18、ion Tight fitting spigots may be used with casing flanges made of metallic materials to eliminate the need for close fitted bolts for radial location. 1 Scope This standard specifies the dimensions and fit selection of tight fitting spigots for locating casings and other major components for aerospa
19、ce applications. 2 Design The flanges shall be sufficiently flexible to accommodate the tight fitting spigot, together with differential strain when present, without permanent distortion. Three or more equally spaced jacking screw locations, or other features, shall be provided so that the flanges c
20、an readily be dismantled. Where jacking screws are to be used to bear onto light alloy faces, protection for the light alloy shall be provided to avoid damage. Two forms of spigot joints are shown inFigure 1 andFigure 2: external and internal. Advantages for the external spigot: it prevents lever be
21、ing used to separate; it stiffens the flange at the periphery; it can reduce the pitch circle diameter of the bolts thus improving the “heeling” factor. Advantages for internal spigot: it is less likely to be shop damaged and can be more easily protected; under pressure the use of an interference fi
22、t (seeTable 1) maintains a better seal; the flanges may be scalloped and are therefore lighter.
