、t the modified product meets all the requirements of the standard.4.2 Classification and grades“O” rings shall be supplied in three nominal hardness grades: Grade 60; Grade 70; Grade 80.“O” rings manufactured to nominal hardness grades other than those specified shall, with the exception of hardness

、, meet all the requirements of this specification specified for the grade embracing the nominal hardness value. Tolerances, if required tighter than those specified within this specification, shall not be tighter than 3.NOTE For example, where a hardness of 65 is specified, the requirements of Grade

、 70 apply as the value of 65 lies within the 61 to 73 hardness range of Grade 70.If a hardness value is so specified by a purchaser, the tolerance shall be taken as +39unless a tighter tolerance is agreed between the purchaser and manufacturer.5 Properties“O” rings manufactured from material conform

、ing to the relevant grade of BS F 153 shall meet the requirements specified within the following Table 1 and Table 2.The first lot of finished rings from a batch of material mix shall be fully tested in accordance with Table 1 and Table 2.Samples from each subsequent lot of finished rings from a bat

、ch of material mix shall be tested in accordance with line numbers 1 and 15 of Table 1. 31、t pieces.6.4.2 Thickness gaugesThe thickness of the test piece shall be determined using one of the following measuring instruments.a) An electronic thickness comparator firmly held in a rigid stand over a flat base of not less than 50 mm in any direction, and having a moving contact member with a f

The force exerted by the moving contact member shall be (0.85 0.03) N.b) A dial gauge firmly held in a rigid stand above a flat base of not less than 50 mm in any direction, and having a moving contact member with a flat circular contact area of dia

The force exerted by the moving contact member shall be (0.85 0.03) N.c) A precision micrometer having parallel anvils of between 2 mm and 6.5 mm d

、iameter used as a “go/no go” gauge, the distance between the anvils being set such that the test piece when inserted between the anvils gives barely perceptible friction. This method, whilst capable of being used to the required degree of accuracy, does require some operator experience to give consi

(Note that this applies to the instruments only, not to their capability of measuring “O” ring cross-sections.) BSI 2006 5BS F 159:20066.4.3 Test piecesIn the case of sealing rings having an internal

、 diameter of 13 mm or greater, the test piece shall consist of a section approximately 25 mm in length cleanly cut from a ring by straight cuts across the cord of the ring. In the case of sealing rings having an internal diameter of less than 13 mm, the test piece shall be a whole ring vented by a s

、ingle cut through the cord section. The variation in cord diameter along the length of the test piece shall not exceed 2% of the nominal cord diameter.Three test pieces shall be used for each determination.6.4.4 Measurement of test piecesThe cord diameter of each test piece shall be measured at a ma

、rked point approximately midway along its length, the measurement being made across the cord diameter at right angles to the plane of the ring (designated “W” in BS M 48). If an instrument with a moving contact member is used, the axis of movement shall be vertical and in line with the dimension bei

、ng measured. The measurement shall be taken as the original test piece thickness (tc). The thickness of the test piece after recovery (tr) shall be measured in a similar manner at the same point. The ink or other agent used for marking shall have no deleterious effect on the rubber and shall be of con

、trasting colour to that of the rubber. It shall be so applied that it does not come into contact with the plates when the “O” rings are under compression.6.4.5 SpacersThe spacer(s) shall be chosen so the each test piece shall be compressed to a value (ts) of (75 2)% of its original thickness. The he

、ight of the spacers shall be measured to an accuracy of 0.01 mm.Where more than one spacer is used in the same test apparatus space, they shall not vary in thickness by more than 0.01 mm.Test pieces shall not be lubricated. The duration of the compression period shall be 2420h at (150 2) C.NOTE At th
