    8、This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Personal Safety Equipment Standards Policy Committee and is the English language version of EN510:1993 Specification for protective clothing for use where there is a risk of entanglement with moving parts, published by the European C

    9、ommittee for Standardization (CEN). This British Standard covers the particular requirements for machinery attendants coveralls previously specified in section3 of BS5426:1987. EN 510 was produced as a result of international discussions in which the UnitedKingdom took an active part. A British Stan

    21、bourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UnitedKingdom.EN 510:1993 BSI 07-1999 3 0 Introduction This standard applies to specific clothing to be worn when the risk of entanglement cannot be effectively controlled by physically safeguarding moving parts of machines. 1 Scope T

    22、his standard specifies the properties of protective clothing that minimize the risk of its entanglement or drawing-in by moving parts when the wearer is working at or near hazardous moving machines or devices. This standard does not include protective clothing against injuries by special moving mach

    23、ine parts for which specific standards exist, e.g.protective clothing for users of chainsaws. 2 Normative references This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and t

    24、he publications are listed hereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this European Standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latest edition of the publication referred to applies. prEN

    25、 340:1992, Protective clothing General requirements. 3 Requirements 3.1 Design NOTEThe requirements inclause 3.1 are based on the principles to obtain a) a covering of any other garment; and b) a close fit; and c) a smooth outer surface of the clothing. 3.1.1 Basic requirements The clothing shall co

    26、nsist of: a) waist jacket (see3.1.2) with bib and brace overall (see3.1.3); or b) waist jacket with sleeveless coverall (see3.1.4); or see c) coverall with sleeves (see3.1.4). Examples of possible design are shown inFigure 1. The garment shall be fastened by means having no exposed loose ends. The f

    27、astening elements shall be concealed. Folds caused by the fastening elements shall lie on the inner side of the garment. Buttonholes, buttons, press fasteners, slide fasteners, buckles or other means of closure shall not be chemically or mechanically damaged when being inspected according to4.2. But

    28、tonholes, buttons, press fasteners, slide fasteners, buckles or other means of closure made of metal shall be rustproof and show no signs of rust after being inspected according to4.2. Seams shall be lapped towards the inside. NOTEQuick release fastening elements provided should enable rapid removal

    29、 of the garment in an emergency. Figure 1 Examples of possible designEN 510:1993 4 BSI 07-1999 3.1.2 Waist jacket The waist jacket shall either have a stand-up collar or a stitched down laid-on collar or be collarless. The jacket shall be closable up to the collar or neck band. There shall be no ext

    30、ernal pockets. Any inside pocket shall not be provided with pocket openings on the outside and shall only be accessible from inside the jacket. The back and the front shall have no formed folds. The cuff shall be adjustable to give a close fit. The bottom edge of the waist jacket shall be adjustable

    31、 to achieve close fitting. 3.1.3 Bib and brace overall The bib and brace overall shall have no external pockets. Any inside pocket on the bib shall be closable. If a side opening is required it shall be closable along the whole length of the side opening (e.g.touch-and-close fastener). The brace sha

    32、ll be sewn on the back and the effective length of the brace shall be adjustable. The buckles required for adjustment shall be sewn on the bib; they shall be so designed that the ends of the braces hang on the inner side of the bib. The braces shall be of extensible material. The trouser bottoms sha

    33、ll be adjustable to give a close fit. 3.1.4 Coverall with or without sleeves The features as specified in 3.1.2 and3.1.3 shall equally apply to coveralls. The width of the waist shall be adjustable by internal means. Sleeveless coveralls shall have an extensible back. 3.2 Sizes The size designation

    34、shall be according to clause6 of prEN340:1992. 3.3 Dimensional change Change in dimensions of material shall not exceed3% in either length or width when tested as described in4.1. 4 Testing 4.1 Dimensional change The garment shall be tested according to clause5.4 of prEN340:1992. 4.2 Effectiveness o

    35、f the closing elements The garment with the closing elements shall be cleaned five times according to clause5.3 of prEN340:1992. After cleaning the closing elements shall be inspected to determine whether they a) have been chemically or mechanically damaged; or b) show any signs of rust. 5 Marking T

    36、he garment shall be marked in accordance with clause7 of prEN340:1992. Additionally the pictogram as in Figure 2 shall be used. 6 Information The information note from the manufacturer with the instructions for use shall comply with clause8 of prEN340:1992. The instructions for use shall provide a w

    37、arning. The safety functions are only fulfilled when the garments referred to in this standard are of close fit and properly fastened. Both pieces of a two-piece garment shall be worn together. The safety functions are only fulfilled when no gaps appear between the parts of a two-piece garment durin

    38、g work movements. A sleeveless coverall may be worn alone, when all the other garments, worn below, are covered.
