、 standard specifies the minimum requirements for calibration tapes for making adjustment and comparative assessments of the reproducing performance of both professional and domestic magnetic tape recording/reproducing equipment. This standard applies to both lubricated and non-lubricated tapes, reco

、rded across specified parts or the full width of the tape. 2 Object The object of this standard is to specify the contents, the format and the tolerances of calibration tapes sothat measurements made on any recording/reproducing equipment using tapes manufactured in accordance with the requirements

、of this standard shall be directly comparable. 3 General requirements Each standard calibration tape shall have at least the following sections: 1) reference level; 2) azimuth; 3) amplitude/frequency response. Each section shall be recorded at a recording angle of90 1, relative to the edge of the ta

、pe. Over the frequency range used, all of the octave frequencies of the preferred ISO/R266 frequencies, relative to1000Hz, shall be used. Additional frequencies shall be used from the one-third octave. If further frequencies are required, one-sixth octave shall be applied. Each section shall be anno

、unced and the official IEClanguages are preferred. At the beginning of the tape, the standard tape speed to which the calibration refers, the characteristic to which the tape has been recordedand the date of recording shall be announced, forinstance “IEC calibration tape for38,1cm/s(15in/s) recorded

、 to a354s time constant in accordance with IEC Publication94, first edition”. An announcement at the beginning of each section shall specify the content of that section; for the reference level section, the short-circuit flux per unit track width; and for the other sections, the short-circuit flux l

、1999 5 Annex A List of suppliers of calibration tapes of width3.81mm for use at a speed of4.76cm/s Over the last few years it has become evident that, due to differences in the primary measurement of tape flux and the change in performance of replay heads based on new technology, calibration tapes from different sources have led to divergent results when played on any one particular player. Steps have been taken to unify the methods of measurement and these steps have resulted in a unified calibration tape which conforms to the estab
