in conformance with the policies described in the CGSB Policy and Procedures

    6、Manual for the Development and Maintenance of Standards.CGSB standards are subject to review and revision to ensure that they keep abreast of technological progress. CGSB will initiate the review of this standard within five years of the date of publication. Suggestions for their improvement, which

    7、are always welcome, should be brought to the notice of the standards committees concerned. Changes to standards are issued either as separate amendment sheets or in new editions of standards.An up-to-date listing of CGSB standards, including details on latest issues and amendments, and ordering inst

DescriptionOrganic production is a holistic system designed to optimize the productivity and fitness of diverse

    34、 communities within the agro-ecosystem, including soil organisms, plants, livestock and people. The principal goal of organic production is to develop operations that are sustainable and harmonious with the environment.CAN/CGSB-32.310, Organic Production Systems General Principles and Management Sta

    35、ndards, describes the principles and management standard of organic production systems.CAN/CGSB-32.311, Organic Production Systems Permitted Substances Lists, provides lists of substances that are allowed for use in organic production systems.As is the case for all products sold in Canada, organic i

    36、nputssuch as, but not limited to, fertilizers, feed supplements, pesticides, soil amendments, veterinary treatments, processing additives or aids, sanitizing and cleaning materialand products derived from organic agriculture, such as, but not limited to, feed and food, should comply with all applica

    37、ble regulatory requirements.II. General principles of organic productionOrganic Agriculture is based on the following general principles1,2:Principle of health Organic agriculture should sustain and enhance the health of soil, plants, animals, humans and the planet as one and indivisible.Principle o

    38、f ecology Organic agriculture should be based on living ecological systems and cycles, work with them, emulate them and help sustain them.Principle of fairness Organic agriculture should build on relationships that ensure fairness with regard to the common environment and life opportunities. Princip

    39、le of care Organic agriculture should be managed in a precautionary and responsible manner to protect the health and well-being of current and future generations and the environment.III. Organic practicesNeither this standard3nor organic products produced in accordance with this standard represent s

    40、pecific claims about the healthiness, safety and nutrition of such organic products.Management methods are carefully selected in order to restore and then sustain ecological stability within the operation and the surrounding environment. Soil fertility is maintained and enhanced by promoting optimal

    41、 biological activity within the soil and conservation of soil resources. Weeds, pests and diseases are managed using biological and mechanical control methods, and cultural practices that include minimized tillage. Crop selection and rotation are important for managing nutrient cycling, recycling of

These practices strive to minimize stress, promote good health and prevent disease.Organic produc

    45、ts are produced and processed under a system that strives to preserve the integrity of the principles in this standard.Organic practices and this standard cannot assure that organic products are entirely free of residues of substances prohibited by this standard and of other contaminants, since expo

    46、sure to such compounds from the atmosphere, soil, ground water and other sources may be beyond the control of the operator. The practices permitted by this standard are designed to ensure the least possible residues at the lowest possible levels. In the development of the standard, it was recognized

    47、 that differences between Canadas agricultural regions require varying practices to meet production needs.This standard is intended for certification and regulation to prevent deceptive practices in the marketplace. The certification process assesses operational compliance. Certification is granted
